Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

Also, the point with Klopp isn't to base a judgment purely on the 11 games he's been in charge of; it's to see the trajectory of the performances in terms of quality and potential. Surely it's pretty obvious that the side is looking stronger and the squad isn't as average as some may have thought.

You are optimistic which is fair enough. I prefer to see how the chips fall when all is said and done rather than go into headless chicken mode after Liverpool win a League Cup game.

Looking at your posts about Klopp's and van Gaal's pressing, you're the one who seems to be going into 'headless chicken mode', to be honest.

I would stick with LVG for now. I am not getting giddy or upset because Liverpool beat Southampton in the League Cup. In Liverpool's last home game they sneaked past Swansea 1-0 scoring a penalty whilst managing a pathetic 10 shots in the whole game, one more than Swansea. Aside from the City game Klopp's Liverpool have been poor and involved in dull games in the league.

He won the Champions League with Ajax FFS. I suppose that level of competition doesn't match up to your standards.

How is taking 10 shots pathetic? We hardly ever have more. We had 12 against a terrible Sunderland team at home. 5 at Palace.

Guess the team: average shots per game 10.4

I think there's an overreaction. I watched their game against Swansea and they looked ordinary. But they have clearly improved. Helps that the have more attacking options with more pace.
I don't expect Newcastle to put up any resistance this weekend.

We were ordinary against Swansea and haven't to be honest been great at home all season.
It's clear some players have improved under Klopp, those many (including us) had written off. Lovren for example does look a better player at the moment.

Given the injuries we have had some of our away performances have been brilliant so sure we are bound to overreact. However, not many will go to City and Southampton and win like we did.

It's far too early to fully judge, but if he does get funds to add to the squad over the next couple of windows, especially next summer then clearly we are heading in the right direction again.

they are still in the honeymoon period right now. It'll settle down eventually and we will see the true worth. No doubt having Sturridge back though will be a huge boost, he is class.

I don't see how you can deduce that from me not panicking or caring about Klopp and Liverpool.

Our attack has been pathetic this year. I did not dispute that.

Crap. They both have flaws in their squad like us. You could also make a strong claim that we are not playing to our full potential.

We are boring though.
I agree with that - but I don't think you will ever do under LVG

You not playing to your potential is why a I fancy finishing above you. Van gaal looks to have a ceiling with this team. Who knows what Klopps ceiling is with this team. We're going in the right direction though.

Never mind, I've since seen the "Will the dippers be on top at Christmas?" thread and I get your point now

Still, you're tragically wrong if you think Klopp's pressing is less 'intelligent' or 'coordinated' than van Gaal's.

I agree.

I was a fan of LvG's work at Bayern but his pressing was never particularly impressive, even before the whole System collapsed in 2010/11. Imo the pressing introduced by Heynckes and modified by Guardiola are the main differences and improvements compared to the Dutchman's tenure.

Those squads, especially the squad now is a lot better than what LVG had at Bayern. I don't mean strictly in terms of personnel either. I include players being at the peak of their powers too.

I was sick when his Bayern side knocked United out of the CL. At the point in time they were not impressive, on paper anyway.

Because those managers that proceeded him improved the team.

Funny how fate plays a major part in any respective destiny. I'm convinced that had Rodgers had a fully fit Daniel Sturridge for most of last season & this, then he'd probably still be manager of LFC. As it happens he didn't, so he's no longer manager of LFC, & as a result we now have one of the best managers on the planet who's changing things around far quicker than any of us dared hoped.

It's a funny old game.

That Bayern team developed over the years and adapted to a league thar has changed a lot, too.

He's done a very good job so far. Still has to work on improving the home form, but with Sturridge back (for now at least) that will be a big help.

He plays exciting football. I'm jealous that they get to watch Klopp's style and we get stuck with the 'philosophy.'

More than the result I was shocked by how poor Liverpool were, they didn't threaten at all.

If you watched them against Swansea, you would not have been shocked. They will have the same problem against West Brom.

They spent close to 60mil on Firmino and Benteke. They spent another 25mil on Lallana.

Neither Firmino(so far) or Lallana are decent cover when Coutinho is out. Benteke isn't proper cover for Sturridge. He just isnt suited to their style. Isn't mobile enough.

Once Sturridge and Coutinho are out they are really poor.

Playing all the hard games away from home first is DEFINITELY not an advantage. I have no idea why people think this.

You now have hard games at home and every away game is a struggle in the premier league.

Plus it doesn't mean all that much when the manger's system thrives on big teams that control games and can be suspect against weaker teams that sit back and soak up pressure. Either way they've blown a big opportunity to make up ground and that's fecking great.
