Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

"City had two weeks break" - it was actually 8 days.

8 days is what Pool had between 19 - 27 Dec. A two week break. They then had comfortably the longest rest out of any teams during the festive period. 19th, 27th, 30th, 4th - 4 games in 16 days. In the same period United played 17th, 20th, 23rd, 26th, 29th, 1st - 6 games in 15 days. While other teams were dealt hectic festive schedules, Pool were basically handed the perfect schedule with lots of rest and recovery between games.

9 days is what Pool had between 8 - 17 Jan. Another two week break. But that was only the beginning. Klopp then won the jackpot because the cup game on 8 Jan was against Villa U16s. A perfect opportunity to give his main players an actual "two week break" between 4 - 17 Jan but no... he chose to field a strong team. Fair enough if you field a strong team because you want to keep up momentum and match sharpness. But to then have the audacity a few weeks later to whinge about "bohoo we haven't had a break" is utterly ridiculous.

And don't even let me get started on the extra month of rest and pre season they had over United and City at the beginning of the season. Pool were at optimal fitness when the season started in mid September. United and City didn't reach that stage until early/mid November. Pool were basically gifted a 4-5 game head start on their main two rivals. And they bottled it - in true scouse boom-bust fashion.

Victim mentality is strong with goofy. Hypocrite twat.

Great post  I wish someone would put this to him

Does he ever stop crying? He's so cool and funny when things go his way but when that changes he becomes this tiresome moaning cnut who can't stop crying and finding new excuses for his team poor form.

Please go back to my post, re-read it, where I said I believe Klopp is a better manager and had more success. However, my point is, I believe the success Benitez has had at Liverpool is comparable to the success Klopp has had. Not as good, but still, comparable. Klopp has been more successful, yes, but I do think it's comparable. Both lifting the CL, the super cup, Benitez lifting the FA cup, Klopp the PL. Let me re-iterate so you don't take offence - I believe Klopp has been more successful, but I find it very fickle to dismiss one of your best managers in the your recent history, in an attempt to defend your current, under-fire manager.

so which one is it? Their success is comparable or Klopp has been more successful according to you. It can't be both you know!

You'd have won at least 1 title with Benitez if you weren't up against Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest Premier League manager, ever. So, there you go, both would have won more. It's exactly the same, but you're only talking up what else Klopp could have done, and ignoring what Benitez could have done. You didn't win another title, you've won 1 title, and you're imploding because Klopp has ran you into the ground for 3 years. It's not sustainable, nor as admirable as say, building a City-style team that know when to press, when to run, when to stroll. It Foden, Sterling, Jesus won't all burnout like half your squad has. Remember, I'm a United fan, I dislike City probably more than Liverpool as I respect the type of club Liverpool is, their history, their model, I don't respect the way City have romped to billions of pounds of spending and have a shell of a club, so I have absolutely no motive than to have my own balanced opinion.

I don't care about injuries. Your line-up v's Aston Villa had Gomez, VVD, Robertson, TAA, Wijnaldum, Keita, Fabinho, new signing Jota, Salah, Firmino, you had the likes of Henderson, Jones on the bench.... is that down to injuries? This arrogant notion that you'd be top of the league or whatever if you didn't have injuries is nonsense. My mate at work actually deluded himself to the point that he thought you'd already lost VVD and Gomez to injury when you played Villa.... it's laughable. Your form had already dipped after you secured the title, and it wasn't at title hangover, which we've now seen. Stop moaning about injuries. United How would Brighton cope with more injuries than Liverpool, when they play Liverpool? Funny that, isn't it, they outplayed you and beat you. Do you see an entire fanbase over at Brighton crying that they'd be doing much better if they had less injuries? No. Burnley, Newcastle, would LOVE to have a squad like yours, West Brom? Come on. Stop blaming injuries. You have to beat the inferior teams if you want to win a league.

