Kylian Mbappe | PSG

Messi was the best player in the world at 21 showing GOAT ability but at 20 Mbappé is more proven than any forward since R9.

I watched a compilation of Mbappe vs Messi/Ronaldo when they were Mbappe's age. Honestly, it was an eye-opener in the sense that I completely forgot how cool Ronaldo and Messi were at that age. They were fecking flying down the pitch. Their highlights looked more impressive than Mbappe's.

Mbappe is overrated. Don't really know what else to say about the guy. Just haven't seen anything about him that's makes me say he's awesome.

Yeah we know, nothing special and plays in a farmers league. I guess that, in order to be rated properly, he would need to score during a world cup final, or against big teams like Juventus, Liverpool, Bayern, Man Utd, City, Dortmund... or even obliterate argentina on his own.

Wait??? He did??? Yes, at 20 years old.

Mbappe is one of the few players who doesn't look all that great in compilations.

On the other hand

Mbappé even had more at 17.

Also, interesting that Ronaldo didn't score in his first 25 CL games. His first came in 2005 and his 2nd didn't come till that return leg against Roma when United won 7-1. Since then, he's scored 120.

On the other hand

Mbappé even had more at 17.

And Rooney I believe had 4 (3 in debut, and one in the following season).

He is ahead of them in development curve, although Messi - unlike him - struggled with injuries when he was young, but the talent was there for everyone to see.

I really can't understand why his technical ability is being questioned? this lad has the lot.
His techique and dribbling is a bit lacking if you compare it with Messi or R9. I understand that is a very high standard being compared to, that's just the level he's at for his age.
One of the best ever 20 y.o.

It's still excellent by any regular standards.

That's why I'm actually glad that people use these players when they try to be negative about Mbappé. I mean Messi isn't even normal among the absolute best, he is casually exceptional.

That's just my opinion though.
Maybe some folks here actually think his technical ability is just above average by normal standards...

Don't think people try to be negative about him. He is compared to these players so naturally he'll be held too much higher standards than other young players. You can't claim "he' s better than Messi and Cristiano at the same age" or "he'll soon take over from them" and then proceed about how unfair it is that he is compared to the very best in the next sentence.

I haven't made that claim and didn't say that it was unfair. I'm glad because the standards are extremely high.

A brilliant player in general - a superb one considering his age. I hope he never sustains a serious injury, as one of his key assets is his explosivity, and a serious injury might make him lose that key element to his play.

He scored around 80 pro goals already, and he turned 20 two months ago!

There's no such thing as a great player without great doubters. I remember Messi was doubted because of his thigh and various muscular issues when he was younger. CR7 was called a choker, and someone who could only score against the small teams and was nowhere to be found whenever the big games came around, Mbappe is being doubted as well and it's normal with the massive hype around him. I don't have any doubts that he'll be an all-time great player though. His mentality and ability will make him unstoppable, especially given how much margin for progression he still has and despite that he is so far and beyond ahead of anything Messi and CR7 have done at the same age. Only R9 has scored more than Mbappe by the same age, and hadn't won quite as much (didn't even play in the WC he won in 94). You can doubt all you want, but when your statistics and accomplishments put you in such elite company already, there's nothing else to say really.

Ronaldinho the best player in world football at the time told us This little kid next to him was better than him. We laughed but he was right. Neymar ain’t saying that sh!t about Mbappe; and that’s all I have to say about these numeros he did this better then them at his age and ballon d’or etc etc drivel. He’s extremely ‘exciting’ but he’s not special.

Ever thought Neymar might just be a bit of a prat? :D The guy has a serious record of it. I'd be much more interested in hearing from a Cavani/Thiago Silva/Veratti than Neymar.

They got nothing to say about him either. This was party, hellocaptor Ronaldinho. He didn’t have to say anything to be honest. I’m sure if asked they’ll bug him up but read what Ronaldinho said about Messi or what Henry said about Messi I’m training. That’s world class, I like Mbappe but let’s give him credit when he earns it, not because he looks like the continental Michael Owen.

Mbappe is maybe a kid who does not feel as conformable perfuming the moves say Ronaldo did at a big level.
No , it's because He matured earlier than Ronaldo and realised that fancy tricks is for PlayStation not for actual football, Ronaldo did realize it later.

