You can add Lucas Digne to that list of french youngsters, he's another I think could become a fine modern day fullback.

Why? If Rio is leaving, it would just leave us with Vidic, Smalling, Evans and Jones. And with our regular injury concerns, we would need Jones and another CB for back up to stop Carrick (or someone else) to play in the defense and out of position.
If we are going in for this lad, I would be more concerned about Wootton and Michael Keane.

I see, You watched his game with proper attention. He really got that Smalling's solid physical presence.
He propably fits better to Premiership standards than Raphael Varane. Luckily Sir Alex already knows about his potential.
How does Varane not fit Premiership standards? He's quick, strong, reads the game well and is reasonably comfortable on the ball. And he's getting opportunities in a good Real Madrid defence at only 19 years of age.
Probably means in bravery terms, he seems more likely to throw himself head first into a goal line block like vidic / terry, than a clinical interception like ferdinand / ramos etc.

Is bit of a physical monster from 1 game i have seen. Good talent and it would make sense to sign him up with 18 months left amid other interest he is attracting.
