La Liga 2017/18

Awful positioning by the linesman in the first goal

It's not great but I don't think it's too bad either. He's virtually in line with the last defender which is where he's supposed to be. It's Deulofeu (how on earth an Everton reject is starting games for Barca is beyond me) that's blocking him from seeing Messi rather than his position.

Yeah, despite losing their key man Valverde.
They seem really happy with the new guy. They have brought Nunez in for Yeray at CB to partner Laporte and he is doing great. De Marcos has a sprained ankle and is good linking with Williams and Aduriz yet it is still ticking along despite have a couple of good players out. Well pleased.

The travelling will be tricky this week. They go to play Hertha Berlin in the EL on Thursday, then go to Las Palmas on Sunday.

Had to be Aduriz.

His 150th goal for Athletic, putting him 5th outright on their all-time top scorers list.

1. Telmo Zarra, 335 goals
2. Dani, 199 goals
3. Arieta I, 170 goals
4. José Luis Panizo, 163 goals
5. Aritz Aduriz, 150 goals

Despite his age, he could potentially reach 3rd although it will be incredibly tough.

His record in all competitions for Athletic over three spells (2002-03, 2005-08, 2012-present) : 325 apps, 150 goals, 42 assists

Aduriz is immense. He is 36 years old, but stronger than ever :D

Watching Celta-Alavés, this Maxi Gómez kid sure is lively.
Pity they took away his goal from the last game, apparently his shot was going wide so it was adjudged an owngoal.

Normally Real Sociedad chokes against Real Madrid, but they're still playing good so the team needs to take their chances against them and start winning games.

Think 1 and 2 are pretty safe. He has a fabulous record for them.

It is really interesting that Real Madrid have already dropped points in 2 games. Didn't see that coming so early. I think Zidane has been an excellent manager, but I don't understand his rotation yesterday. They play Apoel in the champions league with Ronaldo being able to play. See no big reason why they needed to rest so many players for this game particular after points dropped against Valencia. The Real Madrid squad is also weaker than last season after they sold a lot of good players without bringing others in. Barcelona have had the better window despite Neymar leaving. I do think Barcelona will win it this season, but hopefully Real and Atletico bounce back fast so we get a great race this season as well.

So Villareal finally managed to win their first game of the season. I expect them to finish 4/5th, with the squad they have.

Just caught up with this thread. Did people actually think Messi was in decline? Lolwut? Did anyone watch him last season? He was immense all season in a dysfunctional team.

Messi is outstanding even when he looks shit

Well, thankfully his hair is slightly more appropriate this season.

First match in Wanda Metropolitano, it looks a very pretty stadium

Getafe 15:15 Barcelona
Real Betis 17:30 Deportivo La Coruña
Atlético Madrid 19:45 Malaga

Biggest game of the weekend is Real Sociedad V Real Madrid. Real Sociedad (like Barcelona) are yet to drop a point, Real Madrid have won one, drawn two. Ronaldo is still suspended. Marcelo is also suspended. Kovacic is injured, out for two months. I've not seen an update on Asensio yet - he was missing on Wednesday against APOEL, allegedly due to an infection sustained from shaving his legs, but I expect he'll be back. Benzema is injured as well.

Expect Real Sociedad to give Madrid a run for their money.

That can be a blessing in disguise till CR7 comes back.
Can't understand why they don't even have a good striker who can score goals.

Andreas Pereira set to start in the Valencia derby (Neto - Gaya, Murillo, Garay, Montoya - Pereira, Parejo (c), Kondogbia, Soler - Rodrigo, Mina. Bench: Domenech, Vidal, Latorre, Gabriel, Maksimović, Zaza, Guedes).

Time to shine after average debut against strong Atletico?

How was his loan spell at Granada?

How was his loan spell at Granada?
I'd say he was one of better players, but should've had more assists/goals. All his "points" came more out of luck then skill.

Actually not bad in a hopeless team
Their squad wasn't that bad. All the players had more seasons of 1st league football, but something just wasn't right there. Something between team chemistry and tactics of managers they had. If you look where are they now, almost all players went to better clubs (Pereira -> Valencia, Krhin -> Nantes, Oier -> Levante, Ponce -> Lille, etc.). Of course they had a lot of players (more then 10) on loan at their club and that seems to be the problem of loyalty. Luck just wasn't on their side.
