Kylian Mbappe | Signs new PSG contract until 2025, La Liga says they intend to file a complaint

There’s the difference between honouring a contract, knowing that (in all normal circumstances), if another club is interested then they put in a reasonable bid, negotiate, and agree a sale. PSG have shown their hand now.

If you’re a 20yr old and sign a 5yr deal, you’re there for 5yrs no matter what. I appreciate the financial rewards for it, but if Player X wanted to progress their career by moving, they’d effectively be, to quote Ronaldo, ‘enslaved’ to the club.
Mbappe has had no issues progressing in his 4 years at the club, as the current insane bid would indicate.

The insane bid is a combination of Perez wanting a new toy, and the knowledge that the ‘selling’ club isn’t a business, but a PR project. For PSG players aren’t assets they’re commercial commodities. ANY another club in the world (apart from City and Chelsea) accept that bid because they have balance sheets to worry about.

Keep seeing the headline on sky that he’s agreed to sign to Madrid for free next year. Is that just speculation? I presume it can’t be official yet surely?

PSG are all in on the CL this year. That can be the only reason for not taking the 189m.

PSG are surely screwing themselves with this.
Any young ‘generational talent’ would be crazy to sign for them, knowing they’ll essentially be trapped to the length of the contract, with the club rejecting outrageous money for them.

They're screwed either way. Unless he renews for many more years, that is.

The Mbappe transfer was always a bit demented. They paid an insanely overinflated price for an extremely young player. It was almost certain to look bad for them at some point.

The lesson might be "wait until they're 25 before you splurge this much."

That bid wouldn't have come for a player that didn't progress in his time at PSG. So it kind of nullifies the worry that you can't develop at PSG as a young talent, it's just not true regardless of your opinion of the league. However, if you know you want to leave and decide to extend your contract, then that's on you as a player. Mbappe's done nothing wrong, he's honoring his last year of contract, PSG has the chance to cash in on it and don't want to, but I think it's worked out pretty well for Mbappe at PSG, he's made insane money for his age, has had the opportunity to win the CL, is wanted by every club in the world, and will probably leave a free agent. I don't see why other talents wouldn't do the same. Now, granted Mbappe is French and started in Ligue 1, it's easier to keep him there than bring him in the first place, but at this point I'm not putting anything past PSG or the lure they can have on players, and I think it's weird to doubt they could pull it off with anyone out there.

And yet, dormtund also rejected a huge PSG offer (around 180M) for Haaland because, and I quote "Dortmund isn't a bank". Considering they'll loose him for 70M next year, they gave up 110M to keep their player 1 more year. Are they disgusting as well? Psg turned down 165M max because they owe Monaco 35M.
Yes, but Haaland doesn’t want to go to PSG and is not 6 months away of being able to sign with another club. Big, big difference.

Mbappe reject 45M Net aka 1,7 Million per Week for 2 years.

I don't know who's more lunatic PSG refusing 200M , Real offering 200M or Mbappe rejecting 45M net

If Mbappe was still vogue we'd say he's a purist. Right now people seem to see him negatively for it, dude is already getting blamed by some in Madrid for celebrating his goals. He's gonna have fun over there.

Oh did Haaland say that? Must have missed it. Bummer.

Yes he is, anyone paying 70M can get him next summer. But Dortmund didnt want to sell the player that late in the transfer window.

PSG tried to look for replacements for mbappe, they didnt find anyone that would work so instead of paying ridiculous prices for average players like Richarlison, they decided not to sell.

That was a rumour and a question poised to Dortmund Owners, zero confirmation that offer was actually made as far as I am aware and Dortmund are not turning that down, it was all smoke,

So yeah I still stand with PSG are fecking minging and ruining football along with your oil brothers in Manchester

Is he that much better than he was in 2017 when he had a miles better World Cup than he did Euros in 2021 when he pretty much stunk the place out?

I'd say his time at PSG proves nothing more than he was an astounding World Class talent already aged just 18.

