Strootman is crocked again and Vidal has another knee injury, on top of that I think Arsenal or Spurs are likely to be favourites for Schneiderlin and Pogba will probably go to Real Madrid. However I think Koke is pretty much ideal for us. He can play on the right or left of the diamond or as a CM if we played 4-2-3-1. He has a great range of passing, hits a good cross, works hard and is strong on the ball, plus his set-pieces are excellent.

I know he signed a new contract this year but Atletico tend to sell most summers in order to keep building their squad and may be even more inclined to this summer with Valencia now a genuine threat with some big money backing.

I am not sure if the buyout is still £47M but if it is I'd say his versatility, consistent quality and age make him worth the fee in today's market. I'm sticking my muppet flag to the mast of the good ship Koke for this summer!

It's okay. De Gea is on the case ... oh wait. :(

Pure muppetry..We have no chance of getting Koke...He has said many times that he wants to stay in Spain and if he leaves Atletico then Barca and Real will be in for him......if he leaves Spain then Chelsea, City, PSG, etc will all be in the running, ...more realistic options but still almost impossible to get would be Modric, Gundogan, Hamsik, Witsel, Vidal

Koke would be a dream signing and it would stick two fingers up at Pogba if we got him but will never happen

Perfect for the right side of the diamond. Great delivery, great engine.

But you know, seeing as it won't happen I wouldn't be averse to Herrera playing there once in a while.

Theres some rumours saying Liverpool want him as Gerrards replacement.

Surely Atletico would not sell Koke to Real Madrid? Plus they are probably going to buy Pogba and already have Kroos. If we make the top 4 I don't see City, Chelsea or PSG as more attractive than United, plus in the case of Chelsea they have Fabregas and Oscar, we could offer him everything and a designated key role coming in.

If he wants to stay in Spain then yes, he'll probably stay another year at Atleti and then move to Barca, but things change and I think some of our own fans underestimate the clubs draw, but we shall see.

And this is the first summer in a long time where midfield does not seem like a desperate need.

It doesn't? We are basically playing with either Blind or Carrick as a #6 and then a mix of Rooney, Mata and Januzaj as CM's with the mop thrown in now and again, plus Carrick will be 34 at that start of next season and has missed a lot of this with injury.

Meh, seems really pointless buying a midfielder at the moment when players like Herrera can't even get a game and the likes of Di Maria are being played out of position.

Di Maria is never going to play in CM for us, he gives the ball away way too often for LvG to play him there, the role he played on Saturday is ideal for him as he could roam wherever he wanted and was free to just attack. As for Herrera, there is obviously more to that story than we know.

Best summer to attempt to sign him with Barcelona having a transfer ban.

Great player, but Herrera is also a very good one with potential and he's being wasted currently. Just give him a chance and we won't need anyone there.

Combative, creative box to box midfielder playing for foreign champions who is a total pipe dream, would cost the earth and virtually holds a zero chance of actually happening?

I'm in. Let's do this.

What's the point? We have an almost identical one in Herrera and the manager doesn't start him

I think Koke is stronger on the ball and more patient with his passing, plus why not Koke and Herrera? I mean right now we are playing a diamond midfield with a striker and a winger in the RM and LM roles because our other option would be to play Fellaini who isn't suited to it or another #10 in Mata.

Before anyone says Di Maria, he is way too careless with possession for LvG, hence the free attacking role he now has, I don't see him moving him back to a more disciplined LM role.

He doesn't play centrally often but he might be the best CM in the world. Incredible footballer. I'd love to see us pay over the odds for him. He, Di Maria and Herrera chasing people and creating would be fantastic to watch.

I think only Godin is better than him, and we're talking about what is probably the 4th or 5th best side in the world.

I think Herrera, Blind, Fellaini and Carrick is a decent midfield core. We can improve there but, we have bigger needs.

I reckon that if we talk about this enough on here, make it really clear that us fans are adamant that he is our #1 muppet transfer target for the summer then the following chain of events will unfold:

  • Firstly, The Express or such like will recognise that he is a fans favourite and will fabricate a link to us.
  • Secondly, media in Spain will reference The Express (or Mirror) and will create a story over there.
  • Thirdly, the more reputed media in England, the broadsheets, Sky, ESPN ect will pick up on the links in Spain and will create their own articles linking him to us.
  • Fourthly, the media in Spain will reference those links and it will bounce back ad infinitum.

Welcome to the transfer muppet merry-go-round. Let's make it happen.

We are playing a diamond, a formation that Fellaini doesn't have the mobility or agility for and Carrick is 34 next year and can only play the same role as Blind in the formation. That leaves Herrera who LvG doesn't seem to rate. Basically we have needs in all areas and there is no reason not to address them all in the summer.

This summer's version of Vidal hey Pex?

Koke is a fantastic player. I'd take him over Pogba personally.

I just get the feeling that he won't leave At. Madrid.

You forgot;
  • Atletico Madrid will categorically deny he's for sale in response to the media reports
  • Giggs will read the Sunday Papers, only to go up to Van Gaal the next day in training "ey, Louie? We in for Koke?"
  • ?????
  • We buy Koke.

I think he could be a good buy but can he bring any balance to the team? I didn't think that Fabregas could play for Chelsea at the base of midfield and yet he plays there and is the hell of a player and they don't struggle defensively much, Koke would be great but there will be other options and first we need to find palce for Herrera..
