La Liga 2018/19

Righly so. We've been having this debate of who will cover for Suarez now that Munir is out and throwing names around, last has been playing Vidal as the 9.

This shouldn't be a problem when we can field Messi as a false 9 with Cou and Dembele on the wings. No one mentions that on the press so something smells rotten at the club regarding Coutinho.
Don't you think that It's simply a problem of poor performances?
When I watch him I can't forget the 160m€(let's say 120+40 to make it softer).
I think he's a 75 million player who has been unable to find his place.
He has a lot of quality but I do not think I've seen it very often with ease, playing 100%.
I do not imagine in two or three years Coutinho as a reference worldwide, or the fan satisfied with what was paid.
It must be for the anniversary of the signing that there are many articles, in this it names a statistic. His worse numbers "in chances created by game" in the last eight years

Please, don't remind me of this.

Just what we need, a fragile guy, who can't finish in front of the goal, needs space to shine and who's best skill is heading the ball... playing for a team that barely ever puts a decent cross at the right height.
 I think he will go to Atlético.

Today Dembele will be played as #9. Who knows, maybe this works out and he can replace Suarez in the long run, with Coutinho on his left and Messi behind him. Something to further experiment with.

Alena also given minutes today. Hopefully we also see Puig on the field today.

Well it's true he hasn't really performed so far this season, but that's since we switched back to the 433 and the way we play imo, he couldn't forget how to play proper football, he was Brazil's best player in the WC and our 2nd best player from January to May past season.

I think our 433 hurts him a lot, Messi comes centrally so Coutinho has less touches, if we also play Arthur this also decreases his role as a LW, and half our chances probably come from openings to Alba at the depth, or Suarez/Leo forcing their way through the middle, in any of those cases Coutinho becomes redundant, he doesn't add depth, he can't really link up with Alba (no one really could, not even Neymar) and we lacking wingers only hurts his cut inside movement. Our assymetric style doesn't even benefit him to open to the right wing, Messi won't be there and Rakitic/Sergi/Semedo are more defensive minded than Alba.

He would work out if we could finally create some good football with Coutinho, Messi, Dembele, Arthur and Rakitic upfront, but the way we space with a "false right winger", and how even Suarez tends to be around our LW area, he's just saddled into a couple meters around him, it's going to be hard for him to bounce back if Valverde doesn't come with a plan to involve him a little more, because playing him as a CM won't work with his workrate.

 I think he will go to Atlético.

Well, Munir seems linked to Atletico too, I don't get what's happening with Spanish strikers, Morata still has credit, Munir is an objective for Atleti/Sevilla, Valencia rejected 60M for Rodrigo this summer (wonder what they were thinking) and meanwhile Alcacer was the discarded one, when he always looked better than everyone else with Valencia/Spain but got even behind Munir in our priority list.

Next thing we know at this rate, De Tomas might be the chosen one above Kane for Florentino

I don't even know who 3 of the 4 Barcelona's defenders are.

Miranda, Brandariz, Murillo... wtf

Should have at least started Lenglet along side Murillo who is playing his first game at Barcelona. Miranda is 18 and Chumi is 19. I didnt expect anything different from this backline at this point. Just a great game for them to experience a good mid table La Liga team who are only 2 points away from European qualification. Let them sweat and make some mistakes here and there. We have the return leg where we can finish them with our A squad.

Could have been 2-2 or even more at this point. Really entertaining game so far. Alena is looking good, Dembele looks sharper then ever, Coutinho is in awful form: he doesnt have the creativity some have hoped. Vidal will probably get a red in the second half - he is just so agressive in his defending.

That's the Murillo that was playing for Inter??? When the hell did that happen?

He came from Valencia, I think. Not sure where he was before that. But he was the one responsible for Ronaldo's infamous red card for "pulling his hair" in Juve's CL opening round. I guess it all adds up why he would go to Barca/Barca would sign him.:)

good analysis on Coutinho. As you say it seems redundant. I personally would sell him at a loss, with or without Rabiot, but who knows, the season is very long and he might take a step forward.
On the strikers ... in Barcelona nobody has a future while Suárez is there, or rather while Messi and Suárez form a duo inside and outside the field.
Poor Morata, two years ago he lived so happily and now he is dragging himself, even to our rivals

its the backup of the backup. The shocking thing is that their attackers don't show up. Coutinho is on course to be one of the worst transfers of all time.
Looked pretty good at the end of last season and it seemed like Dembele would be the one flopping.
We'll see.

Might become the biggest waste of money ever

The list of most expensive players ever has mostly successful entries, the worst were Lukaku (Utd), Di Maria (Utd), Ibra (Barca), Kaka (Real) and Morata (Chelsea) if we look at players costing above 60m euros. The damning fact is that Coutinho costs twice as much as all the other failed transfers.

That's three games (well, two and a half) in a row now where Levante have if not dominated then otherwise created lots of clear cut chances against Barça.
Their 5-4 win last season obviously, but even in the 0-5 defeat at Ciutat this season they matched Barça for most of the game and should've easily scored several goals.

To be fair, all of them were/are at home but they've generally been quite potent under Paco López. They're still very vulnerable to individual mistakes and can concede bucketloads at times (6 vs Sevilla and 3 against La Real at home, 4 at Eibar and the five at Camp Nou) , but on the team play level they look good with some interesting players, e.g. Morales, Bardhi, Campaña and Jason.

Coutinho has the air of a one-trick pony that's been figured out: lots of dispossessions and shots getting blocked every time he gets into the attacking third.
I guess he only needs one ball to fall perfectly, but it's not a good look.

Dembélé the only one producing a flicker of danger and Vidal will keep running forever, but everyone else has been average or poor.
Meanwhile, Levante should've been out of sight already in this game. Now, Morales missing a 1v1 with Cillessen.

How did Coutinho squeeze that penalty in?!

Away goal so Barca back to being big favourites to go through.

Neymar called Barcelona five times praying to return
" sources very close to these conversations ensure that the first contacts occurred during the last section of last season and have continued in very recent dates. The same sources maintain that, in all the calls, the father and representative of theplayer has conveyed the message that his son "was wrong to sign for the PSG" during the summer of 2017. "He is disappointed and very sorry", has communicated the progenitor to Barcelona, while harshly criticizing "the lack of sports project" of the team that runs Thomas Tuchel.

So Barca without Messi and Suarez are weaker than Levante?

Didn't you see last season's game that cost them their unbeaten record in the league? Without Messi, but with Suárez, Coutinho, Dembélé, Rakitic and Iniesta starting they were down 5-1 at one point in the Ciutat de València.

They had Yerry Mina and Vermaelen playing in defense in that game... this time they had Miranda and Brandariz.

Their defensive depth isn't good enough, the rest of the squad is perfect the way it is.

Good result in the end for Barca, they'll play their starters next time and make it through.

If Neymar ends up going back to barcelona Florentino would have a heart attack

The most surprising thing is that they have not ruled him out 100% yet. Even praying to Barcelona. What a trojan horse would be
