La Liga 2017/18

Why exactly they bought Coutinho in January if he doesn’t start before the crucial CL game in order to give some rest rest for those eligible to play? Seems odd.

Eibar falling apart, Barca playing better than the scoreline suggests.

Barcelona's defense is insane this season, 11 goals conceded in the league, 1 in the CL and 3 in the cup. Surely they're going to be breaking some records.

2 years, 77 rounds of la liga without a penalty

This is another of those situations when people will bash again on the 2 years thing, and if it was Ramos it would be "both players are holding each other, that's not a pen".

I just hope var comes to fix things and they don't do a lousy job with it, so we can start getting called both the penalties against and for us, I'd happily trade that right now.

I am not friend of underestimating the achievements because of referee decisions, but two years without a penalty is a stat too showy, and it is good to remember it before FCBarca comes with the "Welcome to Spain" :D.
I have doubts about the Var, I guess we'll end up criticizing it too

You will, trust me. People who think VAR will end controversy are in for a big shock

I know, we will end with Rafa Guerrero and his ruler to decide if var is wrong

Here's an highlight that went viral from portuguese TV - with subtitles

They get a lot worse than this though, at least with Chiringuito from the one or two I've seen they don't really take themselves that seriously.

 very good. What did he say about sleeping with a minister?

It won't be comfortable at all. This reminds me of Celta Vigo last season. On paper we should walk all over them, but Jose will set up to defend, giving Sevilla control of the game, and we saw in Juve/Spurs what happens when you give the other team too much of the ball. If there's one tie in this round that has the potential for upset, it's ours (not because we're poor, but because we'll hand the impetus to Sevilla).

I do think the first leg will be tight. Has 0-1 Man. United written all over it. Or maybe 1-1.

Would be hugely shocked if it wasn't anything other than a comfortable win at Old Trafford. Sevilla concede loads away. Even today they could've drawn at Las Palmas with a very sloppy last ten minutes after the penalty.

Coutinho's struggled to adapt to Barca's style so far, been taken off in the games he's started so far. Probably see the best of him next season.

I have no idea, he's basically trying to change the subject

We really do out football shows right. Meanwhile british people have Gary Neville or Carragher talking about tactics or actual football, they don't know what they're missing :D

Here years ago there was (I think there is still) a program with highlights and experts, which was called estudio estadio, but it was quite boring and the fans used to constantly mock the pundits.
I still remember Riazor singing the "Michel Maricón" when we knew he was a commentator .
In el chiringuito I like D'Alessandro and Gatti. Guti also spoke well when he used to go.
Here the serious talks are reserved for the radio.

Well, I've just found out this happened...

We don't even have serious shows anywhere, only football show here I ever liked here was called Liga dos Ultimos where they'd go into small villages and follow the fans of the lower leagues, it's incredible the characters they found at those places. Now there's only these shows where they get one representative for Porto, Sporting and Benfica and have them yell at eachother for 2 hours. It's the exact same thing on 3 different channels at the exact same time and somehow they all have enough people watching for it not to get cancelled

Depor playing so bad as before Seedorf. Eneko Bóveda CB and Albentosa again in the team. I don´t understand how Adrián is the new captain. I can´t imagine him encouraging the team.
And now a very good goal for Munir :(

 yes, Michel and Valderrama are mythical. Actually in tv I forgot about Robinson, has a decent program http://www.movistarplus.es/cero/informerobinson/videos and El día después, although is not a chat between pundits.

Well, obviously there's no way we haven't done even a couple stonewall penalties in two years (not just barely or so-so).

Might be my biased opinion tho, but I think that at worse we get as many decisions wrong in the enemy area than in our own, that's why I'd trade being giving away every penalty decision against us if the same rules apply on the other area.

By the way, Munir...

Not watching the game but who exactly is playing central midfield for them?

