Haven't seen a thread on him but another in a long line of playerrs linked with us.

What do we think? Only seen the usual Youtube highlights but he looked ok to me.

Zouma has been banned for 10 games for this tackle I dont even think its a red card personally

No doubt it's dangerous - he could have broken that guy's leg quite easily.

10 games is a bit harsh though.

He did break the guy's leg. And dislocated his ankle.

I think it's harsh though, but it keeps in line with Ligue 1's tough policy on any tackles that seriously injure players.

To be fair if it happened in Premier League most would be arguing it's not a foul because he got the ball. If that was Arsenal's player alastair would be calling it conspiracy.

It's a foul because he dived into the tackle with excessive force. Full speed, jumped into it. If you freeze frame at the 11 second mark you can see how high he is from the ground. Definitely red card. 10 games way too harsh.

Of course it's a red.

Zouma's left foot might have played the ball but, in order for him to get there, his trailing leg had to go directly through the back of the other player's standing leg and break his ankle. Just because the contact was made with his thigh rather than his studs, that doesn't make it any less high or reckless. Challenges from behind were outlawed years ago precisely to avoid these sorts of injuries.

Imo it's clearly a red, despite him playing the ball first. The amount of force behind that challenge was simply too reckless. However it seems like he wasn't going for the player, so I think ~3games would've been enough.

I was expecting far worse, the way it was being talked about. To be honest I can't even see where the contact is, unless it's just the tangling of legs in the follow through where the attacking player got his foot caught.

10 games for that.

Very unlucky that the Sochaux player got seriously injured, but that wasn't a red card.

Red for dangerous play. Maybe tack on a few games because he did seriously injure the guy but not 10 matches. It was bad luck and didn't appear to be any intent. Tackles are part of the game and yet this gets a harsher punishment than say biting someone or using racist language or stamping, etc. Bit of a joke

Jeez when I first saw this I didn't even think it was a foul.

Its really unfortunate that the guy gets injured, but let's be honest if the lad popped up and ran off nothing more would have been said.

The punishment for the tackle has been worsened because of the injury, which i'm not sure is fair/correct.

If Zouma purposely went out to nail him and hurt him then fair enough, but you can clearly see its a legitimate slide tackle.

The 10 games is because of precedence, the same ban has been issued for leg-breakers in the past. If I recall the referee appeared to only take the decision to send Zouma off once he had seen the extent of the injury.

Zouma might have got away with it the prem but he does go in with far too much force. he's literally flying before impact, everything above ground. Clear red for me. Ban length, well, does seem excessive.

Sign him up, it will take aerial dominance to a new level if we can have someone soaring to reach the ball as it's 20 feet in the air

If you've read the laws of the game it's 100% a red card.

a 10 game ban though? Ridiculous.

Becomes an absolute monster in both FIFA and FM. I'm going to assume he's alright in real life too.

Always liked him. Seems a decent deal.
I think financially it seems an amazing deal. I've only seen him a few times so I won't claim to be certain he'll be a hit, but given the potential people think he has 12 million is very cheap. Why do other teams always seem to be able to pay reasonable prices?

FM legend last year. Never seen him play live though so have no idea what he's like.

Loaned straight back out. It's beyong a joke how Chelsea are buying all this raw talent across Europe and just loaning them to see which ones come good. In regards to that other thread about City dominating, Chelsea will have something to say about that.

Yeah, they're amassing top talent. Will have quite a team when some of them inevitably striker it big.

Thats just it, it is almost inevitable. You throw enough darts at the board and eventually you'll hit the bull. While us and the rest get to throw 3 darts, Chelsea are throwing about 33.

City are doing it too from what I gather. Havent bothered to check names etc but evidently they are buying top talent at an even younger age and putting them all in their academy.

Whats the point of buying him for so much money? Didn't they have 1-2 good CBs in their youth team? Chalobah or someone?

Guessing it's insurance. Hoover up all the best talent across Europe and if Chalobah, Kalas or Ake or whoever doesn't come good, you've got Zouma or the other 24 players they have out on loan.

He's supposed to be a real talent. They dont have much to lose anyways. If he makes the grade up to be ready for Chelsea, excellent, if not, someone of his talent will always be wanted by someone else. They wont even have to take much of a hit.

Chelsea and the youth team...I honestly don't even know why Chelsea or Man City have a youth team. All they do is train them up to play in the Carling Cup (maybe for 1 round) and then either go out on loan or get sold. When was the last time a Chelsea youth player broke into the team and actually stayed in it? They will always go for the big names, and players with the reputation and transfer fee will always get played ahead of youth.
