La Liga 2017/18

Great goal by Leo and well earned win but Paco was clearly offside. Wakaso definitely should've been sent off sooner but a competitive match overall

Valverde failed to react quickly enough IMHO, lucky only to have fallen behind by a single goal. Lack of wing play is burning my eyes to watch, hate the 4-4-2

I've only seen the goals but the keeper in Alaves should have done a lot better on both of the goals he conceded. First one he placed himself inside the goal line behind the post for some reason and on the freekick he gave himself every chance to save it but just missed the ball with his hand.
The keeper made a number of top saves during the game though. One save against a previous Messi free kick was absolutely stunning.

He had a fantastic game otherwise I have to say. He saved a FK from Messi earlier in the game, which was a much more difficult save than the one he let in. Overall Alaves played a goog game although it was with a lot of fouling, and like with loads of Barca games this season, Barca wore them out in the second half and they ran out of steam.

When they had something to defend, they dropped massively deep, when they were drawing and losing, Alaves were pressing us right into our own penalty area. WTF is the point in teams always doing this shit in big matches against big teams, then not bothering with even half that effort in normal league matches? So many teams deny themselves more points, longer cup runs, etc. I know people say "raising their game" and all that, but they prove they can operate at a higher level than the league position suggests, this always happens when teams play Barca, Madrid, Man Utd, Man C, Bayern, etc.

Real tough win. Messi's FK was similar to the Olympiakos one, a good effort but the keeper probably could have done better. Some "luck" with the offside but Alcacer was cleaned out by a guy who should have seen red. Also, handballs have to be deliberate, I think several posters on here often forget that.

But as a neutral fan, I'd say: Unlucky to concede from a FK given to a player who was in an offside position. Suarez should also have been sent off after it was already 2-1 (right?).

Pique's handball and that "penalty" shout, come on, you know better than this. You just want to make your sentence longer. Both not deliberate, and very close to the ball.

Also, as a neutral fan I'd also mention a couple of incidents that Alaves benefited from, like the missed red card on their player.
I don't think that Alaves should have gotten a penalty but in La Liga that's generally a handball. The goal was definitely handball. His hand was in an unnatural position and it deflected the ball into the goal. Clear handball but tough to see for the officials.

The offside for the free kick decision was straight up poor from the linesman, it wasn't close. Suarez not being sent off is typical but it's something that should be dealt with post-match.

Very annoying for a Alaves fan that all these things benefited Barcelona. Every point they get will matter, this match changes nothing for Barca.

This link'll cheer you up giorno ;) -

feck me. That guy had everything, aim, strength, potence even luck.

Messi is not even the best from Barcelona history. Koeman and Ronaldinho were better from recent history on FK

Good signing for them considering their situation. Played very well for Celta and had a good first season at Sevilla before that really bad injury in the europa final.

Needs games to make the Danish world cup squad.

Depor sign Krohn-Dehli

It's a perfect match for both parts, he needs minutes and Depor needed a class midfielder, especially with the rumours of Çolak leaving the club.

I think that they have bigger problems than just getting quality players tho, but at this point Kron-Dehli, Lucas, Adrian and Andone should be more than enough to keep them in primera, that's a front four of Europa League level

Yes,good signing for the money available. It seems the club trusts Parralo so hopefully the new signings will make a difference.
Málaga and Las Palmas are really bad but I don't see Levante or Alavés worse than Depor right now.By the way,you were right about Abelardo Ishdalar.
Certainly It looks a different team

@wr8_utd

Did you go as planned? Looks like Messi put on a show for you.
@wr8_utd Yeah, curious how the atmosphere was because it was such a competitive match for more than an hour and then you could hear even Betis fans singing Messi's name
Hey guys. Yup I was in the stands for this and it was absolutely UNREAL watching him play live. He wasn't even at his absolute best and he was still ten levels above everyone on the pitch. Suarez (apart from lovely finishes) and Gomes have some absolutely shambolic passing and touch at times
But watching Messi was just so surreal. I don't think the Betis fans were chanting Messi because from what I could make out it was more Beti Beti but there was this piece of magic dribbling which he pulled off in the second half which had even the Betis fans all around me ooohing and clapping from him.
As a football fan, if there's one player you can watch play football, it's just got to be Messi. 2 goals, 2 assists and some unbelievable dribbling. Well worth the 90 euros

Levante will go imo. Alaves playing very well (not just last night) and Depor still got home games against likes of Malaga, Las Palmas and a few other teams around them they can win.

You were at the Betis match? Amazing! You got seeing him put on such a good performance. That bit of skill that you're talking about made me want to stand up and applaud from home. I was sure he was going to lose the ball and like always he somehow (nutmeg) got away. He just got one assist, but it was a brilliant one too, a few minutes after that piece of skill.

