Kevin De Bruyne

Its going to come out eventually that City players official wages are only the half of it. There's some under the table shit going on to keep these players at a club like Man City.

They have the best manager in the world and basically guarantee major trophies.

Risky business going after a player that one of PSG or Man City want to keep.

Look what happened to Barca when they were pursuing Varratti. They have feck you money and aren't afraid to use it to send a message.

Worth noting that situation at that point was fairly specific, Neymar wanted out and he was IMO the only valuable player in Barcelona that would even entertain moving to Paris (and look how that turned out). They could have paid Messi's clause and he'd just have laughed at them.

He's on course to be the best CM in PL history. He will be the captain and at 28 its almost set for him to dominate for the next 4 seasons.

That's a fair point actually.

Nuclear deterrent.

Now they do. They kept a hold of Kompany, Aguero and Silva long before that. If that was any other club, they'd have all marched out as soon as they barely made the Champions League that year.

Yeah, but even if they failed there are plenty of other ways in which they can use their unlimited resources to cause suffering to a club they have a hard on for.

Neville was comparing him to Beckham and Gerrard delivery wise, I think he is better actually. His laser precision not only in the air but along the floor long distance to feet is scary

That would contribute a lot into making him that player yeah. KDB is a player who exploits his ability close to 100% in much more games than Pogba
Agreed but I think a lot of that is due to the manager when comparing him to Pogba. He's unquestionably a great player though.

Best CM in PL history?
Objectively speaking which CM that has played in the PL does KDB have no chance of overtaking?

He's obviously not the best yet but he definitely has the chance to be.

Players such as?

Steven Gerarrd for one, Neville mentioned him in the commentary in comparison

There are not detailed stats for his whole career but for his later career there are some

https://www.whoscored.com/Players/17/History/Steven-Gerrard

In his best season there he beats KDB's best goals and assists total, beats him on pass completion, on defensive work, on successful long passes, loses the ball less than him through dispossessions and bad touches and when you're looking at leadership qualities I don't think anyone would argue that KDB is better. That's all playing in an much inferior side to this Man City one. KDB beats him in key passes but not much else.

Plus KDB hasn't been here all that long. He's a top top player of course and perhaps he could achieve what you say but he isn't breaking new ground really.

That's all I'm saying is that he can. He's obviously behind Gerrard for now but if he dominates over the next 4 seasons as I said in my first post it is possible he could surpass Gerrard. KDB is entering his prime years.
Yaya "Bday Cake" Touré, Scholes, Keane, Lampard, Xabi Alonso, Mascherano, Makélélé, Vieira and probably others.
I watched every single one of those midfielders year in year out in the PL and there's not one player in that list that is out of reach from De Bruyne. Now its very possible he doesn't end up being better than them but he could.

No one is questioning his ability, rather the circumstances of his tenure. I think the best example is that even when he missed large parts of last season, City still performed as the stand out team.

Thus it's a case, yes he is absolutely brilliant but when or rather how frequent are the situations where he has had to play under adversity or rather be expected (and therefore under more pressure) to be the to deliver?

It's not a 'solid' argument against him but it's just a slight that's also valid i.e he's playing in near optimal conditions so it's really hard to compare 'fairly'.

He's probably the best player in the league but some of you're getting way OTT with 'best CM in PL' stuff.

He's playing in an insanely stacked City side with quality all around him, I mean they just won the PL with 97 points last season despite him. The system and tactics of Guardiola is making number of City players look like they are level or two above their actual ability.

There was a thread about Pogba being it last year, so surely you can live with such wild opinions that claim De Bruyne is... :)

EDIT: Ah, you mean like ever. Got it...

Look I know he puts a great ball in and supplied 2 assists but man he seems to have lost some of his mobility. I know I may sound silly saying this after today but I think he has declined. Doesn't have the same oomph imo. Still a very good player though.

Agreed. He seems to be hugging a single position and relying on his admittedly brilliant crossing technique.

Completely agree.

If you were to design a football robot AI you would come with De Bruyne. Cheat code

Fantastic today, well on top of his game. Spurs giving him way too much space though

He's so good it's sickening to watch from this side of Manchester. I replied to your post because I agree that he was given "acres of space" as they say. He was afforded too much space which never hurts his cause as he's already so damn good.

I used to think that he was the head of City's snake and they'd badly falter without him but then then last year happened. An incredibly good player but I'd take Pogba over him as best player in the Premier league. Only God knows what Pogba could do surrounded by the likes of what KDB has at his disposal.

Very good player in a great city team but until he carries his title winning side through a season he can’t be classed in the league of Keane, Viera, Toure etc. Hope he doesn’t either
