Thinking about it, i can see the Garay rumours having more behind it than this. Sir Alex is likely to want to replace Rio and Vidic long term with at least one experienced defender at the back. Remember Evra is now 31+ too.

And after these 3 our most experienced defender is Evans.
 
Would be delighted to see after Zaha, another talents on their way to Old Trafford.

If I'm not wrong, Zouma is 18 but looks already like he's way above 21. His game style is not only based on physicality which he uses in effective way. He also makes some good decisions as he got that positive habit of clearing the ball to safety, under huge pressure... something that Vidic mastered in pretty much every aspect in United.

When have we ever signed Madrid rejects though? Could have had Sneijder, even as part of the Ronaldo deal. Robben, Eto'o, the list goes on. All better players than Garay is likely ever to be and we werent in for them. Would be strange for that to change now especially for a player like him

Because of Inter's demands and his wage demands.

Moratti and his agent was quoted speaking about our interest IIRC and there were links for like 2 months regularly with him.

No need. Both Michael Keane and Tom Thorpe are good enough to make it at United IMO, and with Evans, Smalling and Jones our defence is youthful enough as it is.

Garay would improve our central defense as things are now. Will be interesting to see in the coming months if Jones, Evans, and Smalling can 'kick on.'
