Kylian Mbappe | PSG

You obviously don't know much about Ligue 1 it's actually the other way around. Ligue 1 teams have poor offenses and only a couple of coaches actually try something against PSG but defensively it's usually really decent, Mbappé would actually have more space and time in most league since a lot of teams play against PSG in Ligue 1 with the whole double decker bus parked.

In the last 2 years of European competition other French teams have conceded 117 goals for an average of 1.8 goals per game. They scored 1.1 per game so it's not like they're free scoring either, and that's the best of Ligue 1.

For comparison English teams in Europe last year conceded 71 in 73, or 1 goal per game. They also scored 138 / 1.9 per game. I would assume Spain has similar figures.

No player is getting more space in England or Spain than they're getting in France. They might play a defensive game but they're not very good at it.

It's a myth supporters of Ligue 1 create - it's not a really enjoyable league to watch, teams are conservative it's true but it doesn't amount to actually very good defensive teams. The level of defence is much better in the PL and La Liga, just because the level of talent is overall better (and I'd argue the overall level of coaching is too).

Martial's first few games at MU are where he's looked the best to me.
There's a reason why he's disappeared from everyone's radar.
Disappeared from whose radar, exactly?

We are going to throw you out of the country. :D

I'm not sure what good throwing me out of Spain is going to do, but feel free :D
In France for example he's well and truly forgotten.
I mean, that's blatantly untrue - the PL is widely followed in France and RMC will often specifically focus on him. Also, French online sports media will often write articles. I recall there being a very long and flattering piece in L'Equipe a month ago on him and his season. There's absolutely no way, by any stretch of the imagination, he is "well and truly forgotten", you're spouting absolute nonsense.

I wouldn't praise PL for the level on the center backs, it's seems that most teams can only afford 1 good center back at best.

Heres a stat from BT. Since 18/19 Rashford has scored as many CL goals at their place as Mbappe has.
Ive long questioned Mbappe on here, I think he needs space to fully express himself and his close control lets him down when back to goal or double marked.
Id have him here in a heartbeat but he isnt worth the fee demanded nor is he this perennial Balon Dor winner that he is made out to be. I wouldn't have him over Mane, Salah, Aubamayang etc.
He needs a move. 1 goal in knockout games in his PSG career simply isnt good enough (against us funnily enough)

His speed is terrifying but I am not exactly sure what else he offers as special after that nowadays.

Obviously, a still very young player who can improve more.

I appreciate that he's still only 21 but I can't see how or where he's improved since he broke through at Monaco. That was a couple of years ago.

I know they went to the CL finals last year & even though I dont rate him as high as some - i think PSG genuinely play like a bunch of world class individuals.

I compare the way Monaco played during that breakout year vs PSG - I can see a certain style in Monaco's gameplay that I sometimes struggle to see at PSG even if they try.

I think it holds him back a little. Even for France the whole pass to Giroud as a target man thing seems more systematic than some of the football PSG play against the bigger teams at times.

Martial also had the same thing until last season. Albeit his form isn't great right now but he made a big jump last year.

PSG always look like they play off the cuff, in an attacking sense. It also doesn't help that he plays in such completely dominant team on a weekly basis and they can coast by just on individual quality.

He needs get out of that league. The fact that Neymar has spent 3 years of his prime there is bizarre enough, it would be a shame if Mbappe spent years if his career in such an uncompetitive environment.

Dunno what all the fuss is about. He’s basically a faster version of Daniel James.

He is amazing. Like all (young) players he won’t look a world beater regularly. I agree he needs to join La Liga or PL within the next couple of years to further improve.

I feel for him that his partners are Neymar and Di Maria. He looks like the nice guy between the three.

It's funny seeing how different Utd fans rate their own players here. :)
Martial is back to his best last season thanks to repositioning as a false 9. You do not watch him if you think he disappeared from everyone's radar. It's the contrary. Right now, he has started slowly, but he is on an upward trajectory again and he has plenty to show. Not sure why you would even think otherwise.

