Kylian Mbappe | Signs new PSG contract until 2025, La Liga says they intend to file a complaint

Not necessarily but it often is. And I was talking about potential agreements with both clubs, if rumours are correct he doesn't want money for image rights, he wants to own them himself and do whatever he wants with it, on that topic the FFF have the same issue.
It's naive to think it's not about Money.

He should stay on a kings ransom and build the PSG name into something meaningful.
Sign the best French talent, built a decent stadium.
Improve financial distribution within the league.

La Liga has taken a big hit since the pandemic began, I personally don’t see the benefit of going there if the money is less. If he wants a challenge in the future head to the PL.
Man Utd would be the biggest challenge ! Come here Kylian…

Seriously, I want a genuine answer. Do you think that these words aren't connected to the rest of the sentence?
Sorry I'm really confused.

I contend that he is a brand first, footballer second.

You chime in asking why?

I give my reasons.

You write this statement;

if rumours are correct he doesn't want money for image rights, he wants to own them himself and do whatever he wants with it, on that topic the FFF have the same issue.

I contend that rumours that he doesn't want money for his image rights is naive.

You then tell me that's not what you wrote? That the rumours are he doesn't want money for his image rights? He just wants to do what he wants with them?

This exceptionally weird behaviour to someone putting their opinion on the subject of Kylian Mbappe is weird.

Are you really trying to prove that he's not focused on football by bringing up the fact that he was on the cover of FIFA?

Mate, find something else, it's not the argument you think it is.
Swing and a miss.

It was a response to someone saying he has no profile. The poster clarified that they meant outside of football.

Do keep up.

It's less about not going to Real Madrid but far more about actually choosing to stay at PSG. Nobody with a semblance of footballing ambition would opt to remain at such an empty shell of a club.

Is that where the sentence starts? But more importantly, "he wants to own them himself and do whatever he wants with it", do you think that whatever excludes making money?

But lets ignore that, if rumours are correct, Mbappé isn't asking for money when it comes to image rights, he doesn't want to give control to either clubs, he wants to control them himself which could for example lead to him making a deal similar to what Ronaldo did with Peter Lim or he has other goals but he allegedly doesn't want to give them at all.

As I said, this is getting ridiculous. FIFA is the n°1 football game, the fact that Mbappé is on the cover, like many other players before him, changes nothing about him being a brand before he is player or whatever nonsense you're trying to spin.

Now it's pretty obvious you guys quickly ran out of sound arguments but lets not get to the points where it's totally absurd shall we?

Basically he isn't staying at PSG for footballing reasons.

Money is a key point for any professional, so there is no point pretending that it's not a major reason. But I can't get around the idea that anyone would think that winning the CL with PSG isn't a motivator and a footballing reason.

Nonsense trying to spin?

Have a word with yourself. My opinion is, this saga is a waste of time and symptomatic of the modern game. The guy has achieved very little in four years (don't give me the WC because that's a lottery of birth). Some pony French league titles and a zero UCL. Yet he's trying to broker contracts that you'd expect from Jordan level dominant athlete MK2.

His camp could keep schtum and work on a new deal regardless but let's be clear, they really want this to be a mega story because it's great for business, the business of maximising his pay, showing how much "content" he can generate, the "engagement" he creates online etc etc.

You have no arguments outside of guessing about his mind or ideas. Basically you're on the level of a tarot card reader.

Basically, you have no idea.

Of course there's money involved but anyone, and I mean ANYONE who talked to, interviewed or investigated Mbappé since he's 17 said he's driven by performances and by achievements. It might not be achievements you understand but considering he's 23, he has plenty of time to leave a mark in a bigger club later. If you take Real Madrid, Modric joined the club when he was 26, Zidane when he was 29 and they're all legends, he's in no rush.

I'm still not convinced he'll stay at PSG but being born in Paris, it's pretty confusing why people here don't think for a second that it would be a huge achievement for him to leave PSG as the best scorer of all time and after giving them their 1st CL title (and the 2nd ever for a french club). It would leave a far bigger mark in France than any CL he'll win with Real Madrid and after all, he's french.

What does it achieve? Oh they finally won the UCL after bricking it every year and they kept spending hundreds of millions to finally get their name on the trophy. Well done. So then what? Once it's been won, he leaves?

Winning the CL with his hometown club and with a french club doesn't matter, writting a page of french football history doesn't matter?

I know the answers, french football and France are beneath you and everyone should leave as soon as possible.

Moaning about a PSG player not going to Real Madrid show a lack of vision from many of you. Have you considered the possibility that if he gives us one or two years, maybe United under Ten Hag could be an option for him in future transfer windows??

Not with those wages. Regarless of where he goes, he'll be on circa €1m a week.

