If that is the general consensus he can't be that good then. I've not watched him therefore I have no idea how good he is. But imo we need to sign players who will be significant upgrades to the first team.
If the guy doesn’t back himself to earn a starting spot in our shit show of a defence then I’d really have to question his mentality.
For me personally it's too early to comment on restructuring that but yeah, I do think we should be going in faster for our #1 targets. No point in dragging straightforward deals like Timber. Deals like De jong are going to take time unfortunately.

I'm being quite serious honestly. I can't see what's holding up the deal when none of the parties involved are against the deal happening. In case of De Jong i certainly understand that it is going to drag.
Timber will be competing with the most expensive CB in the world and a 4 CL winner CB for a first team place. That's a challenge for anyone unless of course we're talking of a Van Dijk. On the bright side the very manager who made him now wants him at his new team. Varane is injury prone, Maguire is not that great and Timber can play in multiple roles. I think he's got a decent chance of making it with United
Andy O’Boyle was appointed for that, not that I know who the feck he is.
He probably just realises that he could do with another season at Ajax before making the jump. Plenty of players have made the same assessment in that environment.
Aside from that, Ajax have already lost Mazraoui and Gravenberch so his status in that team will be elevated as other youngsters come into those positions. Makes sense to stay put a year.
Save him for next season - we need a centre back every summer anyway, so at least we'll have a head start in 2023. We're completely without a left-footer right now - that's where the focus should be this window.

Aye last thing we need is another flakey player in the back line. This will come down to whether ETH can convince him to join or not. If we receive any indication he doesn’t want to sign then I’d hope we’d move swiftly onto Carmo. The quicker we do our business the better.

We need ten Hag to give him a call and convince him then. First half of the season he should be saved being guarateed as starting XI because we wouldn't spend the money and sign him to be backup. He's still so young, he shouldn't be afraid of losing his spot in one world cup and that world cup he's not even above de Ligt, VVD, and de Vrij in pecking order.

He may be dropped for more experienced players if he has struggles adapting and may push him out of the NT. Bear in mind that the Dutch have de Vrij, van Dijk and de Ligt as their CB options so Timber is facing an uphill battle for the national team as is.

That's an entirely reasonable concern for him to have given that he's 20 years old and, in spite of many peoples' insistence to the contrary, it's likely he'd have to adjust to the physicality of the Premier League. I don't see what the United management is supposed to do differently here; promise him that he'll be starting every game even if we're not confident on that? That hasn't exactly gone well for us in the past...

A lot of people with the knives out this morning it seems. A transfer is rarely plain sailing, there'll be posturing and spoofing along the way and media getting involved creating twists to sell stories. I still see this as a likely transfer, just need to be patient
We have McTominay in midfield as our starter. Our midfield is Fred and McT. That's it. Obviously we need couple of more midfielders immediately. And we have Cavani leaving, and Greenwood left, and even Lingard/Mata left. We definitely need one more forward. And AWB is leaving, so we need one RB as well. Those 4 are the bare minimum.
Yes we need a CB as well, but if we promote Mengi, we will have 4 centrebacks for 2 positions. Maguire and Lindelof barely get injured anyway. All I'm saying is we have more pressing issues.

Get him in ASAP. I am more excited about him joining than De Jong because of our defensive requirements and his attainability. Varane and him should be an amazing pair. He may also be an upgrade if played ahead of Wan Bissaka/Dalot. One, if not both of them, should be sold.
Mengi is always injured and not good enough in my opinion.
maguire and Lindelof both spent a good portion of time injured last season as did Varane. Last season we still had Bailly, Jones and matic to cover. Bailly and Jones want out. Matic is gone
