Mentally ill people can be pricks just like everyone else can be - but if somebody with a mental illness is a prick then they are just a prick who happens to have a mental illness. Being mentally ill does not excuse or give reason to somebody acting like a dick. It is a fact that people with a mental illness are some of the most vulnerable people in our society and reading some of the posts in here just goes to show how much ignorance there still is about it. People are people and some people are arseholes and some are not. Some people are right wing facists and some people arent - this has nothing to do with mental illness.

The only caveat that I will add is that sometimes if a person has Schizophrenia and is experiencing command hallucinations, or a person with Bi-Polar or a psychotic depression becomes unwell then they can appear to act strangely and sometimes unfortunately can become aggressive but mostly they attack themselves rather than other people - usually they appear very paranoid and fearful. Having facist and racist views are something totally different from this.

I really don’t think that the trajectory of the above-mentioned’s views are comparable to Kanye’s and he had been on a downward spiral for a while now.

Meh. Kanye was noted to have mental health issues long before he went on this far right bent, whereas someone like Alex Jones was happy to claim his shtick was him playing a character as soon as he landed in court for child custody issues. Have the likes of Trump, Fox or Jones actually been diagnosed with something as serious as bipolar disorder? Or been hospitalised for mental health reasons as Kanye was in 2016?

I would say there's good reason for the mental health conversation around Kanye beyond him having once been "cool".

I've worked in mental health for almost 15 years - I've been reluctant to play the 'I know stuff about this' card but it's getting increasingly difficult to read some of the stuff in this thread without doing it. I've worked closely with people diagnosed with Bi-Polar many times, some of whom didn't take their medications and became very unwell. I watched the infowars interview and my observation was that this is not somebody currently having a manic episode. There was no pressure of speech and he didn't appear agitated or distracted. If he was having a period of mania it would be very clear this was the case. I see no evidence of this in his behaviour at all.

They are much more likely to have been cultivated when he was well which would have probably been most of the time. You don't suddenly become radicalised because you are having a manic episode, in my opinion much less likely actually because a person's concentration is so impaired by mania it's unlikely he would be able to focus on something long enough to take it in. Paranoia (which could be something that changes our perception of other people) is something that can be a feature of mental illness, but that is generally with Schizophrenia. Bi-Polar as you are probably aware is an illness that impacts on mood. Sometimes people can become psychotic when severely depressed as well but that is quite rare.

There are many non-white white supremacists in this world. As a person of Indian descent I see it in some who share my heritage. The moniker of "Uncle Tom" didn't come out of nowhere either. Granted, most aren't outright neo nazis like Kanye, but there are many non-white white supremacists.
