We do need a new RCB, Varane’s good enough but can’t be trusted due to fitness. This one, combined with his price, seems like a no brainer.

Yes please. He's solid, and for that price a steal. Only 26 so many years of service out of him. Varane is quality and only 29 but because of his fitness record you'd be forgiven for thinking he's sometimes at the end stage of his career and we should be looking to ship him out, it's a shame - and sad - really.

Martinez, Varane and Kim as our main 3 CBs going into next season please.

With Varane’s injury record and needing to be managed, even if Kim started off as a backup CB, he will get plenty of game-time.

With a £42m release clause and only being 26 it’s a no brainer.

Would need to sell Maguire to offset the fee we pay for Kim, especially if the Glazers stay.

I would be happy with this. As annoying as it is to say, look at City with Dias/Stones/Ake/Akanji/Laporte. Crazy depth.

The odd thing is I don't think our fans would have been happy had we signed akanji instead of city but pep has either done shrewd business for him considering what he cost them or he makes players look 2 or 3 times better than they really are like good managers tend to do

Not sure there are many players our fans wouldn't complain about, to be honest.

He will be a great signing and we should get him now. I’ve seen rumours of his clause but we should not wait for that. We will be better served approaching Napoli before that window opens and make a sensible offer to them.

He and his management should be looking at our CB situation and really fancy the chances of getting the most minutes on the pitch per season, even if not signed as a starter.

- Varane, even without the fact he does get injured a lot, needs protecting with precautionary measures to potentially protect him from injuries themselves. He's a carousel between injured and being protected from injury. By default, I suspect Kim would play more games than Varane over a full season.

- Martinez, he's rotated out of the team a fair amount himself and that'll likely be exacerbated next season with his recovery/precautionary program.

Either or, Kim is fielding more times than he's not, in my opinion.

Sensible purchase for us re football and marketing wise.

He is coming in to play a lot for us next season (if he comes) with Varane injury proness and our need to manage him, Martinez with his injury and recovery and maybe the form going to dip at some point. Ideally we really need to have at least 3 starting CBs to compete for the spots. Competition within the club makes player keep working hard and improve their levels.

For that price it really isn't even a discussion. Selling Maguire and Bailly would basically cover the cost.

Get it done please. Varane, Martinez, Kim, Lindelöf and Shaw as CB options would be great !!

Kane, Kim, Martinez (GK) & a top quality CM is the dream summer transfer window.

Emi as a dream signing? Cmon man...

For those who isnt aware of Kim Min Jae much,

he is by far one of the top 3 CBs in the world ahead of all of our current CBs.

Kim is faster than most of our players at the top speed of 35+km/h and is officially faster than Son Heung Min.

His father is a former professional judo athlete and his mother is a former professional track athlete.

I would say he is head and shoulder ahead of Upamecano, Timber, Militao and KK.

As soon as we sign Kim we wont be shouting at our defenders to "Move the farking ball forward~!" Like we always do at Old Trafford.

all Italian CB legends have praised him to be one in a century CB. Take their words for granted. Sign him and retrieve all the fees through our close connection to the Korean market and enjoy watching forward-thinking football on the pitch.
Damn sounds like the perfect CB for us (or anyone)

If we're also in for Osimhem, we can sweeten Napoli up a little here by paying premium for Osimhem

Yeah that sort of release clause is a bargain

Carefully managing Varane as a squad player could be an excellent way to give the squad some depth in the centre back position. He's managed 29 and 30 (or near that) appearances in all competitions in each of his two seasons with us which is not fantastic. He's been a brilliant defender at times this season though and is now retired from international football which could extend his career. I'd be very happy to keep him in the squad and have Min-jae as first choice.

Varane, Martinez, Kim, Lindelof (plus Shaw) would be a fantastic set of CBs.

I know it's FM muppetry but I would go all out for him and Skrinnar on a free and sell (or release):-

Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Jones (anyone else I've forgotten).

CBs of

Varane / Jae (right)
Martinez / Skrinnar (left)

With Shaw (left) and Casemiro (right) as emergency options. I think ETH is very keen to have a left footer and a right footer and this would be immense. Mind you, I would be happy with 8 in and about 12 out which I know is completely unrealistic!!

You can go all out for Škriniar all you want but he's going to PSG.

Plus he's right-footed and plays on the right side of central defense.

Just another stupid tweet. Why would Kim and his agent agreed with this arrangement?
The point is to get to talk to him before Jul so they can let him know of their offer and that it won’t be valid in July once other clubs are in the talks.

It’s up to him and his agent to decide if they want to gamble on another team beating that offer or to take the guaranteed money.

Doesn't make sense. Why would that Club make their offer invalid, just because other Clubs are interested later?? That surely raise a red flag about that Club confidence of giving the best offer.

To pressure him into agreeing a deal before his release clause is valid. It’s basically giving a bigger signing on bonus if he agrees on a deal before Jul. Once his release clause is valid, our offer will be more aligned to what others are giving.

It’s a gamble.

What?? So that Club will pay Napoli's more, to be able to give him a bigger signing on bonus. That still doesn't make sense to me. But heyho.., I'm just ordinary fans.

It’s a gamble by both parties.

The club gets a free run at him without any competition and potentially save some money to avoid a bidding war with other clubs. The player can take the guaranteed money or gamble that other clubs will blow that offer away.

What bidding war? There's a fix release clause. Now it's only a matter of sign on bonus and wages, which each Club wouldn't know what the other offers.
Surely in terms of having bigger chance to entice the player, it's better to give the player more money, instead of giving Napoli more money.

Anyway. Unless his agent is super stupid, the agent must have talked to interested Clubs and knows their offers.

Much better option for us than Timber imo

Doesn't make any sense, why would we pay more than the clause so we don't let the player choose?

Any team that does pay the release club doesn't need to negotiate with Napoli and can start negotiations with the player. Ultimately it will come to the player to choose where does he want to play, independently if us or any other team pay the clause or above it.

The only reason to pay more than the release clause is to show good faith to the selling team when a player is more valuable than the clause settled.
