Kevin De Bruyne

But that just shows you the quality of what Jose had when he let these players go. TBF, these players weren’t playing anywhere near what they are now and players move on to find minutes all the time. Players don’t always mature in any club they play in. Sometimes moving on gives them a bit more initiative to put in that bit of extra and it allows them to move up to the next level. The environmental and the players around them plays a big part in their development as well.

He got 2 starts under Mourinho, what are you talking about? As if he regularly got to play but underperformed. He got 2 (!) starts and not a single full 90 minute game. Then he went to Wolfsburg and set a Bundesliga record for assists and won Germany's Player of the Year.

Exactly! And he was man of the match in 1 of the 2 starts!

He obviously wasn't this good back then otherwise Mourinho wouldn't have got rid. He isn't that stupid. Any manager would love to have KDB in their team.

Wasnt it more that De Bruyne wanted to start and Mourinho couldnt guarantee that. So, De Bruyne chose to leave?

Anyway, who gives a feck? Not like Salah or De Bruyne played for United.

Heres a quote:

"He also made it clear that he wasn’t keen on letting me go, even not on loan – ‘you are a good player’. I’ve told him that I had a feeling that I would never get a fair chance. That’s when the club started looking at a transfer too."

As has been said he started two games and was motm in one. Mourinho must have had a reason to get rid.

Hands down my favourite player to watch, and if maintained for a few more years will surpass all of Silva, Yaya and Aguero as City’s greatest in the modern era. It won’t even be a contest, he’s that good.

Currently, only second to Messi as the most joyful player to watch, in my opinion.

De Bruyne is a bit of a red ass. He likes challenge people. Mourinho is the same way De Bruyne didn’t play because Jose won’t play players who don’t fall in line.

That’s what I remember as well. He wasn’t happy he wasn’t playing as much as he thought he should and wanted to go. Jose didn’t get rid like most here say.

On here, people will believe what they want to believe tho...

My favourite City player after Silva, technically gifted and hard worker in same measure. Has all the elements to be one of the best players in the world, like how he ups his performance in big games as well. Hopefully he stays in the EP for a good while and Real-Barcelona stay away

Nonsense. Both KDB & Salah played well before arriving under Mou and flourished after leaving, isn't merely a question of initiative

Agreed.

He’s the best player to watch in the league. Since accepting City would win the league months ago, if I do bother to tune in to watch, it’s just to see him.

Look across City’s team and it’s good obviously, but I wouldn’t say any particular individual is markedly better than their counterparts at other clubs.

Except De Bruyne. And De Bruyne elevates everyone to another level, he’s that sort of player, and is perfect for the system.

Also one of the biggest grafters in the PL. He’d still be effective with half he graft. But that puts him on another level.

For me he’s a better, smarter and more two footed version of Gerrard, with a greater ceiling, and will of course lead a team to a league title.

It was clear as hell to me and I posted as much in 2012 that De Bruyne would be a world class player Mourinho was letting his ego push the 2nd best player on the team, and Chelsea would rue selling him.

De Bruyne took freakin’ Wolfsburg to 2nd place in the Bundesliga and won the Pokal in 2014-2015. Have you seen where they’ve finished after he left? 8th, 16th, and currently they’re in 13th.

De Bruyne has continued to improve but acting like was some nobody before this year is being ignorant. He’s been world class for at least 4 years. It’s only this year that he’s stepped up and is having a Ballon D’or type year.

Volkswagen reduced the support for the club massively because of "Dieselgate". I don't want to diminish KDB's impact on the Wolfsburg team but a lot things went wrong during the last years.

Same here. I follow the Bundesliga a lot living over here in Czech and clear as day this lad was top class. Cannot believe we didnt go for him

Have you been surprised by his God-like stamina levels this season? I have no idea where that came from; honestly some of the things he has done in that regard would make Kante extremely proud. It’s surreal watching it.

Indeed. There's some revisionism going on. Salah destroyed us in the CL home and away when we played against Basel. He scored the decisive and only goals in both legs.

Not sure I agree with the sentiment entirely, only because we actually spend 70-80% of the average game on the ball, which is relatively efficient. The opposition are expending more energy and then we are able to offer high intensity off the ball. He does always come off looking knackered though.

Actually, as you rightly point out, his full season at Wolfsburg already was every bit as good as he's playing now. It only becomes a 'Ballon d'or type year' as he's featuring in one of the prominent clubs, and in a more star-studded team, now.

He's also showing incredible endurance. Doesn't miss a game and still hits the heights week in week out.

Hell of an engine underneath all the class. Gutted he's a City player.

My brother is an ST holder at City and he says his increase in work rate is incredible.

And the irony is that Salah was largely bought based on how he played against Chelsea

Three assists (so far) this evening v Leicester. It's not reinventing football what he's doing - merely putting the ball between defence and goalkeeper and giving his attackers a pass to attack (and usually within the frame of the goal, six-yards out, so finishes are relatively simple), but have we ever seen somebody do it with such consistency and unyielding accuracy?

If I was an opposition fan, I'd clap him off as he left the field. Hate City, but cant help but admire how good this boy is.

It's his consistency but also the fact that his assists are being finished which means he can keep doing it
If the players were missing chances it's possible he may go himself (that's an assumption based on nothing)

He does make it look so simple and easy

What is this vision and passing, its godlike. He is on Messi level.

Unbelievable Mourinho would deem him surplus. He is the complete midfield general who can score, create, dictate, pass short, long and work hard physically.

Given that he is by far the best player in the league currently, it seems crazy. I'd like to know what Jose didn't see in him tbh. SAF's biggest mistake was Pogba, in terms of players. KDB is surely Jose's

Mourinho has a nasty habit of dumping really top young prospects then questioning their professionalism to justify it

In Salah lukaku and KDB. He's sold maybe 300-350m worth in today's fees for less than 50 and an idiot knew them players would make it given a chance

Oscar

A combo of City fawning and Mourinho bashing. Bluecafe is gonna be on fire tonight.

SAF didn't sell Pogba. It was a mistake not to play him but he would never have let Pogba leave if he had the choice
