Kylian Mbappe | Merci.

Someone asked the question a while ago and the general mood was that people maybe have a look our curiosity but not really watch, but Mbappe, the current best player in the world, going there would 100% attract millions of eyeballs around the world.
Still don't think I would bother. We were blessed to watch Messi and Ronaldo got at it for 15 years in the CL, week in, week out. As good as Mbappe is, i think only something like the Messi / Ronaldo dynamic could draw my attention.

There'll likely be another Mbappe level player in a few years somewhere else.

Easy to say on the internet when you're not actually faced with the choice.

I don't believe for a second that Kylian Mbappe would give two shits about anything related to Saudi Arabia given the money on offer. Maybe he's a better human being than we know but it's doubtful.
Don't think it's about ethics, but the fact that it would be a joke to waste one of your best prime years in a circus league. When Ronaldo did it was hilarious and he was done.

It is but what other perspective can we have?

Mbappe is already filthy rich and we will end his career with money coming out of his ears. Every year of his footballing legacy especially during his prime should mean the world to him. At club football he doesn’t really have any big achievements since winning the league with Monaco and has spent all of thus far in a league that isn’t elite.

Why should it?

We can get all romantic about it but it's just as easy (easier) to imagine he doesn't give a shit about a footballing 'legacy'. He won't care what you and I think of him for spending a year in Saudi rather than in Europe, he's already proven that by staying at PSG in the first place.

There's filthy rich and then there's this, which is honestly wipe your arse with a million quid for the rest of your life money. It might not feel like a difference to me and you but it will to him.

Surely this is win-win for Mbappe? Plays, makes an absolute fortune and goes to Madrid anyway for free

He wants Real Madrid not Al Hilal ffs, just stand your ground Mbappe and leave for free next season.

The last thing we need is PSG been armed with £250 million.

Oh right. Sounds entirely made up, though. Not even Saudi clubs are that dumb.
Is it dumb though? Already you're seeing people on here say they will watch Saudi League if Mbappe goes there?

He will go there, bring more attention, say some nice things about the league, go to Real and they'll be affiliated with him to a degree afterwards. Saudi League can say it had one of the world's best players there for a time and you never know, he might end up there when he's another 30 year old looking for that last big contract. It's stupid non commercial money but I guess they don't care.

Again, a joke to us fans who want to be romantic about football and 'legacies' whereas it's a completely sound financial move for what is just a job to someone who has already won the World Cup, already played with perhaps the GOAT, etc. I really don't think professional footballers give even a millionth of a toss about it as we do.

Sitting on the bench in an unhappy place when you could be scoring double hattricks to sheer adoration for hundreds of millions more?

That UEFAlona offer is hilarious. How are they going to pay for him and to pay him? With Spotify subscriptions?

If he pushes hard enough then they'll have to sell to Real Madrid this season, just not for £250 million.

Why would any top club pay over 200m for a year of his services?
The bid is so high because its that important to them to secure arguably the worlds best player to the Saudi league, he will be their flagship player.

I know why their doing it, but I quoted somebody who said all the big clubs should be in for him.

Can you really be a flagship player for one season? Seems to be a waste of money but they have plenty of it I guess.

He has a contract with the club, they can decide if they want to accept a lower bid or not, it's not really in his hands.

No, but he can tell them he's not going to SA in a million years, then it's over to them if they want the humilation of letting him leave for free next season, and also pay him tens of millions to sit on the bench all season.

Is he that good in the CL to be treated as the best in the world? I never saw him being worthy of a balon dor after season at club level.

Surely psg have called a favour in for a club to put an offer in as a marker in the sand to what they see as fair value. Put a bit of pressure on mbappe and Real Madrid who are probably working to get the price down by causing a bit of drama.

He won’t agree personal terms with a Saudi team.

I mean I barely watch the French league now and it’s readily available on BT every weekend, so I probably wouldn’t watch either apart from maybe just checking it out curiosity if it’s televised on a UK channel, but I’m sure there will be loads of people who will go out of their way to watch if he goes there.

