La Liga 2013-2014

Very interesting scenario if Real win all their games prior to last weekend. That will put them on 91 points, Barca on 88 and Atleti on 91 assuming everyone wins their games from here. Will Barca go for win hoping Espanyol do them favours at Madrid or will they let Atleti win if Madrid is winning their game. Will be interesting watch.

@Skorenzy

Was it you or @jojojo who insisted that Levante away would definitely prove a banana skin for Atleti?

Think she mentioned it too, but I was certain that stretch of Chelsea CL tie and consecutive away games v Valencia and Levante would take its toll. They'd been running on fumes offensively before that already. Although to be fair they've been mightily unlucky today.

I can only recall them being motivated against Atletico one time this season, and that was in the first leg of the quarter-finals in CL. They absolutely dominated Atletico after they went behind, especially Iniesta was in the playing mood that game.

I think we understand the term "motivated" differently.

They still have to win their games. 4 in total. Not certain it seems. Despite what we all tend to think most of the time...

Tonight will be a big test for Real, post European games always are. This result will give them a lift though you would imagine. Surely they aren't going to win the treble. :nervous:

How would you describe their response in that game then? To me, that period showed what the difference between a motivated and an unmotivated Barca team is.

Levante is a real pain in the ass. They have nothing left to play for this season, yet they still perform like this.

Still think atletico will win the title, albeit it'll be won by the tie breaker. Don't think Barca will get a result on the last day against atletico. Although today was a big slip up, even a point would have been okay.

If they had won today they would only have needed one more win to do it. So they need at least two more wins and one of those games is against Barca. If Barca don't decide to be complete assholes and bend over for Atletico I have a bad feeling that today's loss cost them the title.

What game? I was responding to your post (which said a motivated Barça could beat Atlético) by pointing out that they haven't beaten them once this season, in 5 games (4 draws and 1 loss). In fact they only scored 2 goals in those 5 games.

So Atletico need to beat Barca on the final day of the season now?

Do-able.. but Real have to be favorites for the treble now

I know, should have made myself more clear.

Even though you use the term motivated somewhat problematically there, I would agree with you that in that 1-1 QF, Barcelona completely dominated an extremely hard-working Atletico with some astonishing football. Most people tend to judge performances only by the result, which is beyond inane for me. Barcelona were far superior in that game, and were extremely unlucky to be denied victory by a Diego wondergoal, some last-ditch defending and a great Courtois. Both Iniesta and Neymar were immense in that game.

Real Madrid fans must love Keylor Navas at the moment.

He's been immense all season. Never really noticed him before that though so not sure if he's stepped it up or just went under the radar.

Well the game at Stamford Bridge obviously cost Atleti a lot of energy and they have a paper thin squad. They will be fresh for the remaining games and should win them I feel.

The first leg of the quarter-finals in the CL, specifically after they went behind. That's the only time against Atletico that they looked like they bothered. Of course Atletico deserves credit too for their effort of closing down Barca most of the games, that was pretty remarkable, but when Barca folded themselves out, they were definitely the better team and should have won the game.

He's gotten 17 clean sheets this season. That is really impressive. There are rumours that say Barca want him to replace Pinto next season, but that was some time ago.

Real Madrid could actually do the treble this season but they will need Barca's help.. ahem.