He has a bit more than that, he has some technical abilities that sets him apart.

Didn't he say recently that he admired Rashford's confidence? Well today, he must admire him even more now. And we are talking about a Rashford that was a bit clumsy today, and yet... he scored a fantastic goal because they made the mistake of giving him space.

I hope that makes him think about Manchester United as a potential destination next year. We could use that Pogba right side ball to Mbappe combination. Rashford for the left side, Greenwood / Martial in the middle.

Since the CL final, he’s been called overrated to the high Heaven. Don’t think he is personally. He’s brilliant. I’d take him any day of the week.

This forum goes on and on about how amazing Mbappe is, but every time I see him, he is average or just doing a job. Im not sure if I am just unlucky to catch him on bad days because I only really see some of his games in the CL, or maybe people see PSG smashing the likes of Dijon or Orient.

If you were to do a poll who is better Kane or Mbappe, Mbappe would win hands down, yet as an example Kane against West Ham pretty much carried Spurs, he was different class. The assist to Son for the first goal with a great long pass, 2 goals, the first goal was pure sauce with the cheeky nutmeg on Rice before firing it in. And a great header peeling away at the far post for the second, blocked more shots defending his own goal than the CB's for Spurs and chipped in with clearing headers. As many tackles as Hojbjerg their DM and Sanchez their CB when tracking back. Would have had another assist if Bale didnt fluff his lines one on one with the keeper.

There's Ikoné in squad, that's not a very high bar.
Deschamps specifically mentioned his season and his form last season when he took him back. After that, things need time but he can be a top class forward since he's going to lead the line for Manchester United again this season.

He seems to have stagnated, obviously he's really good but I dont think he has improved much since his breakout season.

He's still young and has all the potential in the world but if he doesn't improve in the next years he won't be around the Ballon D'or contenders as expected.

I'd take a prime Robben ahead of him. :wenger:

European stats have nothing to do with league play. Teams that qualify for European competition aren't the ones that park the bus in the league and play negative football.
And those that do it well they're better at doing it than anyone in England is, that's their football DNA.
Hence why PSG will never get close to 100 points because they'll always have games where they have to play against 10 men in the box clearing all crosses.

I do think French teams are better than what we think but PSG dominates the league.

2014/2015 - 1st with 83 pts, 2nd Lyon was at 75 pts.
2015/2016 - 1st with 96 pts, 2nd Lyon was at 65 pts.
2016/2017 - 2nd with 87 pts, 1st Monaco had 95 pts and 3rd Nice had 87 pts.
2017/2018 - 1st with 93 pts, 2nd Monaco was at 80 pts.
2018/2019 - 1st with 91 pts, 2nd Lille was at 75 pts.
2019/2020 - 1st with 68 pts after 27 games, 2nd OM was at 56 pts after 28 games.
With the ppg, they would have been at 95 pts and OM would have been at 76 pts.

The reason why PSG doesn't hit 100 pts is simply because they just lose all taste for the competition after a certain point.
For me, it's a mental strength issue. It doesn't tell that French teams are "better" than English teams at playing a low block. No really.

Just to illustrate my point, in the same period, Bayern has won the Bundesliga with 79 pts, 88 pts, 82 pts, 84 pts, 78 pts, 82 pts.
Yet, it's "easier" to score in Germany, teams are willing to score goals and all. So it's not because it's "harder" to score that the point tally doesn't blow 100 pts.
For me, that's irrelevant.

I do think French teams are tactically more disciplined than what people think. No problem with that.
But do they defend better than PL clubs? I don't think so.

Still the same Mbappe. Absolutely rapid and he comes up with some brilliant bits of skill, but most of the time he takes a bit too long or his touch is a bit too loose, which can only be down to not having to improve it. He has got to leave or we will lose one of the major talents of this generation.

Same applies to the PL. The Burnleys and West Broms are never in Europe either, and they are masters of parking the bus. There really is nothing Ligue 1 teams do better than PL teams. Other than losing to us.
