I'm in. Hope it happens.
Done dealio. First Kim to play for United
I'm not really clued up on the player but you guys seem convinced of his quality so I guess I'm going to go with your better judgement. On the flip side, high quality players rarely come available for release clauses this reasonable. On the open market he'd be 50% more at minimum, and we no doubt need a top class CB. Is it a priority? Of course not. But there's something to be said for buying quality for good prices when we generally never do. At least it's good business.
Some assumption that they have each others numbers.Really excited by this if it happens. Hopefully Park is ringing him up and telling him how great United is.
Varane ain't playing 50 games a season anymore. We will probably get 25-30 games out of him max. We need a replacementWhose place is he taking - Varane? Whilst we def need upgrades on lindelof, Maguire, bailly, jones et al, Kim, varane or licha aren’t going to be second fiddle.

Bebe.Who are the players we activated release clause and bought previously? I can only remember Herrera.
Said in jest. Some assumption that they have each others numbers.
I've noticed EtH has been extremely complementary about Varane this season and I think he more than any other player really led by example after those two early defeats in the season, but the reality is he's managed just 44 league games in nearly two seasons at the club. It's not Phil Jones level of injuries but it's not ideal to have your centre back so often out.Whose place is he taking - Varane? Whilst we def need upgrades on lindelof, Maguire, bailly, jones et al, Kim, varane or licha aren’t going to be second fiddle.
We'll be sold by July when the clause kicks in, plus for all we know, whoever enters the exclusivity period might insist on providing some form of funds for transfers.Because I don't believe Joel Glazer will sanction a €50m fee which will likely have to be paid in one lump sum due to the release clause. And i'm also not sure if we're as interested as being made out to be when other areas in the team are far more important to upgrade with a limited budget.
I thing we'd be better served targeting a younger CB who is comfortable rotating with Varane for now, if as expected Maguire leaves.
I forgot that transfer. ThanksBebe.
The last time Todibo missed games through injury was a few years ago. Unless I'm mistaken, which is a possibility. We'll be sold by July when the clause kicks in, plus for all we know, whoever enters the exclusivity period might insist on providing some form of funds for transfers.
How much younger than 26 do you want to get? Min-jae will have Varanes starting place by the end of the season and will enter his prime the season after, Varane is a liability.
Todibo has also had two very big injuries very young in his career, we shouldn't be going near him for that reason, especially if we're after replacing Varane with him.

But from what I've seen of Todibo (mentioned him on here 4 years ago) he's developed very well in the last few years where he's been on loan and been utilised as a RB and hence has developed the ability to invert infield. And his ability to resist/evade the press along with his ability to carry and dribble under pressure is very impressive for a young player. I'd say from what I've seen of Todibo, he's absolutely rapid, technically gifted, tactically versatile and someone who I feel would be a good rotation option for Varane before potentially taking over from his French compatriot.
The thread below goes into more details.
Of course, they have each other's numbers. If Park calls, Kim should receive the call within two seconds, while Son might have up to three seconds. They all belong to "the Park generation" here in Korea, which means they used to watch most of Manchester United games at 2 AM. I'm certain that Kim was angered by Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to drop Park during the Champions League final. Some assumption that they have each others numbers.
What about Ole, Vidic, Ronnie Johnson, and a few moreOur club never unearth gems, it's always about a player who's already performed elsewhere
Recently man, you're talking about ancient historyWhat about Ole, Vidic, Ronnie Johnson, and a few more
Players from Ligue 1 adapt much much better to the PL than players from the Serie A because the physicality is at a good level in FranceI get it Todibo is a good player too but what is wrong with KMJ? He has singlehandedly elevated Napoli's defense and won the first scudetto since 33 years (he contributed as much as Kvara and Osimhen imo), had outstanding stats from all the CBs in Serie A, has almost no weaknesses, is much more experienced and less injury prone despite only 3 years age gap. Serie A is better than Ligue Un too. I would understand if KMJ was near his 30s or if he was really bad at those attributes but he is not. He is a very complete CB who combines all the skills needed for ETHs style. And he is available for 40m! If you sell Maguire you get at least half the money spent on KMJ.
Garnacho , Amad.....recent enough? Our club never unearth gems, it's always about a player who's already performed elsewhere
Very young players who still have everything to prove.Garnacho , Amad.....recent enough?

Social media means talented youngsters have instant exposure, unearthing gems is a thing of the past.Recently man, you're talking about ancient history
Players that have done nothing in the PL are the ones that have everything to prove IMO.Very young players who still have everything to prove.
That's fair enough. There's no doubting Todibo is talented, I'm just wary of his previous injury record and Barcelona letting him go.
I think given Kim Min-jae has helped Napoli win the league and soon approaching his prime, the transition from Varane to Min-jae would be smoother.

What is wrong is not KMJ, it's our budget, we have other areas to cover, and we might need 100m to sign striker. I think we should be looking for someone around 25m like how much Arsenal spent on Gabriel. Kim is around 40m with probably asking higher wages might not be ideal for our budget (it's great value for CB these days though). Todibo is from Nice and if ratcliffe wins the take over then we might be able to get Todibo for cheap or on loan.I get it Todibo is a good player too but what is wrong with KMJ? I think the club know and have a better handle on what the actual budget is. Our budget was 20m last summer apparently. What is wrong is not KMJ, it's our budget, we have other areas to cover, and we might need 100m to sign striker. So what do you want? Hidden gems that are performing and already proven a lot? Is there such a thingVery young players who still have everything to prove.

Yeah right, let's tell that to some of the other clubs who do that on a regular basis (Look no further than Brighton)There's no doubting Todibo is talented, I'm just wary of his previous injury record and Barcelona letting him go.

Garnacho is doing very nicely at the moment.

There are no guarantees for sure. There are have been way too many players deemed as "obvious" signings , bought for huge fees and who haven't delivered. It's not that I disagree with you but there is also some logic in letting other clubs take the risks involving in unearthing players. For every Kim and Osimhen, there are 49 flops or mediocre players who never get big moves.
There's also no guarantee they would develop at United. Brighton have that young lad in his teens playing at CF for them...we'd never do that, he'd be getting the odd League Cup/Europa League game and probably be sent on loan.
IF we do decide to try to unearth a few more gems, we need a better plan for how we integrate them. When we bought Diallo and Pellistri, for example, we clearly had no plan. Too good for u23s, not ready to start, so caught in limbo. We might have got lucky with Diallo and Sunderland but certainly needs to be thought about more in the future
I think this would be a good signing. Seems odd at face value to be chasing another CB but I personally don't really trust Varane. He's 30+, he's injury prone, he won't play through the pain barrier and I'm not even convinced that he's THAT incredibly good that we can forgive those weaknesses.
If we got this lad from Napoli, i'd personally be expecting him to start and for Varane to be used as backup - whilst still likely making plenty of appearances.
That also clears the way for Maguire and Lindelof to leave and for us to use Shaw as cover at CB
