Vazquez should get an assist for that goal - the space he bought for Ramos by pushing the Deportivo defenders away from him was crucial to getting the winner.

Did the commentator just say that Ramos has 47 league goals in his career? There's no way that's correct, is there?
Yeah 47/48 La Liga goals.

Only my 2nd time this season. That GK antics reminded me why I dont watch...I know I'm missing some great stuff obviously but I cant stand the acting stuff.
Fair enough mate.

Fecks sake, if I'm a defender and Ramos is against me in the extra time there's no way I will let him charge like he's doing lately, no one screening him seems mental
It's very hard to mark him in general but Deportivo mentally folded long ago. Only cared about diving and kicking the ball away instead of playing football like they did before they scored.

 Has there ever been a defender with so many big/important goals as Sergio Ramos?

how have they done that.. we need to sign Ramos to replace Zlatan

Real Madrid's winning mentality is phenomenal. I don't like them, but it's irrefutable.

Sergio Ramos and his last-minute crucial goals. Gotta respect the guy, he's a fecking beast.

Incredible finish to the game. The difference in quality once Danilo went off was plain to see.

Glad that RM seems to be running away with it, they are a bunch of cnuts, but atleast they are not Barca.

Is Ramos one of the best headers in the game or what?

With Ramos, Bale and Ronaldo it's a wonder you don't score from every corner (when they're all playing of course).

United could do with a striker like Ramos.

For a moment we all believed then he was hugging Florentino as if he met his long lost Father :(

Seriously though, never seen such a clutch player. Time and time again he has bailed you out. We could do with a Sergio Ramos to convert all those draws into victories.

Sidnei did a good job keeping Ramos at tab a couple minutes before that, sticking to him and not letting him run, then Lucas makes a screen and everyone is ok with that

Garitano threw the game when he benched Andone, not the first time this year he does that, they lose their teeth, get overwhelmed and eventually lose anyway, might be the 3rd of 4th game like that

There is a spanish saying to describe luck, that goes something like: "having a flower in the butt".

Zizou must have a whole garden in his behind:lol:

Hands down the jammiest manager of all time. How the feck does he do it?

There is nothing jammy about a 35 game unbeaten run stretching from last season. His subs again changed the game today, he brought on Mariano who equalized and then he immediately pushed Ramos forward in search of a winner and lo and behold Ramos gets the winner.

There is no way someone on a 35-match unbeaten run is 'lucky', I'm sorry.

Definitely. I can't imagine there could ever have been a better team on set pieces. Ramos, Bale, Ronaldo, Varane/Pepe in the box with Kroos delivering the ball.

Agree. And it is a demonstration of strength, to win, and to complete this remontada when 5-6 starters are put aside. I can't think of any team that would be able to cope with 'only' 3-4 starters gone and still have the consitency of getting the results. It is no luck when there is a pattern, their remontadas are not exceptions.

There's no way someone on a 35-match unbeaten run is not "lucky". Be it this squad, Wenger's invincibles, Pep's barcelona or the best XI in the history of the sport managed by SAF.

No matter how dominant those squads were, in their best streak you can find 4/6 games they were really lucky not to lose

 You think there's no luck involved in football?

The whole club is much more focused on playing football and creates little drama off the pitch. Thats imo a huge improvement. Additionally, Zidane stopped using these overly attacking line-ups and balanced the team. He also uses all the players in their best roles/positions and allows them to play their natural game. Last but not least the players seem to have found a hierarchy that to work for everybody.

You know the quote, luck is when preparation meets oportunity. The hunger of winning, to get that the strikers defend or insist until the last minute is part of Zidane´s merits. Team spirit. Then It´s obviously easier if in the corner is Modric or Kroos.

How did you make that out from my post? :wenger:

Of course there is luck involved in football and ultimately every successful team has had bit of luck going their way but going on a 35 game unbeaten spree is not just mere luck. I could dish all kind of superlatives to explain that run but luck is not as massive a factor as you make it out to be. It's bit like opposition fans calling us winning the league under Fergie in the past all down to good luck, it makes no sense.

Right, but some suggesting luck is the main reason for this run, which is clearly not correct. FWIW I don't really rate this Madrid team (bar the midfield) as high as some others, but I think they show tremendous determination and tightness as a team, which I think plays as big a part in this run as the quality of the players.

Some comeback from Real Madrid. Saved my accas as well! They were poor in the first half though.

Meanwhile in Valencia ... the "jugadores mercenarios" of every year

Yep. They had to be lead with police escort. Their season has reached Koeman level... Although, there is no David Villa this time, so interesting to see how they'll manage this.

This can´t be a problem of the manager. I think that they have to clean the dressing room.

Absolutely. What I meant is that the have sunk to the same crisis as when Koeman was in charge. Although, I think Koeman took over after a lousy start (and wasn't their manager at the start of that season), and then made it worse. But this edition of Valencia crisis got a problem that is rooted way deeper...

Horrible management on every level for a long time and once Lim took over, Mendes took them to the cleaner. Some of their transfer decisions were just hideous. The problem is not just quality but also the mentality of their players. Even the few talented players are struggling under these circumstances. Hard to see how they get out of the mess again.

Marca publishes an article about Zidane's record of victories. Curiously during the streak the most used player has been Lucas Vázquez (has been in the starting line-up 20 times and Madrid have never lost).
