La Liga 2013-2014

Ronaldo has 177 Liga goals in 165 games in 5 seasons. Only 1 league title.

He must be disappointed with that. He's won more with us.

Yup. Ronaldo is a legend for Madrid but his move to Madrid(trophy wise) has been a failure. Will most probably change in the next month or so though.

Not sure about that to be honest. I feel like there are more teams in the Premier League that could take points from us than in La Liga.
That means more points to take away from our opposition too. Since 09/10 in both the Europa league and the cl Spanish clubs have been doing better than the premiership clubs imo. Would you honestly say city are a better team than us, atletico or barca?

Hmmm, yeah good point.

Barcelona will now treat this final match like a CL final. A Madrid will find it tough

Is treating it like a CL final going to result in a better performance than when they treated their CL quarter final like a CL quarter final? Barcelona's problems are a lot more than just motivation.

Atlético the favourites still for me, not sure why people are saying they've thrown it away, yet. 5 times without a win for Barcelona against them and I've seen nothing that suggests the run will end.

When is Diego Costa back?

and Villa was shocking in this match. Can't understand why Simeone kept him on and took off Koke, who can always whip in a great ball or a great set piece.

As long as Atletico haven't run out of gas, they're favourites for me.

The game is set up perfectly for them, barring an early Barça goal they'll just make it as cagey and scrappy as possible. 0-0 quite likely IMO.

Should be fine for the Barcelona game, but depends how he trains this week I suppose.

Is the title cursed? Why are all three teams shooting themselves in the foot in the last couple of games, unbelievable stuff :D

I'm not sure whether this Barca team can win against Atletico. They just don't seem up to it for me. And Atletico have done well against them all season long, hope they don't crack now.

Apparently the Barcelona-Atletico match has been scheduled the same time as the FA Cup final...

The last 10 mins were crazily intense stuff. That save from Willy. If Atlleti blow this title, Adrian won't get sleep for years.

No, it's on the Sunday isn't it. 5pm. It's not going to be one of those ridiculous ones where it misses the first 15 mins off is it....

Edit: You're right, they've just said it's Saturday.

What's the news with Godín and Costa? Will they be back in time for Saturday?

Will Barca be champions if they win the final game? IRC La Liga doesn't use GD as the secoond criteria after points.

You can always up your game for a one off. The two CL games, they dominated possession wise and were hit on the counter. They will dominate in the camp nou. Id love to see athletico win and they may hold out for a draw. But if barca get a goal, its curtains

You can, and it would be stupid to say Barcelona have no chance of winning but as I said in that post, Barcelona's problem has been more than just a lack of motivation. They'll need to up their game, and can obviously do so, but it's not a switch you turn on. They were motivated today and couldn't win, and have been in the same scenario many times this season (including against Atlético). They don't control games as well as they used to and they don't break down defences as well as they used to either. Most of their players are out of form too.

Barcelona will dominate possession and Atlético couldn't stop that even if they wanted to - can Barcelona stop leaking chances though? I've only seen the highlights but even today they looked as likely to concede as they did score, so I'm not sure it's curtains if you go one goal up.

Why is Willy Cabellero not Argentina's keeper?

That's not a rhetorical question by the way, I'm genuinely curious to hear theories about why he's invisible to Argentina's managers.

Probably the same reason why players like Miranda, Filipe Luis, Firmino weren't called up by Scolari. Honestly, it's the only reason I could think of. I don't believe their other keeper's are better, certainly not on current form.

Not sure, but I've wondered the same. Musacchio should surely be in the squad too, even if only as a back up.

Barca have been OK at home though. Not perfect, but very good, W16 D1 L1 at home. In some ways it's reminiscent of Rijkaard's last season where they were passionless looking all round but it was their away form that killed them.

Yeah that's a fair point. I wouldn't rule Barcelona out of it obviously, just see Atlético as favourites and find it strange that some people are acting like they've thrown the league away already.

They have won no points at the camp nou since 2005. It will be a tough ask, although their record against Barca this season is decent, they still only beat them once out of 5 games. Barca are massive favourites now.
What are you talking about? Atletico are definitely the favorites, and they will win the league.

Who cares about 2005, Atletico met Barcelona twice in the Camp Nou this season and they drew both games. They played Barcelona 5 times this season and Barcelona didn't win any of them. Those are the stats that you should be looking for, because Atletico only need a draw against Barcelona, something they managed to achieve (or better) in 5 out of 5 times this season.

And with their recent troubles added (Valdes' injury, Pique's injury, Messi's recent form) I can't really see how Barcelona can beat them next Saturday.

Because their starting GK has been a bench warmer at Monaco all season!

I can't give a more sensible answer about that whole absurd situation, really...

my blood pressure goes up a little everytime i think about romero and caballero.

edit:

a video for people to get familiar this donkey

They couldn't even get their game up against the likes of Getafe and Elche with the title on the line (nor for the CL QF 2nd leg or the CdR Final)... Now they HAVE to beat an opponent they haven't beaten in 5 meetings this season (and only scored against twice). Barça might well do it, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it. A draw all day would be my prediction. Mainly because Atlético can just approach this game the way it suits them the most (cf. Chelsea 2nd leg). You could be right when you say that if Barça score first it could be curtains... conversely, I feel that if they haven't scored by the 60th minute it's not gonna happen.

i think atletico madrid are favorites as well. I can't see Barcelona getting any more then a draw at most. Atletico's defence has been superb against barcelona the past 3-4 times they've faced off. Arda Turan got the best of the barca midfield in their fall clash as well. All over the field atletico have consistent quality and i expect them to handle Barcelona's offense very well.

For me it always seems as the big S-American teams prefer to use players playing in S-America if possible. There's always some omitted that are strange. Caballero was the best keeper in the world in 2012 (I'm talking about form here) and hasn't faltered from that greatly.

Maxwell finally go a call up. He's got 7 friendlies under his belt and he's 32. Brazil's strikers are Fred and Jo. That surely can't be the best on offer?

Barca are at home though so you just never know. With their players, 1 home game to win and their champions. It really can go either way and I wouldn't have anyone as favourites really.

All of Barcelona/Atletico/RM really bottled this title race. It will go down to who bottled it more rather than who stood up when the pressure was at its biggest to win the title-race.

The mentality might be different at the weekend. Knowing whats on the line. They will be saying one game thats it, lets give it our all. should be a cracker
