Kylian Mbappe | PSG

He had an off night but he's only 21, he'll have plenty more finals to redeem himself in the future. I don't think you can read into that performance too much, like others have said he's been rushed back from injury. He's a very good player, still has the world at his feet.

Amazing how so many have written him off after probably only watching this one game of him all season! He's an incredible player. One of best in world.

Just my opinion, but the comparisons of Mbappe with Rashford are crazy. Mbappe is a different level to Rashford and its not even close.

A lot of idiots in this thread should read this. He wasn't at 100% of his abilities. He wasn't even expected to play vs Atalanta
Why so defensive? He missed two sitters tonight when the chips were down, that’s all

He was rushed back from a 3-6 week ankle injury to play those games. Under normal circumstances he'd have gotten longer to rehabilitate the injury and sharpen up ahead of returning to action. Most players who are rushed back ahead of schedule look rusty upon their return. We see it every two years at World Cups and Euros, and it's particularly challenging for strikers to come back firing full cylinders - look how long the likes of Kane and Rooney have taken to find their finishing after any lay-off. And even then he came off the bench against Atalanta to almost single-handedly turn the game around.
Agreed. Some of the comments tonight are insane.

I watch him every single week in Ligue 1. He misses the chances he had tonight fairly frequently

The difference is that he gets 7 or 8 per game as opposed to 2 or 3 like he did tonight..

Dont think fitness would impact his finishing and his runs were as good as usual.

In that case we'll take him at utd for £40m as no one else will want him.

He is a very similar player to Rashford. He is a lot more spectacular in his athleticism and has a bit more refined technique at high speed but there isn't that much between them. Two very good players with similar style. Whoever can iron out the small inconsistencies in their game, will end up the more successful player. I think they even look alike.

Mbappe's technical ability is easily better than Rashford. His understanding of the game and application on the pitch is far better too. The only thing Rashford better at is his ball striking from distance.

Not a slight on Rashford but Mbappe is a special special talent.

How would you say his technique has improved over the last couple of seasons?

Ill argue the technical ability. I think Rashfords passing, little slide rule passes etc are better than Mbappes. Rashford is getting a lot better at that to the point theres threads on here arguing that his lack of dribbling is hurting the side.
I think technical ability is where Mbappe falls down a little bit. He wont be a top class 9 because of it since he gots lost in the crowd a little bit but leave PSG and learn the inside forward position at the elite level.
I get the feeling that a lot if fans who constantly praise him sees 6 or 7 games of his a year. Its why the same World Cup etc games are constantly mentioned

Seriously talented kid, one games won't change that but he should considet where he wants to play his career because romanticism aside it is highly unlikely he will win the CL with a French team.

It’s obvious we are joking. White text not even needed.
This. People getting offended on behalf of Mbappe for what are clearly jokes and tongue in cheek comments are showing some weird level of insecurity.

Though I'd say if half of the same posters in this thread understanding off games happens and defending Mbappe(from what seems to be jokes which they somehow missed because they got busy getting offended and defensive) would extend the same courtesy to our own players, this place would be less toxic and our players wouldn't be getting half the hate and ridicules they get daily on these boards.

Hope posters show that same energy and passion defending our own players when everything aren't being executed to perfection.

I agree with the caf, fraud, PSG would be lucky to swap him for Bale. Definitely should do that

There are threads about his lack of dribbling simply because he couldn't dribble. It not because his passing is getting better therefore the lack of dribbling. Mbappe is by far the more devastating dribbler.

Passing is neither Mbappe nor Rashford's defining ability. Both of them are just competent at it and nothing spectacular.

I don't want to make this sound like I'm bashing our own players. There's a gap but its not very big. There's still plenty of time for Rashford to catch up.

Mbappe is still a talent though same as Rashford. I've seen games played at a very high level where Rashford has shown tremendous understanding of the game and application and many times he has been the best player on the pitch in those games. I've also seen him struggle to do that consistently, even against lesser teams. I think Mbappe put together a continuous run of form for longer at a younger age which usually does indicate a higher calibre player, but as I've said it's still up in the air as they're still both so young. I wouldn't rule anyone out.

Mbappe's dribbling is not all that, he is a bit better at rashford in it but I wouldn't call him a devastating dribbler. Like someone mentioned above, what makes him far head of rashford is his understanding of the game rather than their skillset.

I think the mistake a lot of people are making with him is that they're assessing him as an out and out striker, which he is not and really has never been. His best quality has never been finishing, and the Henry comparisons have always been misplaced. He's much more of a creator than an outright finisher for me.

I remember when people used to say (me included) that Ronaldo hid in the big games! Back then Ronaldo did have off games and didn't always do the business.

Mbappe is still a puppy. His performance tonight though was shit and so was Neymar.

Mbappé is a very good passer actually. It's not his defining strenght, but as demonstrated both tonight and against Leipzig and Atalanta, it's a very dangerous aspect of his game

He really is remarkably similar to Cristiano Ronaldo

Theres many a post on here praising his improvment on the ball. His interchanging with Shaw to constantly get him to the byline or little slide passes to Martial have been a joy to see

Very talented player, absolutely rapid and very skillful. Think he isnt as clinical in front of goal though as some other top strikers. Had an off day tonight but he is 21 and is a top player.

Total flop of a player. PSG would swap him with Lingard in a heartbeat

Please please make this happen

These comparison to Mbappe always end up badly. While the Caf thinks Mbappe is perfect and the second coming thus making him overrated int that sense he's still a better player than Rashford. I think this game has allowed the opportunity for some to now do the other way and under rate him. Scoring is never the easiest thing to do, for any player out there, so missing a couple of chances doesn't take away from a player overall abilities.

He literally put it on a plate for Choupo Moting to score.

Neymar was also good in that game but missed massive chances, particularly the one in the first minutes. Mbappe came on and really stretched Atalanta and created things despite not really being fit. They threw him on as a gamble and it paid off.
Yeah I thought his presence really unsettled Atalanta.

Mbappé was still way more dangerous than honorary ballon d'or 2020 Lewandowski.

His misses were a bit worse but bit he created much more.

He's obviously still a phenomenal young player but that was a very poor display. Should have done much better with his chances. Didn't really force Neuer into any difficult saves either.

Lewandowski was very poor. But that doesn't change the fact that so was Mbappe. He did create more but he is a winger /wide forward and hence expected to.

Also, does anyone think he was a bit too individualistic last night? Didn't seem to pass it enough and play in tandem with others such as Neymar.
