Don’t know if he was referring to this but in the final there were several examples of AWB pressing higher up the pitch and winning the ball backHow does a team press high and which game did we effectly press high in with Wan Bissaka?
We pressed high against Villareal for the first 20 minutes where they couldn’t get out of their own half literally one game ago. AWB was a key part of that. He wins the ball high loads of times. Please tell me why AWB, a fast, strong footballer who is exceptional at tackling struggles to press high? What attribute does he lack for this task? How does a team press high and which game did we effectly press high in with Wan Bissaka?
I'm not gonna get into a debate with you mate. You're someone I get on well with, so I don't want to ruin that and will maintain our alliance even if I have to conceded to you.Don’t know if he was referring to this but in the final there were several examples of AWB pressing higher up the pitch and winning the ball back
I'm asking you how does a team press high? There's a sequence involved, can you tell me what that is and what players are involved and in which game(s) we implemented it from back to front to good effect? We pressed high against Villareal for the first 20 minutes where they couldn’t get out of their own half literally one game ago. Wasn't meant to be personal, I hope I didn't hurt your feelings Mr Flake.
That would be difficult working nights, but I'm here to put you guys to sleep with something to think about.Better be careful, mate. You're footballing God status could going down the drain if you give us anymore silly statements. Best to sleep on it.
I couldn’t give two fecks about your condescending question. I’m not going to prove I’m worthy of debating you. You stated it was laughable that people on this forum thought AWB would fit into a high pressing high line. What attributes does AWB lack to do that?I'm asking you how does a team press high? Sometimes it's easy to just admit you know very little about the things you're posting about. It wasn't meant to be condescending so I apologise if I came across in such a way.I couldn’t give two fecks about your condescending question. I’m not going to prove I’m worthy of debating you. Going back to England I guess. Playing in CL too (maybe even beyond group stages). Atletico won the league but most of English players seem to prefer playing in PL, so maybe after 2 years in Madrid he'd like a return home. Possibly bigger wages at United than at Atletico as well. I'd be happy if we get him, AWB cannot play all the time.I get why United would want him and it would be awesome for a club to have two solid RB’s to choose from, but I’m puzzled as to why Trippier would want the move. Why leave a big club (a title winning club) where you’re a nailed on starter and therefor are in the England squad to rotate with another great RB at United? He’d basically be cutting his minutes in half.
Don’t worry mate - you’re not condescending at all. Go back to to telling us about how some unknown 17 year old kid from Ecuador we’re linked with is going to walk into our first team you amazing font of football knowledge you.Sometimes it's easy to just admit you know very little about the things you're posting about. I'm sure someone else will answer the question soon, because it's a simple thing to explain.
Once again you show your lack of understanding of the game. You don't pair Koopmeiners with Pogba in a midfield two, it would be suicide. I can understand peope suggesting Declan Rice but Koopmeiners, no. Fast forward one year and I don't see Pogba, as the solution to our issues in a midfield two.Put us to sleep with those ridiculous statements more like.
What im not going to do is argue with you, only for you to inadvertenly agree with me (us) a couple months down the line. You know, kind of what you did when you spent days debating about Koopmeiners. Would love to but havent got the time. Enjoy your night shift!

Cultural reboot or somethingSo what's going on in here then?
a debate doesn't have to ruin a budding friendship. Just have a mature conversation with someone you get on with.I'm not gonna get into a debate with you mate. You're someone I get on well with, so I don't want to ruin that and will maintain our alliance even if I have to conceded to you.
I’m patiently waiting for someone to explain to me why AWB isn’t able to function in a high press. Adnan could do it but I haven’t watched the relevant YouTube videos to understand it. Many times with my eyes when we do press high I’ve seen Bruno/Cavani act as a trigger to press the goalkeeper, forcing them to pass to the left cb, Greenwood then hovers inside to block the central passing lane which is when AWB presses on the fullback and wins the ball back or forces them to go inside where Bruno/Mctominay are waiting. It’s a pattern of play that happens regularly but AWB isn’t fit to do this task. There’s an obvious reason why his acceleration and tackling skills are useless at this task but I’m failing to see it.So what's going on in here then?
