Lol you 2, play nice.
IMO Ekeke, the stats you produced, proved "our" point a bit more then your own. Hes "productivity" for assists might have been a bit lower, but then he scored almost double the amount of goals then any of our wingers. Considering he played (as pointed out) for a struggling team, a more defensive team and a team who had their star striker (Torres) out for most of the season, those stats are pretty "on par" - if not better than our wingers.
I agree with you that a "more attack minded" player might have suited Pool better, but that is irrelevant to the main point we were discussing i.e. Kuyt being worth 15M or not.
Well I was asked when our attacking players had that kind of return. My answer was, most of them. And last season.
A return is something you'd always base on the amount of games played in. And Kuyt played in more matches for Liverpool than a lot of our attacking players who still had a better return. Only Valencia was involved in more matches. Everyone else less... Some considerably less and still produced more.
Kuyt was bought as a freescoring striker in the Netherlands at a time when the league wasnt shite like now. It was an extremely respectable record - better than Kezman, Ruud, Huntelaar, Afonso Alves, Suarez etc. And he was signed for £10 million as a 26 year old.
Since then we've seen he's actually an average striker. But a useful player out wide who does a decent job, or in 2008/2009 he done a very good job.
But at 30 years old with just a couple of seasons before he most likely declines like most players, is he worth even as much as he was back then given the potential and record he had? Obviously times have changed a bit with the money, so I'm not asking if he's worth more than that £10 million they paid. But at 30 years old is he worth, in relative terms, more than back in 2006 where his record was brilliant and he looked like he'd be a real good striker for someone? Because that bubble has burst. As a striker he failed. And useful player though he is, he's nowhere near as good a winger compared to how good of a striker he might have been coming off a great time in the netherlands.
£15 million is a lot of money for a player 30 years plus. It's only a couple of million less than Henry went to Barcelona for. Fees generally decline a lot in these years, I hate to think what you guys think he'd have been worth 2 years ago... The funny part being most of you thought he was shite then and not even worth the £10 million paid. Not more than he's now worth at 30.
