Kobe Bryant RIP

Kobe was a pilot, wasn’t he?

It could be possible the family were onboard.

:(

I'm not sure he was a pilot, but he would take helicopters through most of his career, that was his main mode of transportation. He's taken a helicopter hundreds of times, but it only takes one.

RIP. He was a great player. Helicopter is a dangerous because of the counter rotating rotors at the tail. You lose that and it becomes a spinning top.

Regarding his daughters being in the crash
Yeah I know, is that confirmed as false? So far I've seen some reports saying they were on, some saying they weren't on.

I don't think people should speculate about the other victims until confirmation comes through. No major outlets have reported the other victims yet.

Cannot believe this....

Shit this one really hurts. I don't think there's a guy my age who hasn't yelled kobeeee as kid while shooting a 3.

ABC did, I don't know if they've retracted it since then. Highly irresponsible of them if it's not true.

RIP

Ridiculous. As a kid I only knew about basketball from Space Jam and then he bought it back into my life as he transcended the sport and was basically a celeb. Takes a special level of talent and dedication to do even half of what he did

Still shocked and can't believe one of the biggest icons of my sporting generations is gone. This hits closer to home as I've literally seen him grow up as a lifelong Lakers fan who lives in Orange County. He coached my friend's daughter's basketball team as his own daughter played too.

It was well-known Kobe regularly flew in helicopters out of John Wayne Airport for games and such. Crazy shit.

TMZ updated this on their site :(

12:35 PM PT -- Kobe's daughter Gianna Maria -- aka GiGi -- was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash ... reps for Kobe tell TMZ Sports. She was 13.

We're told they were on their way to the Mamba Academy for a basketball practice when the crash occurred. The Academy is in nearby Thousand Oaks.

This is insane, its news you just don't want to hear and leaves you speechless.

Was only a very casual fan of basketball but this is a massive loss. It almost seems untrue until you go on wikipedia and see "Kobe Bryant was" as opposed to "Kobe Bryant is".

RIP

The reporting of this has been absolutely appalling. What the feck is wrong with just saying you don't know who else was on board and waiting until you actually do?
Social media turns people into highschoolers. Everybody wants to be the first to break the news, and some want to feel important by spreading false rumours.

Yeah it’s fricking disgusting that media is just effectively guessing who was on board yet have no idea. Just say you don’t know and then when you do, you then report it.

It really is ridiculous, but it's always been this way before even social media. I remember being in school during 9/11, and we were getting all kinds of crazy information like the White House was attacked. Just people being people. At this point, I just want confirmation his daughters are safe and have survived him.