Just had a look at their 11 and they have listed Andone (central striker), Lucas Perez (central or wide striker), Bakkali (winger), Adrian (striker at Porto and Atletico Madrid) and Khrohn Deli (attacking midfielder) all started.

To me you start Borges and Emre Colak in midfield to try to give their awful defence so more protection, give Carles Gil another shot as the linkman to attack as he can chip in with goals (completely forgot he's still our player) and then perm 3 from those listed above. I have no idea what position Guliherme plays or if he's any good.

Seedorf seems to be putting as many strikers out there without realising they need some quality ball to them from the middle of the pitch...

Yes, a weird selection for a game away from home.
In theory it is a 4231 with Krohn Delhi and Guilherme. There he also has Mosquera, the boy from Madrid and Borges and Colak as you said, but I don´t know. I think is a collective problem where there may be problems in the dressing room.
Mosquera looked like a good midfielder a couple of years ago, now is a disaster, like Lucas or the defense.

Çolak was kicked from training by Parralo just before Seedorf took the job for basically not even trying, then he went to instagram or whatever to say it was a communication problem because of language, no one bought it, Seedorf came, probably found that out and that was probably why he was in the bench vs Betis and didn't even travel to Vitoria today

Never scored for us, scored an amazing header for Valencia against Malaga. I love you Coq

Thought Eibar deserved more against Barca today. They bossed the game in the second half, but they lacked the cutting edge.

Why did they not rest anyone when they're going to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday and they have a pretty comfortable lead in the league?
I remembered discussing this in the Coutinho thread months back, saying him moving in January is risky for him. One of the point is that football is not that black and white where managers just totally rest players for next game flushing B players. Sometimes, managers would need to keep the momentum/ maintain form for the starting players and continue to use them not having their hot streak cool down.

What's the risk though? One way or another he would have to go through an adaptation period...Certainly easier to do it while they have a decent lead in the league and are already in a cup final, as opposed to transferring in the summer and immediate results being expected. I guess there was a theoretical chance of a CL win at Liverpool, but beside that i really can't think of anything else.

I talked about the risk for his international career. He is not in optimal form for WC qualification. Already not playing CL and now as I suspect, he ain't guaranteed to get all the minutes possible in La Liga to quicken the adaption phase either.

Why I understand other poster response to me back then that Coutinho pretty cement his place in Brazil NT, it's still a doubt Brazil would still persist with him till the end if his form dipped during the tournament. Dani Alves kept getting dropped during the tournament when he failed to transfer his club form to Brazil NT. Brazil NT drive to win WC ain't clouding their judgement, when it comes to this kind of tough call. There is the risk

Kovačić starting, might watch it. This is his second start in La Liga, the only one before being against Barcelona. A little bit surprising considering Real's form that he didn't get more minutes.

Talking all this as I hope he might be on the market. :wenger:

Many of us wonder the same (as with Ceballos).
There were games where Modric and Kroos needed a break and they continued playing.
Maybe he(Zidane)used the same players for loyalty, since they were being criticized, or maybe he just thinks Kovacic is not good enough.
Anyway all those prophecies of "will be the new Modric", "in x years will be one of the best midfielders" do not work so easily.
He might be in the market but for you would be including someone in return...:p

 Benz benched?!

Let's hope Asensio, Bale and Cris all score hat tricks.
 it would be great but he is too stubborn. Anyway after the PSG game Asensio needs more minutes, and hopefully in Paris too

Well, the likes of Varane & Modric are being benched as well.

Almost like (wait for it) Zidane is rotating with his gala XI.

Haha, probably. The negotiation with you are always so smooth, so I'm sure there won't be any problems if we just want to pay the cash. Or you can always take Darmian.

Yeah, weird that he didn't play him more and when he did it was Barcelona. I sometimes also think he didn't progress as much as he should and then I see he's only still 23 which is no age for the midfielder and the talent is clearly there. Modric at that age just signed for Tottenham and didn't have so great first season. His defensive game also improved in Madrid. Well, at least from a little time that I've seen him play.
