Klopp Confirmed Liverpool Manager

Because there is nowhere else for him to go? Which other big club right now is manager-less or has a manager that is very close to being sacked (maybe Jose but that's another discussion)
After this season, Pep might go, José might go, Wenger might go (bit more doubtful), FSW might get the sack, LVG might go... I just think it's crazy that he's taking the Liverpool job when looking at their squad. It shouldn't be possible to achieve much without some great signings. And even so, the PL has become so tough with us spending loads, Arsenal not shying away from spending and Chelsea and Man City, well I don't need to tell you about their financial capabilities? But hey, I guess everyone loves a challenge? Especially everyones favourite hipster Klopp!

I'd love a Champions league and Fa Cup to get us started.
He actually could get you that. Nothing else though IMO and a similar ending to Benitez.

I don't care about City or Chelsea, they are oil clubs that wouldn't be our rivals if not for sugar daddy ownership, yes City have local rivalry but they have been irrelevant to us for a long time until they got bought up by Sheikh whatshisface. The dislike of Liverpool runs deeper for me and I think a lot of fans.

But the bottom line is the dislike comes from them being a rival for much of the last 50 years. In essence them getting it right for alot of them 50 years without a sugar daddy much like ourselves. We have managed lately to distance ourselves based on success which then brought a financial disparity. In fairness on the financial side we've been a bigger club for all of that time. Its hard to think Klopp will overcome that even with a decade of relative success. In fact its impossible to think they could become a dominant force because of the clout of ourselves, Chelsea and city. Probably even the richest of that group won't be a sustained winner in the league. Wenger for me is just as astute but for other reasons or perhaps the same reasons couldn't break that inevitability....

I really dont know why half of you are going so giddy, hes not nearly as good as is made out.

None of that changes my personal feelings that I'd rather have him anywhere but Liverpool, I could tolerate him managing another PL club but not them.

Fair enough pal but he's a likeable guy who you will now have to dislike I guess. If we can't be better than them with any manager its really down to us and we don't really deserve to be winning anything given the obvious advantages we have over them.

Do we have any tear jerkingly inspirational photoshop mock ups from the scouse yet?

Mourinho is way ahead stats wise but bar SAF the ability to rebuild winning teams has eluded most if not all.

I'm just singing Red Hot Chilli Pepper lyrics as Klopp at the Kop reminds me of that song. With a transfer committee I think he will struggle a bit. Even though I like him as a manager it will be good to see if that ends up being the case as he is now at the shite.

Didn't have a marvellous season last year, taking Dortmund to 7th was it? Almost Moyes esque, but with less competition.

However, if he'd been free 15months ago, we'd have definitely dropped at the chance to take him on, Woodward described him simply as a "genius"

I don't see how just any manager would make us better, we've spent a fortune in the last 2 summers and don't look much better, still playing lifeless robotic football with rigid tactics. Money alone doesn't get it done, for instance us appointing Roberto Martinez and giving him £250M to spend would still see me comfortably pick Klopp to get Liverpool to finish above him.

I think that transfer committee rumour is a smokescreen. At the end of the day I'm pretty sure Brenda had the final say. Even with Balotelli it was a case of he's the best we can get. Either way the committee will be taking his lead from German players they know little about most likely. But we got Martial...and like every young German every top club knows about them kids.....its a case of who pays the most in 90% of cases.

It seems to me that the Klopp appointment made a lot of people happy again to see Liverpool on the potential rise again. As far as i am concerned, they could drop down to League 2 and i couldnt be happier.

who the hell wants Liverpool on the rise again?

Oh I remember, those idiots on here who wanted them to win the league 15months ago!

They (you) also have relatively easy games in the League Cup (forget the sponsor) and the Europa league at home which can help boost morale. I think 10-12 points are a best case scenario (could win at Chelsea if they keep the implosion going). But equally, if he gets beaten in 3 of his first 5 games it might grind down some of the aura he has.

Interesting run of games for sure.

Getting 10 points, especially if they don't lose at City, would be a wonderful return considering that after this run of games they'll have played all of City, Chelsea, Arsenal, United, Everton and Spurs away from home.

ok thats your opinion but pre Arsenal we were top of the league. We may well be again after Everton who knows. I think you are jumping alot of guns here. We scored 3 goals in each of the games pre Arsenal. We had the joint best defence in the league. We looked tired against Wolfsburg and we looked the same against Arsenal. Thats it for me.

How many people are actually on that committee, 5? At the very most with how it is structured his input may well be the majority individually but not overall. I can still see them signing various unknown quantities and losing out for the most part if other than Klopp it stays as the same people involved as previously. Plus, they don't exactly have the biggest budget going and if someone is really highly rated then teams with a bigger budget will be floating other than Liverpool.

The language barrier is a very underrated aspect that has barely been touched. Sure the PL has no winterbreak, more games and a higher intensity, but that is just football. The ability to transport and teach his ideas in English and motivate the players accordingly becomes a lot more difficult, when you only have 10-20% of your previous vocabulary in the English language. Especially, when you come from the emotional side, it makes a huge difference how many nuances and layers you can add to the same message. I know people laugh at a lot of his comments, because they are literal translations of German sayings and that sounds funny. Not sure how long the novelty effect will last though.

His English is surely better than LVG's, and the latter teaches philosophy in England.