I can't view the video but I'm pretty sure it was that. Everyone just gasped and then applauded for the genius that he is. There was another piece of sublime skill in the box that I actually managed to capture on video. He was just phenomenal in the second half.

Deulofeu gone to Watford on loan. Lads running out of chances now. IMO he's actually very shit despite having obvious talent

Fans of la Real seem quite angry in Twitter. He had said years ago that would never go to Athletic.
I think the last time that this happened was with Etxeberria years ago.

What does it say as there is nothing on Bilbao's website. I maybe should refresh it.

Roque Mesa, Layun and eventually Sandro Ramirez are going to join Sevilla.

I don't really understand these transfers, because they don't address the major concerns; but it can't get much worse. So many genuinely terrible performances. Individually I dont mind these players (considering that its just loan+ option), but I dont see how they help to solve the shortcomings of the team. The biggest issue is that the team works best with n'Zonzi and banega as dm/cm. Yet we lack a useful/dangerous #10/AM/ss/b2b who could complement them. Mudo vazquez is aweful, yet he is the only option for this position (the manager(s) have refused to test a system with two forwards). Whoever plays in this position needs to be efficient in the final third, because the wingers don't score enough goal, while the CF is often isolated. Currently it often looks like we play just with 10 men, while there is a massive hole in the team.

Changing the system towards a double pivot failed spectacularly. Pizarro and Nzonzi have no understanding how to play in this system. Individually Pizarro is good, but he can't partner NZonzi. It just doesnt work. Geis is non-existent.

The second issue is about individual quality in defence. Escuerdo is great, but thats about it. For some reason Arias bought Arana for this position now. No idea whats that about, after all Carole just joined the team last summer as backup (he is not great, but thats a different issue). On the other side, Corchia and Mercado are both not entirely convincing as fullback. Navas is okay. Maybe Layun can make the position his own, but I am not entirely convinced. Maybe one of the Portuguese posters, can tell me why he lost his starting spot to Pereira, which is not a good sign. @Sly @Arruda

Lenglet is okay. Carrico, Pareja and Kjaer seem to have a competition, who can miss out most games with an injury. Carrico and Pareja are both old, bad and permanently injured. Kjaer is never 100% fit. Hopefully Mercado gets now an extended run as partner of Lenget. I never understood why he was used as fullback in the first place.

@carvajal warned me/us about bringing back "oldies" and he was right. Nolito is a non-factor. Navas just a work-horse. While Navas is okay as squad player, the team lacks at least one additional quality player up front. Sarabia and Correa are not on the level, that they should start every game of the season without proper competition. Ben Yedder seems to struggle now that he is not a nailed on starter. Yet he just doesn't offer enough to justify that; he is too limited.
I still like Muriel and see a positive development lately. He just needs a lot more support. Hopefully the manager trusts him and builds the attack around him. He is imo quality.y

Overall the season is extremely frustrating. So many questionable decisions on all levels. So much dead-wood in the squad. Carrico, Pareja, Carole, geis, Ganzo, Vazquez and Nolito should all leave at the end of the season. I also don't have strong feelings about Corchia and Ben Yedder. Thats almost half of the squad. Meh.

I have found out now. Well, no weeping from them, just get yourself sorted. Move on.

Good weeks for you.Firstly the renewal of Kepa and now perhaps 2 players(Mikel Merino)with the money of Laporte.
I think Roque Mesa can be a good option @PedroMendez but don't understand the signing of Layún.Is he a left back,as Arana?.

Layun is a decent player, reliable, has good numbers goals and assist wise but it was natural that he lost his place to Alex Telles who is in super form and will probably move to a top european club in the end of the season. Sevilla got a decent option in him.

Mikel Merino? They tried to get him in the summer and he chose Newcastle?

He's indeed a left back primarly but can also play as right back and in the left side midfield. Considering Sevilla's current level, i think he can be a good option. He's an average defender but attacks well, knows how to cross and is a decent free kick taker. Like i said, he had good numbers at Porto.

Layun surely can't be bought as left-back, considering that Escudero is probably the third best player of the team and Arias just purchased an expansive youngster. Hopefully he surprises me as RB or on the wing. Roque Mesa was linked to Sevilla the last two summers. So this transfer is hardly surprising. I like him, but I struggle to see how he fits into the midfield with Banega and NZonzi. The team lacks goals and creativity in the final third.

Thanks Sly,I didn't know that he was right back too

It seems that he could leave this window.Athletic interested again

This might amuse our regular la Liga watches.

Apparently Stoke are interested in Andone of Deportivo. Fee being speculated is 20m......(might be euros).

He's an o.k striker but if there's any truth in that it kind of fits premier league teams have more money now than sense.
