What? He is a better player than Rashford, although Rashford is the better goal scorer.
Well if you're looking for goals and direct threat from the left, Rashford is a far superior player. For creativity and the ability to beat a man, Mitoma is obviously better. Depends what you're wanting.

I really don't agree that Rashford is more threatening from the left than Mitoma. Most of the time he just runs into defenders.

Brighton's xpG being the highest in the league can be credited massively to Mitoma.

Rashford scored 30 last season. Mitoma scored 11.

As I already said, Mitoma is the more skilful and creative player of the two, but for sheer goal threat there's no comparison.

Really interesting career for him. He's already 26 and was still playing in Japan a couple of years ago. Comes into the PL and looks quality. I wonder how well he was rated in Japan

I already said Rashford was more of a goal threat, but you're not taking into account that United played more games than Brighton and he also played a decent amount more in PL games than Mitoma.

Another reason he is more of a goal threat is because Mitoma is a winger and Rashford is not. Rashford occupies the central area and a lot of his goals are one-on-one with the keeper centrally or tap-ins. He had some absolute world class goals and some great headers, but again these are more striker goals from the central area as opposed to Mitoma who mostly stays wide and takes players on wide.

I wasn't necessarily talking about goal threat, but more an attacking threat in general. I'd much rather prefer Mitoma with the ball on the left than Rashford with it, as I believe he is more likely to make something happen.

Last season was also an "anomaly" for Rashford in terms of goals. The only other season he got over 11 goals in PL was 2019/20, in which he scored 17, but 6 of those were penalties. Last season, all of his PL goals were open-play goals.
I really don't think he is going to have a similar season now, but I hope so as he, yet again, seems to be our only hope.

Another interesting thing is that he purposely postponed his professional career. At 18 he was offered a contract with one of the better clubs in Japan, but he went to university instead. So he's kind of the opposite of Wayne Rooney, who started out super young and was pretty much finished before turning 30. I reckon Mitoma's physical age is several years younger than 26.

In Rooney's case it had just as much to do with his drinking as it did miles on the clock and genetics.

Didn't he make his PL debut at age 16 or something wild like that? But yes, better conditioning would have helped. Ronaldo is just a year older and was top class for an additional 4-5 years.

Surprised no one has gone for him. Delightful player.

He is the kind of player that makes you fall in love with the game. Unfortunately he will cost a bomb. Such a delightful player to watch.

He did, but he also used to drink himself stupid. Ronaldo was playing for Sporting at either 16 or 17, I can't remember. So not vastly different.

I really don’t understand this kind of comment. Not a personal attack at you, it just reeks of entitlement as a sentiment.

Why are you surprised nobody has gone for him (read: taken him from little Brighton)?

Maybe it’s the astronomical fee we’d demand for him for starters?

Again, not having a go at you personally, but how many more players do we need to sign, develop, become stars then sell for huge fees before we get some respect?

Thats a strange reply, surely your track record of selling your stronger players pver the past 2-3 seasons is evidence of the clubs approach? Its not disrespectful towards Brighton, its just the clubs model isnt it?

Eh? You’re having a go at someone for suggesting he’s surprised nobody has gone for one of your players by saying the fact you do in fact constantly sell your players means you can’t suggest surprise at someone not trying to buy one of your players? Am I in some bizarro world?

You are part of a food chain. Accept it.

It is just a business, and every player has a price including CR7 back in 2009. No need to take it personal.

I would totally sign him up. Background check should be a breeze given he was living and playing in Japan prior to this.

Sell Rashford and Sancho to Saudi, spend big and end up with

Olise - Hojlund - Mitoma

Be a huge improvement
