Kyle Walker

Glad to see that Levy still isn't selling to the direct rivals.

I call him Kyle Wanker by the way, he'll fit in perfectly.

Another stupidly overrated English player. That said, I'm sure he'll be 'okay' for the majority of games.

And £50m means feck all to City.

Are City interested in Phil Jones by any chance?

On the basis of two new fullbacks and an unknown goalkeeper.... ok then.

No. On the basis of getting two very good fullbacks, and a goalkeeper who is probably the best talent around with Donnarumma.

This is probably City settled in these 3 areas for many many years to come.

I actually really like Walker... £50m seems crazy but to a club like City does it really matter what the fee is? Addresses a need and you know exactly what you're buying.

The fee isn't as terrible as some people are making out especially given the realities of today's market. City are getting a good RB at a good age who will suit the way Pep wants to play.

So is Uniteds defence, they're defence is no better than ours nor is there goalkeeper anywhere near as good as ours. So do we cruise the league too?

Anyone know actual fee - I just keep saying over £50m?

For me he is best RB in the league but I find him a weird Guardiola signing given, as many have pointed out, his biggest weakness is on the finesse/football brain side of things. Something you surely attribute with the way Pep claims he is trying to play at City.

If our goalkeeper and defence was enough, we wouldn't have finished 6. City are improving their weak spots with players that suits Pep.

Let's hope they don't replace Bambi on ice / Stones anytime soon.

What I would say is, Walker has improved remarkably since Poch took over. I'm not saying he's a defensive coach but his teams are very well disciplined defensively, and Walker has clearly benefited from that.

Fingers crossed a return to a much more offensive coach (or more, defensively indisciplined) we might see walker return to the crash bang performances that got him his bad rep in the first place.

I rate him. He'll be a good player for them and obviously knows the league inside out so won't need any 'bedding in' time.

Not even going to dignity that with a proper response, if you think our defence and goalkeeper were the reason why we finished 6th then you can't be taken seriously.

Is that because it doesn't suit the narrative? There is no suggestion he cost £60m+, in fact, hasn't it been reported as even less than £50m.

Silva and Walker down the right will be a great combination.

In France some media outlets suggested the fee was 80m euro's.

Ciy have form for this, the fee for Mangala was nearly £10m more than what they briefed the media.

When everyone knows the club's have got the money then why not?

I don't blame Spurs as it's good business for them and they now can go and buy a young English player for literally a fraction of that £50m and Pochettino can turn him into a good player.

I don't blame city for spending £50m but they appear desperate to spend it, especially when Walker is not known as the best defensively.
Just because you have more money it shouldn't necessitate spending more money. In fact, that's why English clubs have not progressed in Europe for years now or closed the gap on the footballing elite, all of whom are spending shrewder and smarter than 'we' are.

This newfound money is supposed to flood the global market and destablise these top clubs as new players(clubs) in said market are ready to go toe-to-toe with them for new players or even their own via what-can-then-be incredible financial offers.

The English teams could have made big waves with the money, but have instead shafted themselves and made themselves prey to any potential suitor.

As a selling club, of course Spurs have themselves an incredulous deal. It's the buying club who are having a mare here.

We can say 'it's City, they don't care.' but the knock-on effect is going to hit all clubs in the league, just as it will with Lukaku going for so much and thus setting a precedent.

Of course, many saw this coming and said Pogba will look a steal within the next few years, but there has been a leap in just a couple of windows that few would've foresaw and now we have players like Walker being sold for £50m just a year later. By that token, Pogba has to be a £150m already... just a season later. Madness.

He improves City hugely, as would Mendy, but by far the biggest cost driver in this will be the fact he's English. We only have 17 foreign spaces in the squad.

Ederson, Bravo (2)
Otamendi, Kompany, Kolarov (3)
Gundogan, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva, Silva, Sane, Fernandinho, Yaya (8)
Jesus, Aguero (2)

That's 15 already, and doesn't include players we are yet to sell like Nolito, Nasri, Fernando. Etc.

Add Mendy and your at 16 with one spot left and heavily chasing Sanchez. If overpaying £15m for Walker leads to you ending up with another Sanchez type player in the squad then that's a small price to pay. It's the same reason we are probably chasing Bertrand as well.

Edit: Fernandinho made it twice, but the point remains. With any luck they want a Fabinho type as well. Fixes DM and provides the RB cover when needed for missing out on Alves.

Hearing from ourside the fee will be £55-60 million, of course not confirmed but I'd say with add ins that's about right.

I wish him all the best but with that price tag round his neck and fans expecting a £50M player I predict he's in for a rocky start to his career there.

We live in a world where Walker and Sigurdsson go for 50mil. The world is fecked

Crazy money but that's today's market for you. In fairness I hope Swansea try to rinse absolutely every penny possible for Sigurdsson. He's a very good player (not 50 million good) and without a doubt the heartbeat of their team. Without him I'd expect they'd have got relegated last season and if they lose him this summer I'd be very worried for them. They need to do everything to keep him and if he does go for big money they really need to make some great investments to fill his void.

I doubt it will matter much. If it were at any of the non-sugar daddy clubs it would be a different story but no one cares about the latest big buy from City. They will spend around that much or more on several other signings this window.

Oh I agree it won't matter to them but like Sterling and Stones before Walker the media will be quick to point out all mistakes he makes.

It's 50 Million plus add ons.

Yeah we're hearing the fee could be £55-60M.

Well, you're not reading my post right. I'm saying that a good defence clearly is not enough to win the league - We were like 30 goals short.

Spurs are really shooting themselves in the foot here. If City sort their defence out they'll likely win the league.

Agreed, a bit of revisionism going on in this thread. In the last 18 months especially Walker has improved his game a lot and in my opinion is the most dangerous right full back going forward due to his driving runs and energy. His end product isn't always the best but it's almost the threat of him constantly always being there which makes him so dangerous as opposed to what he does with the ball. Make no doubts about it this signing significantly strengths City especially compared to what they have had in the last few years.

Goes to show if they hadn't pissed around with Pellegrini and we hadn't pissed around with Moyes/LvG we both would be miles clear of the rest

The players Pep and Jose are bringing in now shows they mean business and are gearing up for 10yrs of us and them battling it out
