Chelsea and the youth team...I honestly don't even know why Chelsea or Man City have a youth team. All they do is train them up to play in the Carling Cup (maybe for 1 round) and then either go out on loan or get sold. When was the last time a Chelsea youth player broke into the team and actually stayed in it? They will always go for the big names, and players with the reputation and transfer fee will always get played ahead of youth.

So these players get top level talent and exposure that usually earns them a move to another decent sized club - I wouldn't they're doing that much harm to young players. Inevitably 95% of them won't be good enough to play for Chelsea but as long as they can get decent development and a route that could lead them to a reasonable club their spell at Chelsea will probably be seen as beneficial by them.

Occasionally you'll get players like De Bruyne who don't get a chance in spite of being quite clearly good enough or thereabouts but mostly players who leave are simply not good enough.

They loan them out without much hassle and have some good satellite clubs too.

He's supposed to be a real talent. They dont have much to lose anyways. If he makes the grade up to be ready for Chelsea, excellent, if not, someone of his talent will always be wanted by someone else. They wont even have to take much of a hit.
I think it's a good tactic if you've got the money to do it.

Absolutely.

Better buy a player of his supposed(because i havent seen him play) talent at 12mil than wait till he actually becomes a star and pay 25. If he doesnt turn out to be good enough for Chelsea, they can always sell him on without too much loss anyways.

The problem is the whole point of a youth system is to incorporate those players into your first team at some point. That should be the objective of a youth system. Chelsea's youth players never get any game time to even show what they are capable of. Even when they do and they show plenty of promise, it still won't be enough. When a youth player makes it at United, there is no better feeling than seeing him wearing a United shirt knowing that this is the team he grew up with and now he has finally made it and is living the dream. If you don't give the youth a chance and throw them in at the deep end, then what's the point?

Off the top of my head, John Terry was the last player to come through their ranks and make it. So what's that, 15 years ago?

I think UEFA or whoever need to have a look at this. It's not Chelsea's fault, if they can take advantage of this then why not. But should these oil clubs be allowed to buy all the best youth and loan them out? Essentially creating a monopoly of young talent. There's even rumours of City buying Boavista to "land" non EU youngsters in Europe and develop them there, seeing if/when some of them turn into stars.

And where does it end? What's stopping Chelsea and City or PSG buying all the best players from every major academy (like Ajax, Le Harve, Boca, Santos etc etc) and loaning them back until the ones who do become the next Messi or Ronaldo, make it.

Chelsea currently have 26 players out on loan. 27 once Zouma is offical.

Well, they can afford to throw around the money this way, I guess. It can double as a good money-making scheme as well.

Haha, last I know they had big-ed some of their players including Ake, Chalobah, McEachran, etc. And now they are nowhere to be found.

Apart from the hit on wages, yeah.

Of course and ideally you'd like those youngsters to make an impact someday but it's a long process. You cannot compare our academy with theirs because obviously we've done much better in that area - we still went through a rather barren spell in the early 2000s with Fletcher being the only genuinely quality addition to the side until Welbeck hit it off. Chelsea have tried to rearrange their youth system in the last few years and tried to take a different approach - one that we have taken lately too - with signing talented youngsters from all across the world. It might bear them fruits in a few years but I won't be surprised if they have to wait a good few years before they see results.

Not just that, in certain instances we receive pretty big loan fees as well (Everton have paid us a few million this year for Lukaku).

Yep, that too. Its good business if one has the money to do so.

The worst thing about it is, Chelsea have one of the best academies in England, they've got a host of players plying there trade there who if were playing anywhere else would have a real chance of turning into top class footballers.

Loaned straight back out. It's beyong a joke how Chelsea are buying all this raw talent across Europe and just loaning them to see which ones come good. In regards to that other thread about City dominating, Chelsea will have something to say about that.

To be fair we did the same with Zaha.

A rare example. Chelsea have done it countless times. 26 players out on loan right now from across Europe.

also spring to mind... not to mention the likes of the keane brothers macheda lingard tunnicliffe thorpe johnson and im sure quite a few others - havent we loaned out something like 15-20 players this season?

Are all academy graduates. I don't think too many people would complain if we loaned out 25 of our youth products, but the issue is when teams like Chelsea hoover up foreign talent just to loan them out and stop other teams signing them.

You're missing the point. Nearly all our loans are players we produced ourselves. Not "the next big thing" I.e. Lukaku or Zouma.

There is a big difference between a phone call from Mourinho & effing Moyes. Still think we missed out on a potentially outstanding defender.

This.

Zouma and Kalas will be their future CB pairing and they will be frightening.

Would love to see this guy at Old Trafford. Big, physical and brave, he'd be a natural successor to Vidic. Great acquisition for Chelsea.

And another one says they turned us down. Im convinced there is something in their contracts to say they turned us down when they sign for the likes of Chelski etc (nice bonus or something stupid like a blowie off of Romans missus). Its comical how many come out with this stuff.

Like someone said, if you're a young player and receive a call and offer form David Moyes and one from Jose Mourinho which are you choosing? No brainer.

Players are convinced that they will please the supporters by saying that.

Meh he'll probably never even play for Chelsea.

Another one to join the "I turned United down" brigade. Well done your blue peter badge is on it's way to you.

All the players have turned us down apparently so we won't hear this sentence anymore unless random people start saying it.

"I was offered a contract by United but turned it down to be a mushroom harvester."

I said it in another thread. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he leaves them in two or three years having played barely any first team football.
Actually I'll be more surprised if he's there in three years playing first team football.

It probably wont, Chelsea aren't exactly known for their witty/catchy chants.

He'll be first team player there for the best part of the next decade. Terry will be gone soon, Cahill and Ivanovic aren't getting any younger either, Luiz has departed.