Yes he is, he's far more influential in our team's strategy now. That's the reason PSG would rather loose 150+M than selling him now, he's the most important player in the club at the moment (until Neymar decides to play a full season without injuries).

The reason they give zero fecks about 180m is because it’s pocket change to them, they manage assets over 300 fecking billion.
Let’s not start pretending they ever act like an actual football club.

PSG getting involved in a deal with a huge transfer fee : bad PSG, oil and plastic club, they think money can buy everything!

PSG refusing a ridiculous deal for a player with 1 year left because they value the player more than the money offered : bad PSG, oil and plastic club, they should take Real's money!

The salt here is getting ridiculous.

What am I salty over? I’m a United fan, we have a great record v PsG, an incredible transfer window and PSG have never won a tournament that we’ve entered.

Do they give any shits about money or operate anything like a traditional football club? No, that’s just how it is. Not a single other football club besides Man City could refuse 180 million for a player that can sign a pre agreement for free in just 5 months.

If this was Spurs and Kane they would have jumped at 180m for him. If it was Utd and Pogba, the exact same.

Basically any other club would have been jumping at the money.

It's not about valuing the player more than the money, it's because unlike every other club bar 2 in Europe. They can just afford to refuse the money and let him walk for nothing in a year.

Why would anyone here be salty?, its not like we have a chance of getting Mbappe.

You are not a real football club though, and you know it inside. I'm sure you will be loving it though when you win 35 league games this season though.
Football Manager at its finest.

He's in France, he's getting paid very good money and PSG have a significantly better team than the current Madrid side. I can only think he wants to move because he no longer wants to be in Neymar and now Messi's shadow. He wants to be the top dog at Madrid.

I hope he signs a new contract with PSG and gives the middle finger to Madrid. Of all the institutions in football Madrid are by far the most annoying. I'm sick of them and their attitude that they should be entitled to any player they want.

For the people saying PSG should have accepted the money, what should they have accepted it and done with it? The only other player in the world at the level of Mbappe is Haaland and there's no guarantee that he wants to go to PSG. Mbappe is one of the two golden boys in football right now. Players like that are more valuable than money. If Mbappe was a United player I would prefer us to turn down the money and try to convince him to continue on with us rather than sell him as well. There are only so many good players around, and even less at that level. Money isn't worth anything if your team ends up worse at the end of it.

Yes, and the numbers reflect that.

PSG are nutters for refusing 200 mil for a player in the last year of his contract, yet RM are supposedly the biggest club in the world™ for stumping up 200 mil for a player in his last year of contract and who wants to join them :wenger:
Some narratives die hard

220m for Mbappe would have been insane.

If Mbappe is worth 200m, what is the price of a prime Cr7/ messi in today's market?

Why would PSG accept it? Whats the point of dumping a mere 200m euros onto an infinite pile of euros?

They dont need money and rather have Mbappe for one more year. They could even afford to let Mbappe rot in the reserves for a full year. Finacial fair play is a joke to them anyway.

As a good muppet I have to admit that I am deeply disappointed.
Disappointed above all because it is not a signing that started two weeks ago. This was the conclusion to some decisions that we knew were mainly focused on this signing.
Brahim, Achraf, Reguilón, Varane, Óscar Rodríguez, Odegaard, etc. 560 days without a single signing to build an offer, which apparently did not even have a response

I am very pro Florentino and I will continue to be. We wanted a super crazy offer and he has made it (Yes, I know "why 200 now if he comes free in a year")
although he should have been more cautious with his optimism in his leaks to Pedrerol.

As a fan it is gratifying to know that he has turned down such great offers to play in our club. Apparently the last one is 45 million net ?
If that's their offer in September, what will they do at the end of December? 60 net and a palace ?
I don't know if at that point he will be able to resist

And espeically for an oil state club, 180 million is nothing. Probably make that much in a day.

