Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

Well settled would be in the here and now to me. If Lindelof comes back into the team then we have to adjust again as does Maguire so essentially hitting the reset.

So settled is just whoever is the current partnership?

Maguire doesn’t have to press a reset button to play with someone he’s been playing with for the past 18 months, because he’s played with Bailly for 3 games! Come on mate.

I know, it seems they rely on it so much that he’s dropped midfielders back There to play the long ball. I still don’t think that just losing a few centre backs is the reason for one shot on target in a game and one goal in 3 against lower opposition. I’m glad jota is out

I actually wonder if he's using midfielders at the back as he values the long ball/playing from the back tactic more than actual defending.

It's interesting actually.

United don't have a settled partnership at the back. Maguire is first choice and often it's been with Lindelof. Now Bailly is in the side and in good form. Some want him to stay and feel he's better suited to Maguire's weaknesses and others would advocate bringing Lindelof back in. Not long ago Tuanzebe was getting minutes and some wanted him as Maguire's partner.

Let's be honest I don't think we have a stable pairing at the back.

Tuanzebe got one game against PSG. He was excellent. I’d love him to be a partner for Maguire, but it’s one game.

doesn’t matter what people want, but look at how many times Lindelof and Maguire have partnered up this season (and last). That’s consistent.

it’s actually very clear our preferred back four is AWB, Lindelof. Maguire, Shaw.

It's weird considering we're the top scorers in the league too. I watch us play and hate the long diagonals. Feels like they almost always get cut out.

So would you say a fit Lindelof displaces Bailly at the moment then or do you suspect Ole might not be fully sold on Maguire and Lindelof?

Our preferred 4 has been pretty much enforced really.

It obviously works well for you and looking at the stats is a clear tactic. I'm not knocking it nor am I snobby about the use of such methods (even if Klopp has made jibes at teams playing long ball against him..).

Just curious. Perhaps he doesn't trust your young defenders with the ball in this way and feels you lose something by playing them in there and that's the reason.

He's rattled already the cnut. I hope we wipe that shit-eating grin off his face this season.

yes I do.

I don’t think they are the best suited CBs, but consistency and stability are really important.I’m pleased Bailly is playing well, but he’s not a long term solution.

Why does Klopp insist on embarrassing himself like this? You'd think he's capable of logical thinking, but oh well.

Deflecting from his and his teams bland performance. Puts the focus on us and the FA. He's a w*nker.

Said he wasn't even thinking about the United game to Sky but brought us up himself 15 minutes later in his post-match presser.

Love it.

That's where we'll disagree then. I don't think Ole is sold on the Maguire/Lindelof pairing and that's why I wouldn't say it's settled. I think he knows they don't really suit one another, then again Lindelof wasn't one of his signings.

I don't think we'll see this pairing next season.

That might have been clear two weeks ago, but I have to believe that Ole has taken note of Bailly's outstanding play over the last few matches and for me a fit Bailly > a fit Lindelof all day long.

But you would be right to ask...how long can Bailly stay on his feet?

It cant have escaped Ole's attention how ridiculously useful Bailly's pace is when he's paired with Maguire

I agree and I think that's why Tuanzebe has been on the edge of getting game time too. Plus he was chosen to play up against Mbappe for that very reason.

I think if Ole was sat here now he'd tell you that the second CB role is up for grabs and Lindelof would be competing with Maguire for that role in an ideal world.

It's a beautiful thing. We're clearly weighing on his mind, so just need to stay focused and keep the pressure on.

I think we are still massive underdogs when it comes to all this. Just look at the age and experience of our squad. The only thing I have a tiny bit of positivity about is the mentality does seem to be shifting.

We had three semi finals last year and no finals. Hopefully that's helped focus the squad and we see some reward from the collective experience last season tomorrow against City.

