La Liga 2013-2014

Barca's title now IMO. In a title deciding game at home I'm siding with Messi. Especially with Atletico having an eye on the CL final. Knowing Barca though they'll slip up in their next game and make the final day irrelevant. Even if they do steal the title Martino has to go.

So the final game should be a big deal like everybody expected it to be. Should be a great game. Atletico have been the team of the season for me and would well deserve to win the double.

There will be tears on the last day and I have a horrible feeling it might be the Atletico players crying.

That was a crazy end to the game! Really hope Atleti and Barca beat Levante and Elche. It'll be a crazy final day. Barca's season was over Saturday night and now they could be champions. Such a crazy sport!

Also, Ancelotti has only won three leagues titles in 15 years?!

Yeah I was surprised at this. For whatever reason I though he had won a truck load of Serie A's at Milan. He only got one there in, what 8 years?

Why does Ancelotti have such a poor league record? Does he not know how to fully use a squad?

Carlo almost never won League titles at Milan. Remember so many times that they'd concentrate on Europe and be woeful in the league.

Crazy week in La Liga. First Barca slipped up and everyone thought they were done. Then Real had 2 amazing opportunities to do the treble but they messed up in Valencia and then blew it again today. Atletico may still be able to clinch the title but it's going to be a very nervy end to the season.

That being said don't be surprised if there are a few other twists this weekend in La Liga.

With their president you never know, but even he must realise that if he sacks him there is no one better available.
it would be unreasonable to sack him, but reason never stopped perez.

Sometimes Madrid looks a bit on-off. I saw a couple of games where the just stopped playing for 10-20, but usually they still won. I guess they lost it against barca/atletico with just 1 point out of 4 games? really weird season, but incredible entertaining.

Yeah, the lack of league titles during his time at Milan is the big flaw in his CV (though winning the CL twice in that period does make up for it somewhat).

I'd love to hear from a Milan fan as to why it didn't happen. I know there were a couple of times where he finished runner up to Juve teams that then had their titles stripped so that may be a factor. I'm not sure it explains it fully though...

Well I cant comment on all of his league campaigns but it seems to me that when we were under pressure this year like at most away grounds where its always tough or when we had to win to make up ground or go top of the table we have been unable to do so. We haven't beaten barca or atletico in the league so we haven't really taken advantage of those matches which are pressure games too.

Unbelievable fact. I also imagined that he won a bucket load of trophies and Serie A's in Italy but I guess not. Nevertheless, Madrid cannot afford to get rid of Carlo simply because I don't see a better alternative available. Guardiola, Mourinho, Klopp, Carlo, Van Gaal, Capello, Wenger, Simeone and Del Boque are the only world class managers who are currently big enough for Real Madrid, yet Madrid have either had half of them in the past and sacked them or there's no chance they could potentially get the others.

But with the players and the squad Madrid have you should've won the league. You're defence is a bit shaky.

But this only happens in the Premier League, don't you watch Sky Sports?

I don't know if I would blame the defence as we have kept lots of clean sheets and have defended well in 2014 imo. It would be hard to pick one thing and blame it on that for why we haven't won the league but it seems to me that the team hasn't shown as much focus or desire in the league in recent weeks as it has the champions league. For me that is inexcusable. Atletico as well as showing their class have shown their hunger and Madrid have not been able to match that. Perhaps the team has believed in its own hype as well at times and has been complacent. There are so may time we have dropped silly points this year and it is frustrating to think about what could have been, especially if we don't win the final in a few weeks time.

So you blame the players more than the manager for those dropped points?

Everyone has to take some blame, but at the end of the day its not ancelloti out there playing so I guess the players should take more of the blame. I don't want to take anything away from atletico though, but allowing barca to catch us is not a good thing imo and there is no excuse for allowing that to happen. It will be the first time in a log time we haven't finished in the top two.

Am I looking at the correct La Liga table? Atletico need 1 point to win the league right?

Four. Unless they lose the next match and barca win theirs and then atletico beat barca on the final day to win on the head to head record.

They need two draws. A draw against Málaga and a loss against Barcelona means Barcelona will the title if they win both their games, while a draw against Barcelona and a loss against Málaga means Real Madrid can win it.

Pretty strange, two points is all they need but three points might not be enough

This the first time in any major league that it'll be a direct shootout between two teams playing against each other?

Best title race since 06/07. Sadly it wont have the same outcome.
One of the most bizarre moments I've ever seen. Tamudo goal, and I think it was RVN's goal (right?). And Roberto Carlos won one 3-2 in the last second too.

Was just meant to be.

Higuaín I think. Really exciting final day, I didn't want Real Madrid to win though.

Edit: Think I'm getting mixed up with Higuaín.

If you are talking about Zaragoza then we drew that match 2-2 with van nistlerooy equalising in the last minute but barca conceded an equaliser around the same time in their match too so we stayed equal on points but Madrid were top because of the head to head.

Thanks people! Think I was looking at one (edit: a table) that was about 1-2 weeks old. :wenger:

Yep. That was the moment. Unbelievable.

Anyone think Ronnie will be feeling a little disappointed that in 5 seasons he has only 1 league title at Madrid?

I think Higuain scored against Mallorca? On the final day? Or was it Reyes?

Higuain did score an important goal though, in a 1-0 or 2-0 win I think.

A winner like him would. He walked away before the match finished, it showed how disappointed he was.

Very. Although I think he will end his Madrid career with 3, maybe 4 leagues and hopefully a cl. Also with lots of individual records broken and he will go down in history as one of Madrid greatest ever players and one of the best players ever to play in el classico.

Yeah probably, he's a perfectionist. Think he'd be a lot happier if they win la Décima though.

Reyes apparently. Can't remember who Higuaín scored against though, maybe he just set one up but I remember he was decisive in a title win. Might have even been a different year, my memory is shocking
