I agree. There were a few moments in the first half where he (Mathieu) was in acres of space down the left when Neymar had the ball and he was just jogging instead of sprinting to overlap him.
Leftback? He came to Valencia on a free transfer as a left back and left back only.
He did a very good job until Jordi Alba broke through as a converted leftback and he was moved in to play at CB.
He was once a very good attacking leftback with speed and a quality cross being his main asset, but that was several seasons ago
