Lassana Diarra

Diarra is a similar type of player to Makelelle & his performances against Barca last year i was very impressed with, but I think Fergie doesnt want him because of his attitude - maybe he got the low-down from Patrice. Also, maybe we dont want to play that sort of way - you dont need to be big & strong to win a ball in mid-field anymore as we found out against Barca - its all about retaining possession!

He'll be a good signing for Spurs, but I would of thought Sandro offers the same thing. They still need a proper striker. They were linked with Rossi for awhile and of course the Ade link is still there.

They'll get Adebayor - 'Arry has been goving it large about what a good player he is, something muct be in the offing.

Could be some decent business done by Spurs if they can hold onto Modric.

I don't know why they need Diarra. I really don't.

It's less a question of "need" and more a question of taking the opportunity that's arisen to acquire an upgrade on Palacios (he is likely to be gone).

And since Diarra's transfer fee seems like it may be only a small amount more than the likely fee to be gained from sellng Palacios, why wouldn't Spurs do the deal?

You forget to factor in the wages actually. Diarra's wages will be higher than Palacios. Central midfield is one area where Spurs are quite strong actually. Still surprising to see that you aren't getting a center back signing.

Disagree Kouroux. I think he is a good footballer, a good athlete,he has some great skills and is very disciplined sitting in front of the back four. He stood out against barca in last year's champ semi and in several other real games i saw on sky last year. With prem experience he is a snip at 9mill, i would have him in utd as we've lost hargreaves and dont really have an aggressive/combative ball winner.

Would however agree he would be great for spurs.

He has also been poor in several classicos, a real liability with all the repetitive fouling. However the main reason why I don't want him at United is his attitude, he thinks his game time should be given to him and not properly earned.

Pity with Palacios. He came in and looked like a real deal. Then that business with his dad I think it was, crippled him mentally.

I think it was his brother who got kidnapped, then shot.

Apparently Spurs made another personal terms offer to Lass, but he turned them down.
Mourinho says if he wants to stay, he can and he'll play.

On the other hand Mou repeated that if Leon, Gago and Drenthe don't go they won't be playing. With that in mind then -
Pedro Leon - loan to Getafe should go through officially tomorrow.
Gago - various rumours, but currently they're talking about a loan to Roma
Drenthe - no obvious buyer or borrower

Didn't Drrenthe act the cock while on loan last season? I guess that's putting potential suitors off?

Drenthe made a great start and became a fan favourite.
A few late nights out in town were politely ignored as he was playing well.

Hercules were late paying their players (late is normal in La Liga - they were actually paying them) and he came back late from the Christmas break in protest. He asked Madrid to take him back - they wouldn't - and he ended up being accused of skipping training sessions etc once he did go back to work at Hercules. A real shame because he did look like he was delivering on his early potential.

His transfer from Feyenoord to Real Madrid wasn't too friendly either.

A bit stroppy? Certainly he's not shown any interest in talking to the clubs that expressed an interest in him.

Do most of the caftards still feel he isn't good enough for Manchester United? I think he is exactly what we need. Not exactly the creative source we need, but he sure sort out our defensive frailities. Superb defensive midfielder, and one of the many genres of midfielders we need when facing different opposition.

We play 4-4-2 a lot. I don't think he is the ideal player to play next to either Clevereley or Anderson. In a 4-3-3, he will fit in very nicely. Will he be happy on the bench? I don't think he will.

He'l be far too limited a player to play in a 2 man midfield. that requires a more rounded player. in a 3 man midfield, he'd be very good but we already have carrick who imo is perfectly suited to playing the deepest mid in a 3 man CM

He's the kind if player that fits into Jose's systems with ease, he has a purpose and that's to break up play and no more and he does it fairly well. Not our cup of tea we need someone with a little bit more dynamic to their game as they will either cover for Carrick or partner him and occasionally have to push forward a little.

Hasn't played much over the year. I think he could be a useful squad player if available for 5-10 million.

He's better than that. Lass is a fantastic player who has had a very strange career. I think he's in the top 10 CM's in the world, yet he's seen as a squad player by most. I think it's because he's never really been a good fit for any of the clubs he's joined. Also having to retire from international football hasn't helped his profile. He needs to sign for a big club that actually need a CM player. In the past he's never done that.

He's got so much more to his game than he's credited for. He's fast, he's aggressive, he's got incredible balance, is a brilliant dribbler and his passing is way better than people think. In my opinion he'd be a started in every team in the Prem.

It's a crazy world when Porto want £30 million for Moutinho, yet we could buy Lass for £5 million. M'Vila is a slow version, without the dribbling and low centre of gravity and we'd have to pay around £15 million for him.

For some reason he isn't that highly rated, but I can't understand why any of our fans wouldn't want a player with the pace, tenacity, skill and determination this guy has in our team:

He has Modric and Khedira ahead of him in the pecking order. He could be a key player for us and could also be put in defense during an injury crisis. Him playing would allow Kagawa or Rooney to play the attacking AM role in 4-3-3. A defensive juggernaut is definitely needed in CL games as we noticed against Bilbao.

He's incredibly inconsistent for a midfielder. He can swing straight from MOTM in one game to a liability in the next, and when he's a liability he can't pass, can't tackle, can't play in position - and then from all accounts he sulks when he gets dropped.

The assumption is that he'll sit out the last year on his contract to get a big signing on fee next year. If he doesn't do that, then it probably means someone's got to offer him a big signing on fee / wage packet now.
