A midfielder who's not good at passing, we can't afford stuff like that anymore. Needs to be upgraded with a ball playing midfielder this summer.

What does he offer again? Barely runs and passing range is very limited.

There were a couple of issues flagged up last season his play, mediocre athletic ability and a limited passing range. A 3 man midfield fits his current attributes better than this shape, get runners and a creative passer around him, allowing him to be more of a connective tempo setter.

Think the England responsibility came too early for him for his short term development, left him lacking a strong pre season and overplayed early. May be a regression this season before a step forward next.

Won the ball once and little of the desire to work the ball forward that Ugarte showed with his passing. Not very good

He doesn't really offer much at the moment to be honest. Casemiro has had far more good performances than him over the last 18 months and probably deserves to start over him, for now anyway. The Casemiro & Ugarte pairing has been the only one in recent memory that provided any semblance of a functional midfield. He has potential, but I do think he's highly overrated by many.

He is good with those short bursts and some nice touches but passing is mediocre and cant run 90 min. Another player who is hyped way too much than what he is currently delivering.

One for the future but is surely not a first team regular quality. Wont play in any top 4 team regularly. Plays for us because we are essentially a mid table team at the moment

Yeah. We all got carried away with the Mainoo-Garnacho-Hojlund sititng on the boards celebration, but the truth is that none of them are anywhere near ready to be regular starters for a team with our aspirations.

Pogba was about 5x the player but had a shite attitude.

I agree, I was being kind as you can’t give Pogba too much praise around here. Especially in comparison to an academy fave. But I see similar issues in their games anyway.

Still think there's a quality player in there, but not one suited to the up-and-down style of Amorim's football. Would make a great press-resistant midfielder for a controlled possession type of team, but he's too poor an athlete to play the way Amorim wants us to play. He is the complete opposite of Hjulmand and Morita.

Needs to move off the ball far far better. Doesn’t make himself available often enough and doesn’t have the passing range to make up it when he does get the ball

I thought he was decent tbh. Much better than he has been playing this season anyway.

Surprised Amorim hasn’t tried him in one of the 10 positions where he can float and do his dribbling.

Couldn’t believe he stayed on. Was expecting him to be taken off and Bruno to stay on.

Needs to continue to develop, maybe outside the spotlight, starting the odd came and coming from bench in the others.

The generational talent, the next seedorf. He’s really not. The way he plays might be good enough for championship. Offers nothing. Reminds me of Oliver skipp.

The comments in this thread, ridiculous. Most people writing him off were probably convinced he was ´the real deal´ last season when he showed to be one of the brightest prospects in the world, and ran the midfield for England this summer at 19 years old!

He offers plenty. Very press resistant, great ball carrier, capable of scoring clutch goals...
Will he do it game in, game out? No. He wasn't great today. But get off his back for feck's sake

Passenger for a while now

Ugarte-Casemiro as first choice pair

Prefer Eriksen over Mainoo when Case needs a rest

Deserves minutes still, but young and learning, far from finished article

He should ideally be starting the odd game but, much like Garnacho and maybe Amad, they've been thrown in at the deep end because of inconsistent performances from more experienced players.
Also, Uniteds post SAF handling of young players is generally incompetent.
Too much gametime and pressure far too soon.

Pogbas passing was levels above Kobbie, which IMO is the most important trait for a CM these dates.
Passing, pace, physical strength, aerial ability, goalscoring. I love Mainoo but that’s a mental comparison.

Cleverly is good comparison.
People forget that, when he was on it, he was a decent player.

Our biggest mistake when it comes to squad building was that we rely heavily on young prospects to be regular starters. Let's be honest, at the moment, Mainoo, Garnacho, Hojlund and even Amad are PL average at best. None of them would probably be in Nottingham Forest's starting 11. But somehow we are expecting to dominate such opponents. Actually the likes of Eriksen, Casemiro, Mount & Rashford should be our key players, but, in an inexplicable way, they are even worse, which is why we will be seeing our young players stagnate and break due to the pressure.

He’s got a solid short passing range and, like Amad, excels in tight spaces where he can dribble and link up play effectively. I wouldn’t mind seeing him given a shot in that No. 10 role—it feels like a position where his strengths could really shine.

Yeah it's how Ive mostly seen him. Has some good moments but his lack of pace really hinders him.

Still think he will be a good player in the future but Souness was right, he needs to learn his position

Is he dynamic enough for that role? Bruno is not exactly a speedster but his engine allows him to cover a lot of ground, whereas Kobbie is still getting there with his athletic development. There is a lot of pressing responsibility on the 10 that he might struggle to manage.

He is a work in progress, plenty of talent, silky touch and balance, imagination in footwork to get away from people but teams have had a look at him now and know he is not such a threat with the ball at feet deep and are sitting off him denying the quick interplay that he does really well to beat an aggressive press. Needs to keep working on his passing range.

Seems a shadow of that energetic, forward passing, positive thinking player that burst onto the scene not too long ago. Doesn’t seem fit, as others have alluded to, also.

Needs to put his technique to use and up his progressive passing stats. In a pivot and him + Ugarte he's the one supposed to be progressing play, but the number of times he keeps it simple or just passes back is too high. If he wants to reach the top level as a CM, he absolutely has to get more creative with his passing. It's too basic, too telegraphed.

When he got on the ball, he was okay today. The issue was that he was doing a Mctominay act.. alot. Doesn't show for the ball nearly enough. I think he's also not confident in his role within the system.