How many top players run down their contract and change their mind in the window when their contract runs out? Maybe its more common than I think, but I can't think of anyone. PSG tried to tie him down for a long time and he declined for a long time. As far as we know he already accepted Real's offer last summer, but PSG refused to sell. The last season was overall not fully satisfying and I am not sure why the next season should be any different, while Real is in the CL final with a few young players playing crucial roles.
Players care about money and thats okay. Its their job. Its not the only thing, but one of the most important aspects. That true for most players and most clubs. In general, fans should just accept it and stop pushing these idiotic alternative theories.

It's going to happen in the near future, a handful of PL top players will earn around 1m per week. These type of wages are already a thing in the US in the NBA and it's starting in the NFL.

Everything is alternative theories until it's backed up with evidence, and at this point everyone is speculating.

You chose the side of the argument that suits your rethoric, which is fine, but you say yourself that PSG tried to tie him down for a long time. Wouldn't it be fair to say that they probably threw at him all the money they could throw last year?
So if he did change his mind, what changed? Nobody knows. It's pretty hard to imagine that PSG tried to renew Mbappé for 3 years now and that they kept a secret stash just in case to change the offer 1 week before he leaves for Real Madrid, it wouldn't make a lot of sense, especially since Mbappé could have signed there since january and it would have been too late for PSG.

What we do know though, is that several media and Mbappé himself reported that something had changed in the negociation. He mentionned "i'm thinking because there's new elements, many things, new parameters and I don't want to make the wrong choice". So what was he talking about? Nobody knows, is it about Real's project? PSG's? Money? Another club (Liverpool?) involved? Nobody knows.

I do think it's pretty unlikely that PSG just woke up 1 week before his decision and said "oh Kylian, we've been trying to extend your contract for years now but guess what, we just found money we didn't know whe had!".

Family pressure + societal pressure + absurd generational wealth seems to have done the trick...

Must be said again that he will only be 25/26 by the end of his contract. He absolutely has more than enough time left for a big move abroad elsewhere even after renewing.

The Qatari's just went all in with making offers he couldn't refuse to save face and not lose their biggest golden goose during their World Cup year

that is actually a fair point.

While I think money is obviously playing a role, I do believe he wants to be a part of the first PSG team that wins the champions league. Hopefully that doesn’t happen for the greedy annoying little prick.

But the major difference here is the big transfer fees that go along with it. Unless we do start to see more 2-3 year deals being signed and more free agent moves happening.

I don't think it's even remotely unlikely that, faced with the prospect of losing their star man to a prestigious 'rival', a club with bottomless pockets and an eye on the optics, has suddenly made an eye-watering last ditch offer to keep Mbappe.

It's exactly what I'd expect, to be honest.

I think that's what most people fail to understand, he's not "wasting his best years", he'll probably be at his prime when he leaves PSG at 25-26 and will still have the time to leave a big mark wherever he goes. He's 23, for most players it's still considered a very early stage in a carreer.

I don't believe we'd give him the salary he wants. What we need are players that play for the badge and not for their brand, image and whatever bullshit their PR agency tells them. I don't know maybe it's a mentality thing and how these footballers have grown up with a silver spoon at their command.

Who's the superstar signing Real Madrid will go for now? Bar Haaland and Mbappe, there doesn't seem to be any high profile superstar in the game right now to fit the bill. Mahrez/Sterling/Gnabry would be underwhelming

That's true but transfer fees are Football specificity and people have been questioning their sense for a while. For top players it makes little sense because it allows clubs/owners to "hide" and exfiltrate money, so I wouldn't be surprised if top players move as free agents more often in the future. But even without it, top clubs can afford both, they have the bad habit to waste a lot of money on far lesser players that earn wildly inflated contracts.

It would have been true hadn't Mbappé be free to sign for Real Madrid since january. He could have litteraly walked into the President's office at PSG and said "Oh btw I just signed for Real Madrid" and PSG's "last ditch offer" wouldn't have existed. He didn't.

So what changed since last summer, i have no idea. It could be several things, but I highly doubt it was only about money because :
1) It wouldn't be logical
2) It would go against pretty much everything we know about Mbappé

I was trying to think of it from this angle myself. Could definitely be part of the allure.

There's also something to be said about just living in Paris for most of your career as a footballer. It's a pretty iconic city. We've seen plenty of top footballers spend many seasons there that would have elevated their resume more elsewhere - our very own Cavani and Ibra first to mind. Ibra doesn't act as if he wasted any of his career there.

Here's hoping that ETH can really turn us around and make United a viable option for him in a few years if Madrid still feel bitter over the situation when his contract is up...

Mahrez or Gnabry would be the smartest signings for them tbh, would address RW with Vinicius having made LW his own and allow rotation with Rodrygo starting to show his promise this season.

Maybe not sexy but it would be shrewd of them given how they'll likely get anoyher year or 2 of world class Benzema.

They can also focus their attention on Tchouameni and taking the nightmare prospect of him going to Liverpool off our hands
