Trossard is a good addition. None of the sources seem to report a fee though. Hopefully not too high considering both parties seem happy to cut ties.
In his prime and PL proven. If we get him for no more than 20mil I'd say it's solid business.

Rumours says first bid is 20m and Brighton wants 26/30 so should be cheap enough between those values.

When you have young wingers from Ukrainian league going for 90mil, 20mil is a bargain for a good player proven in EPL. He's 28 - a good age to add some experience to us and can play anywhere in the front 3. Is two-footed. Very good option off the bench and/or can play in the cup games. Apparently he fell out with De Zerbi because he got a too big for his boots, wanted to go to a bigger club. If true, this will be his last chance and he'll want to prove himself.
What does this mean for Smith Rowe. Seems a similar type

Exactly right, Arteta wants versatile players who can play anywhere in the front 3. Trossard is as versatile as you can probably get and scores too (has 7 goals this season so far). If our attacking options off the bench for the rest of the season are Trossard, Smith Rowe, Vieira and eventually Jesus (assuming he doesn't instantly displace Nketiah), I'd be pretty happy.
it’s an ok stop gap solution but I wouldn’t be happy with the same selection next season. Unless Trossard is a revelation I’d like to see a pacy and direct winger that would provide serious competition to Saka and Martinelli. This is alongside someone like Declan Rice who id imagine we will pursue this summer.
What about Pepe when he returns from loan? Reckon he'd be decent backup?
We tried for the exciting signing for the long term but it didn't work out. There aren't really too many other options in Jan. Arteta knows he needs reinforcements if we are to really push for the title. I don't think we'd be buying in Jan if we weren't in the position we're in, and I definitely don't think they'd have been willing to break the bank for Mudryk if we weren't top.

ESR can play on the left and also rotate with Odegaard. He will have plently of game time in our thin squad.

Trossard is the most Arsenal player I can imagine. Wenger would have bought him years ago.

20M for a player who is 27 with only 6 months left in his contract, vs a 21 yr old exciting talent 70m euro/62m pound + add on. I really don't know.

He just came back after 4 month groin injury. He has a very high ceiling but unfortunately injury prone. He might never reach his true potential.
27 million was the price in the end, great business from us, as like you say he would leave for free in the summer.