I know Mourinho is labelled as arrogant, idiot and whatever... but for whatever reason I find Klopp and Guardiola much more cinic and false than him. At least he is a bastard and doesn’t try to hide it, while those 2 are all nice words and smiles when everything is ok but when things go against them they know how to dismiss their opponents with a much more arrogant attitude than Mou, but because they smile and attacking football the media is more tolerant with them.

And didn’t he say “I just heard...”. Who’s telling him that nonsense before his presser, clearly there on his mind

This, but I don't think Guardiola is as bad as Klopp. He is so fake in every single aspect

Ole should just ignore the penalty talk and praise the officials for doing their job in his presser tomorrow. Then joke about the injury thing Jose was talking about earlier when he faced them while cheekily mentioning the whole Liverpool festive period rest thing, let Klopp try and explain that conspiracy.

Ole should completely ignore this until the days leading up to the Anfield game, and then just casually mention that we've all seen how Jurgen is trying to influence referees with his post match comments.

Just to plant the seed.

Yeah, I'd definitely class us as underdogs and would rather we stayed that way for as long as possible, as I've got my own doubts about the maturity / mentality of our squad. I don't see us going top and staying there. Throwing the CL qualification away is still too recent for me to start thinking we're the finished product.

All that said, it's just nice to be rattling some cages, and it's a pleasant change to even be in the conversation right now. Whatever happens over the course of the season, I'm genuinely upbeat about the direction we're heading in. We're not perfect but it's the closest we've been since Fergie retired.

Yeah I'd agree with that as I think people underestimate the work needed to change a culture at a club and especially a mentality amongst individuals. I think it's also downplayed as to how young our squad is which essentially means all these experiences and learnings are happening now.

Sir Alex used to always say you needed individuals in teams who knew what it took to win titles and had that experience. We don't really have that with this bunch and there's certainly a lack of maturity as evidenced in games this season and our CL games away in Turkey and Leipzig. On the flip side our manager and coaches all know what's required but the test will be if they can transfer that and instill it upon the players..

Very much a work in progress but you have to feel if we can keep this bunch together and just add another couple we are building something worth waiting for. Shame we can't get the Pogba buy in really.

He knows they are a bit crap at the moment and he knows our forwards are dangerous.

This is just the typical pressuring the officials, expect us to get nothing from them there.

You know, if defenders stop bringing us down in the box we would get a lot less pens, Jurgen. Its not rocket science, its football.

I like when the commentator said klopp is smiling with his teeth but not with his eyes, near the end of the game
Fake smile, his eyes are not smiling/laughing most of the time when his mouth is, when it is honest smile/laughter, eyes are squinting, you can see lines/wrinkles in the corner of the eyes, and also when it is fake smile you see both set of teeth. When smiling honestly you see only upper set of teeth, not the bottom one. Like you see him in this interview, at the very begining, and when we are mentioned, around 1 minute mark.

And didn’t he say “I just heard...”. Who’s telling him that nonsense before his presser, clearly there on his mind
Noone told him that before presser. He knew it waaay before. He says "I heard.." and scratches his eyebrow at the same time. He is lying.

P.S. not body language expert (yet), just hobby of mine and read tone of the books about it.

Rattled.

People said SAF wouldn't win PL if he face this clown? Ole got him this nervous. SAF would end him easily.

Ole hasn’t even began to play mind games. Until now it’s only been about relieving pressure from his young squad. Imagine when he doesn’t have to defend his corner week in week out.

I think teams have found a way. While Klopp only can play one type of football, once you found system against him it will not be easy as before. If I remember correct, same thing happened in Dortmund.

However this game, they should have one point from my point of view. For me, it can't get more penalty then that (handball). I know they have been lucky with referees last season and VAR (even this in some games) but looking at this game alone, they have been hard done by referee. If it happened to us, like for example Tottenham och Crystal Palace game, I would be irritated.
Yes, I remember a conversation like that. Klopp is fantastic. I hope Ole is more versatile. So far, he seems to be.
