La Liga - 2014/15

Brave team selection from Luis Enrique, no Iniesta and Xavi still on the bench. Neymar back from injury and on the bench too.

Iniesta is injured I thought but he did indeed go for Rafinha (in his more established position at CM) rather than Xavi, which is refreshing to see. Messi wearing the captain's armband?

Somehow there are always rumours about Alves leaving but he ends staying everytime!

Indeed.

Re Messi, he's actually running about, just won the ball back and produced another key pass for Pedro. He looks back to his absoloute best. It's great to see.

Also a surprise as Pique is playing.

Not really, it's based on seniority and Messi's been a member of the first team since 2004, Piqué only since 2008. He's only got Xavi and Iniesta ahead of him now that Puyol and Valdés are gone -- and Xavi isn't looking a likely starter under Luis Enrique.

Dos Santos is going to score against his old club, I can feel it!

Edit - Isn't Rafinha his brother by the way? Or is that Tiago Alcantara's brother?

Jonathan dos Santos is Gio's brother, he moved there this season, Gio was already there since last season.

Rafinha is Thiago's brother.

I was sure he was one of the vice captains in previous seasons.

This year seems it's Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and Messi.

Villarreal are parking the bus at every given opportunity that's why.

Rakitic is doing very well, excellent signing for Barcelona.

It's like watching two stubborn mules, the thing is though is that Villareal look dangerous on the counter so they're happy to sit behind the ball.
this is the kind of game you see a lot of times between a good team tht wants to win and a bad team that will be happy if they only lose by one goal difference

of course it´s not going to be pretty, but it´s not barcelonas fault

Messi's a one man attack at the moment, Munir looks out his depth against this lot and Pedro's declined big time since 2011.

Villarreal aren't a bad team at all though.

Where did that Munir guy come from all of a sudden? Is he a Masia product?

Yup. Scored on his debut last week against Elche.

Villarreal away isn't an easy fixture though, and there's 5 guys in there who weren't starters last season (or even in the squad for that matter). A brand new CM set-up as well in this game: Rafinha-Busquets-Rakitic.

Neymar has to be on in the second half, that defence needs someone to run at them and cause a bit of chaos. Giving it to Alves to lump into the box is just pointless, and something they looked to do far too much of last season.

Can Sky please put subtitles up when Ardiles opens his mouth. He's been a pundit for the Spanish football for years now and I still can't understand the fecker.
