I know it's mentioned constantly but it's a general concern. Havn't even seen him enough to comment on his qualities only know that he was one of Ten Hag's main men.
It'd be fascinating to watch someone with his dribbling ability alone for a CB at United. Hope we can push these ilk of signings through quickly for ETH.
Was only messing, I’m concerned about it too. Height in a cb isn’t the be all and end all but his stats show it is a weaknesses for him. I think Ten Haag will look for us to defend in a way which we limit opposition crosses but if we do sign Timber I expect he’ll be targeted.
No idea why we didn't go after him. Many on here would have said he would be great for us. Not only that, pretty sure he is a united fan.

If he’s good enough, he’s big enough. If we do go for him and manage to get FDJ who I don’t think is strong in the air then we really would need to get a midfield in who is strong in the air. AT or Rice would compensate nicely for our lack of height.

He had a pretty bad injury record in the season before he moved to Liverpool from what I recall. Gamble has paid off for Liverpool though

The sooner we bring him in, the sooner we can start retrofitting Carrington and Old Trafford to accommodate him. I'm thinking child's height urinals, a booster seat in the canteen and dressing room, maybe give him raised pedals in his company car etc
Looking through his compilation, I see him more of a potential fullback at the moment, if he were to join.
When someone looks that good at carrying the ball, plus has a decent array of passing, and acceleration I prefer him to be more on the offensive side of things in our current side.
We have a real lack of quality dribblers and I would really utilize that ,for the time being, for a player capable of breaking into the final third of the pitch.
I feel content with Lindelof and Varane as our starting CB, providing they get a very good defensive shielding player infront of them, while having Timber as a right fullback.
I don't feel comfortable watching either AWB or Dalot in fullback roles. Technically both are severally lacking in quality/ability.
I actually don't want to see Dalot anywhere near the first team ever again.

Look at how he trusts the strength in his body when he competes in challenges, jumps well for headers. Contrast to Lindelof

Perhaps for an additional revenue stream we could consider renting him out to bachelor parties for dwarf throwing contests or handcuffing him to the Stag for the night.

It's a fair concern but if he's as huge talent he can probably play CB in some games and RB or DM in others.
Also the top 7 do not all have WC strikers. Chelsea have Havertz. Arsenal have N Ketia

Come on, guy. Why are you worried about his height? I suppose in the training session, HD will be up against Haller. Wouldn't ETH know if he can rely on him? If ETH feels that he can do the job, then we trust it. Let's say he fails as CB, I am pretty sure he can be converted to a DM or RB. Zero issues for me getting a quality young player.
Must sell Shaw then, he just loves letting his winger cross the ball.
You laugh at the suggestion but how many current premier league teams can you name who consistently start a 5'10 centre back? In a back 4? Surely there's a reason for that? Is Klopp also a football dinosaur stuck in the past because he brings in aerially dominant centre backs?
Shaw is one of our only players with the technical attributes to play ETH’s style of football. He’s secure on the ball, can link well with others and has good physical attributes, pacey and strong as a bull. We need more players that don’t cough up possession within three seconds of getting the ball, not fewer.
Also, nobody’s calling for a 7 footer to be our centre back. Just someone who won’t be immediately singled out as a weak link due to their physical attributes.
Nico Schlotterbeck, a 6ft3 centre back with 93rd percentile progressive passing literally went to Dortmund last week for €20mn. Mazraoui, a full back went on a free to Bayern seemingly uncontested. We pay bigger salaries than Bayern and would have two specialists in problem positions for €20mn that would be first team level immediately.
Oh I agree, I like Shaw and really hope he gets back to Shawberto level. But the point stands, he just doesn't do enough to prevent crosses flying in.
But I think that happens naturally when overall technical level is elevated. Even Bruno can be frustratingly negligent in possession, never mind Rashford, Fred, McTominay (who is secure but doesn’t make himself available as a passing option) and Pogba (who loses the ball in pointless duels).
It seems bizarre because so many people used to complain about Lindelof being bullied in the air, the forum consensus has done a complete 180 over last couple of years whereby aerial duels no longer matter because "modern football". Bottom 9th percentile of centre backs in the Dutch league for aerial duels isn't a concern in the slightest.
It's because people get very excited about potential signings, especially someone like Timber who could potentially be game changing going forward, and as a result they minimise weaknesses and exaggerate the positives. Same happened with AWB (people dismissing concerns about his attacking play), VDB ("he's played in the pivot for Ajax a few times"), Daniel James (everything). Now a lot of people are assuming Timber can play right back to a Champions League level because he played there at youth level and that he wouldn't start for us anyway at centre back, so it's not a problem.
Just makes me wonder if there is a clear plan here if we're buying a centre back with off the charts passing skills to foist him out to right back which doesn't address our supposed need to improve our central defence or change our playing style from first phase. I just have a very bad feeling that fast forward two years, Timber is getting pellets from the fanbase over another goal conceded as he's manhandled or outjumped by a Haaland/Kane/DCL type. It's not like the fee would be a Daniel James style gimme. It could potentially impact other more critical signings (although for 35mn it might be worth the punt).
It is a coping mechanism I think, they are trying to convince themselves that it won't matter. The same thing happened with lots of previous signings.

Where did I laugh? Where did I suggest anyone was a dinosaur for playing tall defenders? Obviously height is a very important characteristic for a defender to have, but you can still be a quality defender at under 6 foot.