Would you honestly say we played good football in any of those games? I didn't find any of the performances overly impressive, we are still mostly tumescent to watch, and look at the table, Leicester has a top 4 spot as well right now it's so early in the season, and our defense has looked vulnerable since Shaw got hurt as there's no one to protect Blind on that left side. As far as tiredness goes, that speaks volumes about the issues we have, I mean the season has barely started and we are already tired? However I wasn't merely talking about a single season, you said we should be able to finish above Liverpool no matter who we have as manager, which was why I made the Martinez comment.

Even if they win back to back titles getting the best players there will be near on impossible. Jesus we dominated for 15 years + and still we struggled with that.

It was 7 games in 21 days or something similar doesnt matter when the season started with little rotation thats what happens. Fergie learnt to rotate from the off, drop point from the off, but benefit come Feb. That took many years to master....give the lads a break they've done very well. Great to watch.....have we been that since 2008...

Same amount of games that other teams had to play and rotation is not a science, LvG just left the squad so short that we barely have the options to rotate properly, and if they are tired now and with our thin squad then they'll be out on their feet come Christmas. No we haven't been good to watch since 2008, maybe we should appoint a manager who allows freedom for creative players to express themselves and we'd finally get back to being the cavalier and exciting team that was synonymous with the Manchester United name.

The surging form that carried his side from relegation candidacy to Europe? That would definitely spark some life into the League, agreed.
I mean the reason he was sacked, right at the end.

Obviously before hand Klopp was an amazing manager. You should read my comment again...

But that rules out SAF.....who managed them from 2008? And I would say our best team of the last 20 years gave me as many heart attacks as this crop so I'm not even sure what good to watch even means! I would also state that the team that is best to watch is the least likely to win anything of note. You want cavalier footfall but I don't think we won anything with that. If you look back we won because we had a great work ethic and great organistaion and most importantly desire....nothing cavalier about that bar allowing one of two players the freedom of the park.

We played some wonderful football over the years under SAF and won plenty doing so, and I'd rather be near a heart attack watching United than near a coma which has been the case with some of the football we have churned out over the last few years. Our football post-2008 under SAF was hampered by the fact the side was short on genuine top quality attackers and flair. The 2008 side was the perfect balance of great world class attacking talent in Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and Giggs, and a world class defense and keeper, delivering entertainment and trophies.

@JustFootballFan
I said he's no idiot because he's much more meticulous in his work that his casual behavior suggests and knows exactly what he's getting into, including the media part. Which he won't care too much about anyway.

But LVG has had 1.2 seasons. If you go back to SAF who I believe took over a team that finished 4th his football in the following 2 years was not what you seen in 2008. Nor was it cavalier. Or gung ho or whatever. You are basically slating a manager who went from 7th to 1st only a week ago. Spain were crap to watch for most in the last 8 years even though successful. Pass pass pass pass pass pass stuff. Arsenal you could argue are what you desire who have been the most pleasing on the eye for the last decade. We have Depay and Martial who may become what you want yesterday.

I'm staying out of this thread, but this reminds me of Fergie joining United.

Well that was a fun week so far, that .gif-thread over at the rawk really is something else :)

With that ammount of hysteria going on right now, i really wonder what their options are if Kloppo should actually fail. The only one i can think of right now is immediate club liquidation :D - if Messiah Kloppo can't do it, no one else can, and what point would it be to continue trying :D

Can Klopp do something for them? I think so. I agree with those pundits who say he is sort of a perfect fit. He can push underdog clubs, he has the blue-collar approach that would really be out of tune at clubs like Barca, Real (especially), Bayern or United (?!). The question is whether he can transfer his enthusiasm also in a language that isn't his own. If he can't maintain his level of athenticity, he is f*ckd. I wonder how good his assistants english is, tbh.
Whichever way it goes, it will be entertaining to watch, that is one thing for sure.

Can he improve them from their current level? I'd give that 90%. Title challengers? doubt it because of financial muscle. All bigger clubs would have to screw up really royally and at the same time.

LvG has spent and absolute fortune acquiring talent, it's his boring methods that has us playing the crappy stuff we are churning out. Fergie didn't have the same kind of outlay to get what he needed right off the bat. As far as what Martial and Memphis can produce, I never said they couldn't, I just don't think they will while playing under LvG and his robotic and oppressive style. I also don't see why you keep bringing up that he had us in first for a cup of coffee when we are 8 games into the season, as I already said Leicester are top 4 as well in the same time period so it's pretty irrelevant, and this was never about whether he can get us into the top 4, it was about the fact we are crap to watch under him.

Still a bit shocked to be fair, but you have to say fair play to them for even having a go. If i was Ian Ayre picking up that phone i'd be expecting my proposal to be met with nothing but uninterrupted German chortling.

We did finish 4th last season unlike Leicester or the likes. Fergie could still buy the best of British from the get go. Thats all you needed back then and thats what got us the first title to a large extent. You have bayern fans moaning about aspects of pep's decisions. Chelsea fans and Arsenal fans with there's. United fans under SAF the same. What you desire basically does not exist!

Dropping truthbombs like that is the opposite of 'staying out of this thread'. robo.

What a ridiculous coup. The Liverpool players must be so shot at mentally having worked under that clown Brendan, and I fear that Klopp is literally the best manager they could get, bar none. He's such a motivational and inspiring manager, they'll love playing under him. I can see players like Coutinho and Sturridge really becoming brilliant.

Who did achieve more: Fergie at Aberdeen or Klopp at Dortmund?
