Very surprised that so many people think Nuno will go before Benzema does. Before Benzema signed, Ronaldo was probably the only big name in the Saudi League, now Benzema is merely one of dozens and the statement of signing him has already accomplished one of its key ambitions by putting the league on the map.

Saudi will find a host of alternative big names to replace players like Benzema, but for the moment Nuno is the highest rated manager in the league, and the second most high-profile after Gerrard. It has been documented that the Saudi league is setting its sights on recruiting managers, it's the logical next step if they want to properly import and institutionalise modern tactics and training from abroad to make their project endure, as well as to have bigger characters that are capable of managing teams full of very large egos.

Besides, getting rid of a high-profile manager in favour of a player would send the opposite of a statement of intent from the league, it'll suggest to us all that they don't want to be anything other than the retirement home many see them as, and it will chill potentially top managerial prospects from coaching there.

Not true. Benzema was a shadow and a passenger last season. He barely could run and was a liability to the team.

Fair but I was commenting on what I think the other post meant, that he was done with his elite competitive career (on top of reaching an age where decline was inevitable) and he left after winning the most prestigious individual award, a bunch of CLs and finally being recognized as a key Real leader. Thus United probably wouldn't interest him anyway because there's no way it wouldn't be a tarnished underwhelming comeback.

No thanks. I mean, this fecker, as great as he has been, has been done for blackmail. If we are taking the moral high ground, we would stay away from him. Besides, his wage would be ridiculous, and i'd imagine his performances would be laboured.

I think meant "done" drive wise. Benzema left for Saudi at the absolute peak of his career.

Yeah, just as he was hitting his prime.

What a fecking shame we'll never know what he could have done if he stayed in a big league for about 15 years.

Are people honestly talking about signing him? He's on more than what's currently left of our transfer budget I'm weekly wages and past his best.

Can we loan him from them and just pay a "Sensible" part of his wages?

You guys asking for loan deals et al realize that he is on something like 200m a year, right?

Are you not belittling the fact that Benzema is the current FIFA Balon Dor and UEFA Mens Player of the year. I am pretty sure that means more to Saudis than Nunos credentials.

1) He'll never be allowed to leave. Nuno will get sacked waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before they even think of Benzema leaving

2) He's, allegedly, been involved in a blackmail scandal. If we'd show interest, would our fanbase be up in arms again seeing as though he, allegedly, is a wrong'un

I can't understand how a player like Benzema could 'not fit' into a tactical style. That smells like horse shit to me.

Sure, but Benzema can still play in Saudi Arabia, just not for Al-Ittihad.

Getting rid of Nuno will send a message that big name players cannot be undermined in the Saudi Pro League, it'll dissuade some future managers from going to manage for fear of the player politics. It'd look pretty unserious of them and I'm sure would be an act of self-harm for their next phase of league development.

Moving Benzema onto another Saudi Pro League team would affirm a sense of competitiveness and plurality within the league that they'd be keen to project.

I can imagine the conversation between the manager and the board.

Nuno: “Benzema just doesn’t fit into our plans. He’s not suited with what we are trying to do.”

Board: “We completely understand and are fully supportive of your views. Therefore, thank you for your services and we wish you all the best in your future career.”

Seems the situation with the club is getting pretty bad.
Cheeky bid in jan?

I mean we do have a history with signing an aging striker. Wouldn't oppose it. After all, the last time we signed an old striker that in January it either propel us to title winner or get us in top 3. Win win imo :D

If he was available for a loan to the end of the season, he wouldn't be the worst option going, depending on who's going to pay his wages.

But I just don't see it happening.

Jesus, stay away from Benzema, even Saudi pundits are calling him lazy.

He is on €100m net(!) per year. He is not going anywhere.