United had a huge injury crisis in 2011-2012, we had about 10 key players out for ages, we had wing backs playing CM, we had midfielders playing WB, did we let that be an excuse and drop out of the title race without a whimper? Feeling sorry for ourselves? Did we eck, check out our starting 11 v's Arsenal when we spanked them 8-2. The best managers make it work. We were in the title race until the last day, finished on the same points as City. We didn't start playing sh!te all over the pitch because we lost a few players. The top clubs, the biggest clubs, adjust, strengthen, move on.

You should have replaced VVD & Gomez on January 1st, not wait till deadline day because Matip was out. Signing two unproven CB's on deadline day to go with your two unproven CB's you already have, is a mistake.
I don't think Klopp and Benitez are comparable personally. Maybe if you're looking at their Champions League records they are, but in the Premier League they aren't. Klopp's signings have been better, he's created a comparably strong defense, he's had us playing better football and scoring more goals and has had a much higher points total twice compared to Benitez's highest. In Europe Benitez approached games differently to Klopp but they both have two finals and one win. I think there's a sizable gap from Klopp to Benitez in terms of the Premier League. Funnily enough I'd give Benitez the edge in domestic cups. Overall though Klopp is way out in front for me.

The implication that we're imploding and injuries aren't the main reason why is what I can't get on board with. We just beat Spurs and West Ham fairly easily. I think two things are happening:

1. We're naturally returning to a more normal level after two ridiculous seasons. This has happened to City as well. They're even at that more normal level this season too.
2. Injuries have impacted us. You made the point that United had them in 11/12 and you ended up not winning the league on GD. This could happen to us or we could miss out due to a few points here and there. Injuries did impact United in 11/12 the same way that they're impacting us now because being honest, you would've probably won it without having to make ridiculous changes . Lack of options, square pegs/round holes, inability to rotate. It's all relevant. Without as many injuries we would be on more points than we're on now. I think we would've won several of those many games against sides lower down in the table where we've dropped points. We still would've dropped off but not as much as we have. We're still in the title conversation by the way. This time last season City were 20 points behind us.

On the CB thing. I don't think we planned to buy anyone in January given how Fabinho was playing. We've not been struggling defensively and have conceded a maximum of 1 goal in the league since the Everton game where Van Dijk got chopped. Matip being out for the rest of the season forced our hand and we went for budget options because we can't afford to throw big money at anyone right now. The mistake was spending money on Tsimikas who has been pointless, when we could've got a cheap Lovren replacement then.

I'm not saying there aren't faults with how we're playing by the way. Klopp needs to try and change something because it's not working against low blocks any more. There has to be a way to remedy that.

Comparable can still lead to one being slightly better. It means similar, not same.

Just caught his presser today. Brilliant - he never bullshits, he never lies, he never shirks responsibility. Even after 5 years, it’s so refreshing, the more so when you’ve also listened recently to the cliches, non-answers and self preservation claptrap of others I could mention.

But likewise, City could argue that they would be on more points than they are now with Aguero fully fit for the entire season. They could also argue that they had a shorter offseason than we did which might've led to their relatively poor start. Every top team can make up a few excuses as to why they're not at the top of the league, but (and not saying you are) we shouldn't be hiding behind those. It's a simple fact that injuries have affected us yes, but they have also affected City and Leicester (to a lesser extent, but still). It's a contributing factor for me but not an excuse - we simply aren't playing well enough, simple as.

Also disagree that we're still in the title conversation. We might be 10 points behind City with a game extra played if we lose Sunday. Even if we win, it's still 7 points if they win their game in hand. Our results against the bottom 5 have completely let us down this season. For me, it's just a matter of securing top 4 as fast as possible and putting all eggs in the CL basket now.

The one that their beloved Klopp deliberately said some stuff to get under the skin of Guardiola. And Pep reacted.
So Klopp 1-0 Pep

Yeah that's true. I think the difference is we're talking about one player in Aguero (or Laporte last season) whereas ours have built up on top of each other. We're at over 800 days now for players lost to injury. It's crazy compared to what we've had previously, apart from Klopp's first season when everyone had hamstrings. But yes fair point, we should be beating some of these teams regardless.

