Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

To be fair, this stat isn't a true reflection of his spell imo. He decided to give up the league and focus on the EL in his first season, meaning there were a lot of dropped points where we was picking 40% strong sides in the league. It was comparable to us last season, perhaps more extreme.

Rodgers never had a period like that, his main focus was entirely on the league, and he nearly won it. So I think the stats are warped against Klopp because of that first season run, when they finished 8th(?).

Also Klopp has a far superior competition than Rodgers. Let's be honest, the PL was shit compared to now in his time. City and Chelsea still good, Tottenham basically in their prime now, United rising under Mourinho (with a lot of good signings) and Arsenal the same as usual. PL teams in general with horrific performances on international level when Rodgers was still Liverpools manager. Also Rodgers still had iconic players such as Gerrard and Suarez, Klopp has... Mane.

So not even fair to compare Rodgers and Klopp just by their points imo.

I can remember us beating Liverpool 3-0 in Van Gaals first season here and Lovren was complete shite in that game.

The fact he's still a regular first team player 3 years later is baffling to me. It's negligence from Klopp to have not upgraded on him.

He's a bigger nob than Rodgers, but he's clearly a better manager. Rodgers' Liverpool had a Leicester City season also helped by Suarez at his best and apart from City and Arsenal everyone else is much better now. I don't think Klopp is the messiah that his supporters make out, but he's not bad either. He is fairly clueless defensively though.

Tottenham is missing from your list. And there's a reason for that. Only Kane would be considered by a sizeable number of people as world class in that team, but they're up there with the rest of the teams you've mentioned. Team synergy and tactics can compensate for a lack of players considered world class. The margins are tighter but it's doable.
Tottenham will never win anything either. Mainly because no top players will join them... But they have Alli and Kane. I'd say both are better than anybody Liverpool's got. Aswell as Lloris/Aurier/Alderwiereld/Vertonghen/Rose. You'd be hard to find a better backline than that. Their squad just killed Liverpool's.

Jurgen Klopp says that he scouted possible alternatives to Virgil van Dijk many times, but made the call not to sign them.

Liverpool have already conceded five times to Manchester City, three goals to Watford and two to Sevilla this season, with questions again asked of Klopp’s defensive organisation.

Liverpool have Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, but Klopp says that there was nobody better than what he had.

“We watched all of them 500 million times, and to cool the people down what if the new player doesn’t hit the first ball and he makes exactly the same mistake?” Klopp said.

“A mistake they all made in their life – but it is like, ‘he is a £65 million signing, he will improve’. Why do you think the other one cannot improve? I don’t understand that.

“For me it’s really difficult always to come to your planet, visit you and say ‘yeah you’re right, there were five good options out there and we missed them because, I don’t know, we wanted to spend the money anywhere else’.

“It is not that we ignore it – I said if there would have been a solution out there we would have done it. I had to make a decision and the decision was our boys are not worse than them.

“It is concentration. It is not a quality thing. But if there’s no-one, no solution out there, and no real quality issue then you have to work on it and that is what we will do.”

Is he seriously implying that there are no CB that could have improved Klavan or Lovren? This guy is delusional.

What's he supposed to say? They are useless and Liverpool didn't have the money needed for improvements or didn't act quick enough? That's a great motivational speech during the season.

He's not supposed to say anything. He could, on the other hand, have bought an improvement/s on what he already has. Because contrary to what he is now saying, they do exist.

Well I don't really give a shit, but I'm just guessing that's a quote from his press conference and he got asked about his defence. Should he just refuse to answer?

You realise that there is a middle ground between refusing to answer, and giving a ridiculous answer, right?

Well he should keep his mouth shut at least. His defense is shambles two season running and he goes and buys Oxlade-Chamberlain for 40m, he had money to spend. And it's not like VVD is Baresi reincarnated, there are plenty good and even better CB that could be bought for 40m.

For a guy who thinks £40m on Ox is improving our midfield but five other defenders he looked at couldn't improve on our CBs is bordering on total bullshit.

I won't pretend this doesn't worry or even scare me because it does. I still think he's a class manager though so maybe he'll overcome this dangerous blindspot eventually.

It should worry you, it's a ridiculous what he claimed. I rate Klopp as a coach myself and liked him a lot at Dortmund, not sure if the whining part is new, but he does act like a prick sometimes. Maybe i wasn't paying attention before but i had the guy as potential Fergie successor, now I see i was wrong on that one. From a United fan perspective i hope he continuous in this vain, understandably! :D

Klopp: "the whole population of Burnley was in the box. Why don't teams play open football like us and play into our hands so we can gegenbone them?" :wenger:

Never a top, top manager. A good one yes, but not in the upper tier.

Looking forward to his post match interview, bound to be some golden nuggets there.

That negligence in addressing our shit defence is going to haunt him all season long. That £35 million spent on AOC could have gone to Lazio for De Vrij, last year of contract and wants to leave. Klopp has messed up.

“It was just a long ball,” he said. “We could have won the first header and the ball bounced in the wrong direction."

LOL Best excuse yet! Maybe it was the wind again?!

What a guy. Jeez..

My fav part is on 5:27:
"We could have won preety much all of our games so far, when you think about performance"

well, should be given 12 points just based on performance. Nah, let's make that 20.

Yep, you should be top of the table. In an alternative and fictional world.

Ffs, the number of same excuses and interviews after the game is astonishing. Yes, you have good quality up front but your defence has an impact on the whole team. Attack knows it has to score a minimum of 2 goals and more often than not that still won't be enough. The defence is shitting every time the ball is in their half, not to mention in their box and the fact they didn't improve in that segment one bit since he came speaks volumes.

But, don't have any complaints, long may it continue.