When we talk about pressing high or counter pressing we aren't only talking about off the ball work. There's literally dozens of fullbacks around Europe who are adept at enforcing the wide pressing trap but nobody would want them at United.
So to implement the high press with counter pressing capabilities you also need
players who are strong technically which will enhance the build up phase, on the ball, which is even more important if we want to impose our game on the opposition and control the game. And this is where we're lacking with several players who are better off the ball than on the ball.
Feel free to disagree but what Andy Mitten has reported is absolutely spot on, as far I'm concerned.
Good post mate.My 2 cents for this debate:
A) I guess, there might be some sort of communication issue happening because if you use specific terms, you know what they are and what they arent, while many others don't know that at all or at least not your take on the terms. Watching this forum, you could get the impression, that United in some games "was pressing really well" because our midfielders and strikers occasionally attacked loose balls in the built up. That doesn't mean they facilitated some organized press. (Not saying we never do, but there were games where we didn't really press but still some said so).
B) I am pretty sure, someone is working with AWB on his technical skills because I thought, especially in the closing month or two he was way more comfortable on the ball. Granted somebody has to act and address an issue, when it is obvious that opposition is targeting that weakness.
I am all up for Trippier. Right age profile and could initiate a fire in AWB to fix his weaknesses. Being great defensively is great but fullbacks in the modern game are vital elements. Many teams are better off having a well rounded fullback rather than a specialist defender. Not necessarily saying that this applies to us but we might be suprised how different the team might look having a comfortable ball player there. (Especially when we get Sancho who thrived playing with Hakimi and will need the support of the fullback for some of his magic).
Wan Bissaka is not great defensively. He's very precise when he goes to ground to tackle, which looks nice and all, but what does he have other than this? His positioning and awareness is poor, he's a liability aerially, and he's clearly targeted by our opposition for these shortcomings.
It's not that easy to maintain top form when switching between players. Understanding between players also an issue. Just because CB A, and midfielder B plays well with RB C, doesn't mean they would do the same with RB D.Let's put it this way, in games we'll be attacking a lot we play Trippier, when we play the likes of City or Pool Bisaka plays.
This would be a good signing for us as we need someone who can constantly whip in telling balls from that right hand side and Trippier does that in his sleep.
We played 2 games a week all season, they'll be fine. Gives us a lot more tactical flexibility too. It's not that easy to maintain top form when switching between players. Btw, who are we?
Hope so, but from what we had seen, Ole would end up sticking to certain players, even if it meant running them into ground, and the back up players barely able to get any form for when we need themWe played 2 games a week all season, they'll be fine. Gives us a lot more tactical flexibility too.
I'd say its risky in theory. In practice when Terry or Wan Bisakka go to ground they usually win the ball. I think thats a fairly passive, avoid making mistakes outlook on defending. Tackles have their place.I’m sure there’s the notion that if you have to go to ground a lot you’re hiding a lot of problems with your defending.
The Rio v Terry debate was based around that side of thing If I remember correctly.
To spend £50 million on a right-back only for a year later the manager to be unsatisfied with his attacking output, Wan-Bissaka was never a Dani Alves just seems poor planning.
This is the definition of a sensible signing.
Well that's more on Ole... Trippier is the perfect type of player we need in there to compete with AWB. If we sort that out, the wing, and the midfield and defensive unit, then it'll all be on Ole to prove if he can be successful or not, as he'll have the squad capable of success, with no more complaints.Hope so, but from what we had seen, Ole would end up sticking to certain players, even if it meant running them into ground, and the back up players barely able to get any form for when we need them
I think the only idiots are those who welcomed the signing of AWB after Solskjaer had made it quite clear he wanted to press high and play a high line.
Seems like the same move as what we did we Telles complementing Shaw. This is even more important for right because Trippier by all accounts is better on the ball than AWB and we currently have zero back up there.
The point is, options and squad depth. I like how we target players the last 2 years. There is a squad building logic to it. The new arrangements in the backroom seem to be making an impact.