I do agree that we're not playing well at times though. Brighton was awful and we were second best. Thought we lost control of the game at 1-0 up against West Brom as well. Go back to prior to that West Brom game though and all of this would've seemed ridiculous. I think we're in a blip rather than a decline. Something that has impacted everyone at different stages. Top four is a must now though.

I think if we win on Sunday and considering how the season has been, we're still in the conversation. If we lose we're done. If we draw then it's maybe but I doubt it.

Beautiful post.

He's very good at coming out with things that are completely incorrect.

I don't know why I waste so much time defending him and dueling with @Jonno when he comes out with BS excuses like that.

He's turned into quite a sourpuss as of late, and long may it continue. If he's trying to play mind games, then he needs to do a lot better as he is looking like he's cracking up as opposed to someone with a master plan up his sleeve.

I know this is from a while back and I am bringing it up for seemingly no reason - despite the guy always being a bit cringey to say the least - the one thing that really annoyed me was him calling Fergie at 3/4am when they won* the league.

Sorry if I come across as a killjoy or whatever, but it is just struck me as a bit of a bellend thing to do.

It would be the same as Fergie in 1993 calling up Bob Paisley or Bill Shankly (had Shankly not already passed away by that time), at 3 in the morning telling them that United had won the league, despite both of them being in their 80s.

Regardless of his "character" or full-time banter, it rubbed me as being quite a prick of a thing to do to someone in their late 70s.

Bit of a non-issue as Fergie took it well (publicly at least) in the end, but rant over with, just wanted to get that off my chest as yet another reason to dislike the man.

He’s quite the hypocrite, considering Ole could have used that exact excuse when we played them as we have been going every 3/4 days since the week before Xmas and that will continue until after the europa games bar one week where it was 6 days.

This didnt happen though, and seems destined to become one of these football myths that lives on no matter how many times its corrected, mostly through Liverpool fans who want to lie to themselves for the sake of some 'legendary' story.

For clarity, Ferguson text klopp congratulations when they won the league. By the time klopp was replying to messages it was 4am. He sent a brief thank you to Ferguson, who happened to have his phone nearby and on when it buzzed and 'woke him.'

End of tale.

I wonder why Fergie would want klopps number, can you imagine how many people Fergie has in his phone!

I had no idea about this. What a fecking bellend.

Right you are, can't stand him.

If you search "ferguson klopp" on youtube, you will find it (apologies as I can't post the link).

It would be like Ole doing the same to Kenny Dalglish (in the unlikely event United win the league any time soon) - I would think exactly the same, and I am sure United as a club would resent such a thing too. It is very small time and rather childish, regardless of what kind of rivalry exists.

And I doubt Fergie was prank calling Klopp previously or in some sort of a twitter war, therefore it just so happened to be Jurgen getting his own back. Again, very cringey.

Ah - only just seen your reply. Didn't know this part of it.

Still not beyond the realm of fantasy for Klopp to do something like that, but thanks for clearing that up all the same.

Doesn't make him any less of a prick regardless.

I just wish someone pointed it out to him. They had a 3 week break before the season and started pre season when us and City were in Europe. They had fresh players to chose from along with 2 new signings.

They've been lucky with the fixtures, whos fault is it he starts some of his best 11 in a dead rubber CL game? He knew Villa were weak, still played his first 11 out. He can go do one.

Definitely. He's an arsehole.

I never knew that, jesus what an absolute cnut!

Isn’t this just classic deflection tactics given how shit his team has been?

Let Klopp carry on with his whinging. He'll have the same effect as Arsene Wenger had on Arsenal players. Always playing the victims card turns winners into losers, gives the players an excuse not to fight to the end, when the going gets tough.

I like how Ole has instilled a positive, never give in attitude to our players, which we had under Fergie. Ole could have come out with plenty of justifiable complaints this season, but instead, he has concentrated on keeping the team focused and fighting to the end.

Moaning cnuts. They got spanked 7-2 by Villa wen the messiah van Dik was there. They've run outa steam it happens.

He'll soon be back to this carry on.

he is a winner but in the end a class less guy. in loosing you see the character of people. when winning he was beautiful but when loosing he was really try
