Kasper Schmeichel

He was 2nd choice for Monaco and Sampdoria before he joined us on a free.

In that time Kasper was first choice at a Championship club, a club that was a shit show and nearly got relegated and then miraculously won the league. I'm pretty sure Romero would have been first choice at any Championship club to be fair. Romero was clearly at bigger clubs with far better competition that Kasper has faced. I mean he has DDG in front of him ffs. I don't even rate Romero that highly but there's no way he's clearly inferior to Kasper.

Keane would be a clear upgrade on Jones on Smalling, Jones because he'd be available a lot more, & Smalling because he is the better player, I'm not saying he should be our only defensive purchase, but I'd have no issue if Jose partnered him with Bailly as first choice next season, after all we were all calling for Rojo to leave & look how he improved under Jose, Keane is certainly at a better starting point than Rojo was this time last year, and he's a United kid, so they'd be none of this looking elsewhere further down the line.

The DDG situation is different as he's near impossible to replace like for like, if we get Greizmann we won't get Oblak, no chance we get Courtois, or Lloris, the young Ac Milan player who people talk about could be a risky option, no way we should be looking at Hart, my point is the pool of keepers isn't huge, and Kasper isn't as bad a option as some would have you think.

Nah, I'm not even a Smalling fan but if he were at Burnley I'm pretty sure he would be standing out just as much as Keane. He would be an upgrade on Jones, yes. So again, absolutely no one is calling him rubbish or anything, they are saying he would be fine as a Smalling / Jones replacement but we should be aiming higher and signing a better CB too, to be first choice. Otherwise, we aren't making any significant improvements.

Aye, replacing DDG is hard. But we can do better than Kasper. It's nothing to do with sexy names, it's to do with the fact that he's pretty average and there are plenty of better options.

Kasper has been first choice at a premier league club for 3 years. Romero was 2nd choice at similar sized clubs for 2 seasons before he even joined us so DDG is irrelevant here. In fact Romero had to join a 2nd division club to be a regular in Italy and he was eventually dropped and released from there as well.

Again, if Romero had joined a Championship club that then got promoted, it's pretty feasible that he would be a PL keeper. Also again, I don't rate Romero really but there's no clear quality difference between the two. Maybe Kasper is better maybe not, if he is it's marginal as opposed to clear.

Yeah, no. Rating a keeper much higher who actually plays week in week out and has done for years over someone who's not been first choice for years. Shocker indeed. But he's first choice for Argentina!!! Given your absurd logic you probably think Navas and Romero are fairly close as well.

Whats that got to do witth ability.? Because he has been mostly a back up does not mean Kasper is a clear upgrade over him.

Notts County too right?

He joined Monaco when Subasic was very good, the move in itself made no sense and he was 2nd choice at Sampdoria because they wanted to sell him for wage reasons, iirc.

That's conjecture. We don't really know that. Given he was in the exact same situation as Kasper (Playing for a promoted team) and ended up getting dropped it's really not clear cut at all.

Even with ability, Kasper pulls of excellent saves while being good with crosses as well. Romero ends up flapping a lot in the few games he has played. But even ignoring ability, I'd much rather have a keeper who's been a regular week in week out for years (especially in a physical league like England) than someone who's used to being 2nd choice for years.

He isnt clearly better than Romero. Move on from it ffs.

Of course it's conjecture, hence why I said feasible.

Romero vs this fanny, WTF, neither are good enough to be our #1 and shouting a lot doesn't make you a leader or a big personality, it just makes you a big mouth.

I find it incredible that people actually want Romero to be our no 1.. Yes, he has been good so far in the EL, but has also shown why he is our back-up keeper. He is not good enough to be first choice at United. Never will be.

Kasper? Well, he knows the PL and would be a good choice for a couple of seasons. Better than getting a young 18 years old keeper from Italy. He is clearly a huge talent, but the difference from Serie A to PL is massive. It would be a big change in all ways for Donnarumma, and not a risk we skould take for that kind of money.

Oblak is my prefered choice. But Kasper, I wouldn't rule him out..

Romero and Kasper are at similar levels, but if I had to choose, it would be Romero, as he seems a better overall, beyond just the shot stopping ability.

Under no circumstances should we go ahead and buy this guy to replace Big Dave, unless Romero leaves.

Why wouldn't we set our targets higher, we're Manchester United.

Sentimental feelings aside, I think he's just short of the quality.

I've kept quiet but feck it I actually said in another thread Kasper would be my pick to replace DDG if he went, he's a lot better than is being made out in this thread and has been in very good form for the last 2 seasons

I don't want to see DDG leave but Kasper wouldn't be a bad replacement, especially when you factor in he'd cost peanuts compared to what we'd get for De Gea

I think Kasper is a good keeper, a tier below the best keepers in the league.

"I've kept really quiet but I tell ya, I'd love it if we signed him, love it".

I'd replace Romero with Schmikes if he left, not DDG though. Love the way he plays, his bravery, the way he charges out and clatters players etc. but DDG is a class up , we'll need that extra level if he leaves.

And I don't know if his distribution suits the way we play nowdays either - his long range is great but his short stuff/ball playing is only good - most of the time we don't get to play on the counter so he'd be conceding possession way too much.

Who would you go for? Only other keeper comparable to De Gea is Neuer, who would never leave Bayern for us, let's be honest. Someone like Oblak would be a very good replacement.

Does anyone think there's any substance to the rumours of Romero joining one of the Milan clubs?

I think he´s brilliant and likable too, so it would annoy me a little bit, if he were to replace De Gea. It would obviously be better than De Gea staying, though.

Keys saying de gea out kasper in

Oh god not this again... At least the source is only hairy hands.

Would be a terrible move for our backup, Romero is much better.
Agreed.
Don't believe it anyway. The only way it happens is if Romero wanted to leave. But can't see Kasper coming in to sit on the bench and be No.2, therefore calling B.S. on this.