PSG aren't actually as dominant in Ligue 1 as Juventus and Bayern were in their respective leagues. The most they've won in a row is 4. They reached CL finals with Mbappe which is not trivial even if they didn't win.
Depends how you see it. In terms of overall trophy count, PSG has won 26 trophies in France over past 8 years. They are by far most dominate side in the league, not only on trophies amount, but also on money side (overall spending, players sakary) and overall squad strength in relative to their league opponents.

Over past 8 years:
- PSG won 26 trophies in France
- Bayern won 17 trophies in Germany
- Juventus won 16 trophies in Italy

I think he no longer wants to play in farmers league where currently ranked 6th. He wants to play on proper top league (LL at 2nd) for a team of his dream.

I don't think he will. Just like Neymar and Verratti he'll end up signing. Probably as the world's best paid athlete. PSG probably going to shower his family with gifts too. And if the carrot doesn't do it, the whip will.

He will not be allowed to leave until after the WC in Qatar.

Do they?

His best season ever stats wise is still clearly 2018-2019, which is more a reflection of just how ridiculously dominant PSG were that season in Ligue 1, scoring 105 goals.

His goals per game ratio is actually going down season by season.

Just watching him play, he hasn't progressed much in 3 years now. What's worse is things like his touch, instead of tightening it up he has become comfortable with it being a little loose because it never gets punished in France. He needs to leave and he knows it.

I don’t understand what has Mbappe done to justify that much worth of transfer value and salary. Sure it’s buyers market and he is young and talented, but he only scored in farmers league and he flopped badly in Euro.

Yeah because there's two cups in France. PSG won 4 league titles in a row, lost, then 3 in a row, then lost again. Juventus did 9 league titles in a row and Bayern has done 8 in a row, more impressive by all accounts than padding up the numbers with the 'league cup.'

I would say in terms of league titles, PSG lost the last one due to their own failure/flopped, rather than on strength of their opponents. And they loss in 16-17 due to Mbappe playing for Monaco. But apart from those 2 particular occasions, they have been sweeping all kinds of domestic trophies in France. And let’s compared to their closest rivals/opponents to give a clearer picture:

France 13-21: (past 8 years)
PSG: 26 trophies (won 26 out of 32, 81%)
Monaco: 1 trophy
Lille: 1 trophy
Rennes: 1 trophy
Guingamp: 1 trophy
Strasbourg: 1 trophy
Saint-Etienna: 1 trophy

If this is not biggest domination in domestic football, I don’t know what else is. Basically they are guarantee 4 trophies per season, except with some odd years of failure/flopped, they only managed to win 3.

And let’s compared to Juventus and Bayern:

Italy 13-21:
Juventus : 16 trophies (won 16 out of 24, 66%)
Lazio: 4 trophies
Napoli: 3 trophies
Inter: 1 trophy

Germany 13-21:
Bayern: 17 trophies (won 17 out of 24, 70%)
Dortmund: 4 trophies
Wolfsburg: 2 trophies
Frankfurt: 1 trophy

Domination yes, but not to the extent of PSG.

Of course PSG won more trophies. They had 1 more to win. Over the last 8 years juventus won 15 trophies out of 24 possible. Bayern 17 out of 24. PSG 25 out of 31. Would be 19/24 if you exclude the extra trophy from the count. And here's the count not including the supercups: Juventus 12/16, Bayern 12/16, PSG 12/16

PSG with the fewest league wins

PSG obviously don’t need money. £200m is pennies for Nassel Al-Khalaifi. He has £8 billion and counting every day. I think they believe they can strong arm him in to signing a new contract.

From a footballing perspective he has to leave if he wants to win a Ballon d'Or. It will be interesting to see how well Real Madrid do this season. They are in transition and that squad doesn’t look particularly great. Benzema is 33, Modric is 35. Kroos is 31. Marcelo is 33. Bale is 32. Casemiro and Carvajal are 29. Ramos and Varane have left.

This may come back to bite me but they are 3-5 years off being a force again. I know they won all those CL, but they will need some serious coaching and (cough) government funding to get back to where they are.

Anyway, unless something drastically changes I think Mbappe will be PL bound when his contract ends.