You mean the second youngest Balon d'Or winner of all time?

& what more does he need to do? He's scored versus pretty much every big team in Europe, as well as being one of the players of the tournament in a World Cup winning French team. The kid just oozes quality, & is the closest thing to R9 I've seen since R9 himself. He'll go on to win more, I'll bet anything on it.

Mbappe had 0 cl goals until February 2017.
He scored his first at 18 year old and 3 months.

He cannot do what Ronaldo used to do.

Also Neymar sure as hell ain't gonna say Mbappe is better than him because he's absolutely nowhere near the Brazilian as a player

Well Michael Owen won it at 21 so he best get a move on. He’s running out of time and he won’t win it this year. Yet again one of the players of the tournament the guys you mentioned were already players of the tournament hence there status. He wasn’t even the top 3 players against us last week.

*Realised you was actually talking about Owen.

Sorry, but this is hyperbole. Fat Ronny had arguably the best mixture of skill, natural abilty, speed, balance and strength of anyone to ever play the game. He was literally a bulldozer with the feet of a ballerina. Mbappe has nowhere near close to the same kind of qualities.

No offense you are on a wind-up here, right?

A few more seasons at PSG then a world record transfer to RM...wouldn’t surprise anyone. It would be interesting to see him in a more competitive league week in week out.

I'm pretty sure he will not leave the PSG before having broken some records at PSG and L1 like the top scorer in history L1 held by Onnis with 299 goals, Mbappé is already 48 goals

And he will do everything to try to win the CL with PSG, win with a club like Real who has already won many times especially in recent history doesn't interest him much he prefers to write the story with the PSG.

I don't think he cares about being the top scorer in Ligue 1, but agreed the Champion's league is definitely his goal with PSG. I don't know if that's really possible with the team badly needing reinforcements in midfield and without the best player on the team in Neymar, but with Mbappe I wouldn't be that shocked if he helped manage it over the next couple of years.

This thread winds me up everytime I hear him compared to Messi, Ronaldo and R9.

It's an apt comparison despite the fact that it triggers you. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think your issue is with the aesthetics of his game and the fact that you probably don't see a huge margin of progression for Mbappe, which I've read since he was 18 years old on here, and I think that's very wrong as he's shown this season already. I honestly think he is only scratching the surface of what he will do in five years time. He is far from a finished product but he's already massively ahead of CR7 and Messi at that same age and there is no one, including Aguero or anybody else that has come close, in any league, CL, or WC in decades outside of R9 who is the greatest forward I've ever seen.

I respect your belief in him i just don’t see it. History proves otherwise and unless he’s something we will never witness again like Ronaldo and Messi but even then there was Maradona and Pele before that. This kid is going to be along with your Anelka’s, Rooney’s, and Owen’s as in these will be his best years (I’m excluding injuries obviously neither would I want injuries to harm his career). Players of his age will only get better.

Mbappé criticism/questioning on here also triggers me. He’s a phenom. Will very likely be an all time great.

Another couple of goals today by the way.

Yep but he missed a lot of chances too. He can improve in his ratio shoot/goal

Farmers league, needs to prove himself in big games, just a pace merchant, etc, etc.

All nonsense to me. The kid is brilliant.

Maybe so but his stats in terms of Shots per Goal are one of the best from the top 10 scorers in the top 5 leagues:

In terms of Shots on Target per Goal, the players you'd expect to be at the top are there - the complete clinical centre-forwards in Cavani and Aguero.

Cavani stats are monster level, by far the most efficient striker in the world. If he hits the target, it is a goal.

Krzysztof Piatek has 18 league goals but because they were split between two clubs, whoscored didn't have him in the top 10. For those curious, Piatek's overall league stats are:

Goals: 18
Shots: 89
Shots on Target: 38
SpG: 4.9
SoTpG: 2.1

This used to be the opposite for him or am I not remembering things right?

Since hes playing in a farmers league can anyone get comparison of the number of champions league goals he has compared to Rooney,Ronaldo etc.

Edit just saw the champions league goals tweet.
Turns out he is the real deal.

He was always very efficient. He just lost a couple of chances against Chelsea which happened to be the only game of him Caf saw, and somehow a legend was born that Cavani misses many chances.
