Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

I know we're absolutely crap - which I actually stated a few posts up, when I described us as being 'Fecking dire'

The point still stands, that because we are Manchester United, everyone wants to beat us.
They probably want to beat us to get 3 points.

I do wonder what exactly might be left behind after Van Dijk, Salah, Mane, Henderson, Thiago, Milner etc get that little bit older after Klopp has left.

If we keep hold of Michael Edwards or even if Julian Ward takes that promotion on Edwards' departure, then our recruitment team remains sound and the good progression continues.

We also have decent youngsters in Elliott, Jones, Konate, Trent, Morton, Jota who will take over the senior role in the coming years.

If Klopp leaves then it all depends on who we sign as the manager. Sometimes you get a sense that Pepijn Lijnders is being groomed to take over, and if that happens then Klopp's tactics and philosophy will continue.

I have always believed leagues go through waves of a high level and a low level

Yeah. Bit like 2004-2010 when the likes of Mourinho, Wenger, Fergie, Benitez, etc made this league brilliant.

Every team raises their game when they play Utd, that's why it's often described as the other team's 'Cup Final'

No cringe about it, just the way it has always been, and just the way it will always be.

It is cringe, you just made that up in your own head.
Trying to make it like Man Utd are different to every one else.

All that sounds brilliant for yous I'm theory, however Brian Kidd, Steve McClaren, Carlos Quierez and Mike Phelan where all under Sir Alex. None of them made the grade as a top level manager.

Elliot, Jones and Morton look to have promise no doubt but theirs many young lads looked to have it all to become a top top player but didn't. Very risky to hang your hat on these lads.

Konate I've always like him but injury prone and Jota imo will never reach the heights of Salah or Mane, but certainly a brilliant squad player.

On your recruitment team, they have done a good job, however in recent years they've sold plenty and brought in Davies, minamino, tsimikas, konate, Jota and thiago. Up to this point only Jota has been a success. My point isn't that your recruitment team is bad, my point is your owners haven't give them funds.

No matter who you have in place in the coming years, if your owners don't release funds, you'll drift away from the top.

Correct!
In more ways than one!

...why do you think Ole is still in charge, when he is clearly out of his depth?! :wenger:

Maybe because there isn't an outstanding manager who fits the criteria, ticks all the boxes and is available to get?
Maybe because Utd dont want to keep sacking managers?
Maybe because the last supposedly two world class managers Utd got didn't go to plan?

You claiming that everybody tries harder and wants to beat Man Utd more than anyone else is still making me cringe though.

Disguising yourself as a Chelsea fan on a Utd forum... nice try Gary!

Conte was there for the taking and they decided against it. Mental if you ask me.

That doesn't make any sense, I didn't say i wouldn't sack Ole.
You asked me why Ole is still in charge, i gave you some of my reasons why i think he is still in the job.
Hence why i put questions marks by them.

1. No manager will ever tick all the boxes. It's like not upgrading on Lindelof for years because the perfect CB isn't available. Doesn't make any logical sense.

2. Hiring and sacking managers is part and parcel of the modern game. Not wanting to keep sacking managers is akin to accepting your sorry place and ultimate failure. Adapt or die. If you get lucky and get a long term manager who is actually enough, celebrate that but to expect it is foolish.

3. You don't stop aiming for excellence because one or two attempts didn't work out well. Imagine Google refusing to hire a top class ceo because the last one failed. Again it makes no sense. As a top club you have to either hire top managers or managers you feel are about to get.

It wasn't even the worst referee decision of the day nevermind the week.

1. Has to be a manager Utd want though, no point in sacking a manager without someone who is better and available to replace him. Spurs just did that with Nuno and it didn't go very far. I personally think Pochettino if he was available suits Utd.

2. I know it is, i never said i wouldn't sack Ole i'm saying why i think Utd haven't done so.

3. Because of what happened with Mourinho and Van Gaal it's made Utd a bit hesitant in sacking Ole. Thats why i they didn't go for Conte, he is too much like Mourinho.

Who would you go for if Utd sacked Ole today?.

1. We will always find better managers managers Ole. He is not really that good.

2. United are a poorly run club. No surprise there.

3. We need to buckle up and not get so emotionally decimated by managerial changes. You don't stop signing top players because you signed the wrong ones previous. You make sure sure sign the right ones.

I don't know the managerial field good enough so my word counts for little. But based on what I read, I'd try to get a caretaker in now and then Ten Hag in the summer.

I have always believed leagues go through waves of a high level and a low level (we see the low level of La Liga now) - and I see a slight low level of the PL is around the corner.

Definitely. The late early-mid 2010’s, like the couple years immediately post Sir Alex were a bit of a lull in the PL. The last few years have been high, driven mostly by Klopp and Pep.

I guess it depends on who replaces them. City will always be around because of their money, but under Pelligrini and Mancini they were nothing like the force they are under Pep. Will his successor be able to match him? Unlikely.

Liverpool have been fortunate in that almost every deal they made in the last few years have been a hit, and Klopp is able to make players that are actually coal look like diamonds. It’s much more difficult to get a manager to bring what Klopp brings to a club, and I don’t even think such a manager exists.

Then there’s Chelsea. Tuchel is pure quality but how long will it last? And when it inevitably goes up in flames who will they bring in next?

And lastly there’s us. We have the resources to charge ahead during this period where other teams naturally become weaker but I don’t expect us to.

Interesting times ahead for the PL.

Hate him as much as anyone here, but being German I can promise you that it was supposed to be ironic & in no way downplaying the size of the Africa Cup of Nations

Horrible comments. Time to cancel this utter goof.

Klopp went too far with this comment. We know how he's all about the big trophies and everything else is beneath him, but this is too disrespectful.

People actually getting angry at him for turning a phrase like that are absolute bollockses.

Also, he should be forced to retire immediately and never return to the game.

Klopp is completely out of line. Sure, we all get the inconvenience, but he shouldn't be looking down on a major international tournament like this.

It's a total non-issue. The phrasing he used is a very common way to lightheartedly correct people who have forgotten something important.

Salah and Mane should quit Liverpool in protest.

Naby Keita can stay though, no issue in that.

Firstly, it was hardly a question and more a judgement. Secondly, what Klopp said was idiomatically fine. Very common parlance when referring to a significant event.

The little matter Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

Yes except that's not at all what he said.

He clearly says "there's a little tournament in Africa". What you're suggesting he said is "there's the small matter of a tournament in Africa". Contextually very different.

I get that some of the reactions are perhaps over the top but at the same time not sure why people are so adamant to defend Klopp.

The fact that he didn't have the humility to even offer an apology along the lines of "im sorry if anyone has interpreted my comments in that manner, but this is actually what I meant...." is testament to the man's arrogance.