How incredibly boring... why would you ever want to play in a league where getting double hat-tricks is the norm?

I know why their doing it, but I quoted somebody who said all the big clubs should be in for him.

Their goal is to make the league a legitimate option for players in the future and getting a TV deal with a big international company. These moves have nothing to do with football as we know it.

They're loaded and I doubt they give a damn about perceived humiliation. When you go to an oil club with near unlimited wealth, your options for leaving are severely reduced.

A year in that league will do no good for his already imperfect development. The guy had the raw ability to be the next CR I'm sure of it, but nowhere near the same drive.

To be clear though if I were him - I'd take the almost a Billion quid in a heartbeat. You'd be mad not to, imagine the good you could do with it along with affording all the nonsical millionaire trappings alongside.

Maybe they believe they can convince him to extend his contract. Al-Hilal is Saudis and Asian most successful football team. They area 4 times Asian UCL champions, and made it to the club world cup final this season after beating flamengo and scored 3 against Real Madrid, and also of the 11 players lined up to beat WC winners Argentina, nine were from Al Hilal.

I just don't get the people saying he should just take the money from saudis. Isn't like he is going to be poor if he doesn't. He already has made an absolute shit ton, stands to make a pretty hefty bonus for staying with psg this year, and then will undoubtedly get a huge sign on bonus from Madrid next year should he choose that route. I'm not sure how much money he has made but barring him going out and buying an absolute fleet of airplanes and megayachts I couldn't imagine he would be ever short on money at this immediate point, without taking into account a penny from future earnings

Goes against all reports that they are 200% determined not to let him leave for free in 2024.

Isn’t he currently beefing with PSG, threatening to sit out the whole of next season to force a move to Madrid as a free agent. Real Madrid have zero incentive to table any offer right now and no other club can outbid the Saudis, so if your choice is sit on the bench for a year or go make the best part of a fecking billion dollars for one season in Saudi Arabia before being allowed to join Madrid in 12 months, I don’t see it as a difficult choice.

£19 a second, £1100 a minute, £68,500 an hour, £1.64 Million a day, £50 Million a month, £600 Million a year.

What are the Saudi’s getting out of it?

We're all talking about it. It generates headlines which feeds interest.

People will watch the league. The more people watch it, the more viable it becomes as a genuine threat to the traditional hegemony which then feeds into more money coming back to them, maybe to the point the league pays for itself in the future (unlikely but that's where it'll be headed in their vision, certainly to pay for tourism and so on)

People will completely forget about any ethical concerns whatsoever for shiny new things so they might as well give it a crack. Especially when they know that nobody can or will actually do anything about those ethical concerns.

That literally is time is money.

Imagine being given a £20 note every second. It’s absurd.

Exactly what they are getting right now. Every media outlet reporting it, we’re all talking about the league. If he moves, millions will start following the league because of the likes of Mbappe.

We live in an era where it’s never been more Player FC than in history. Many fans follow players rather than teams nowadays.

I never understood the Chinese Super League model either, the money they’re giving to players doesn’t correlate to a feasible return on their investment.

They’re literally burning money and honestly, I think these exuberant shows of wealth just puts their human rights record in the spotlight even more.

Thats not the loan fee, thats a stupid transfer fee from a saudi club. There was a seperate tweet about loaning him, which would be a lower figure and more realisitic, hence a number of clubs are now interested in the loan.

It’s very much the Floyd Mayweather post retirement model. The McGregor fight was a huge draw purely as a novelty. Every fight since has gradually made less and less money and had increasingly fewer PPV/Ticket sales.

People would watch the first few games featuring Mbappe before realising the League isn’t competitive enough for the games to be compelling and the viewership would fall of a cliff.

A year of playing against dross though. It's not an easy decision given the euros next season. I doubt any of the big nation players based in the Saudi league would make their national team squads. The quality of opposition is just nowhere near the necessary level to prepare for the tournament.

If he dropped a £20 note on the floor, it wouldn't be worth his time to bend down and pick it up!
