He’s stronger than Lindelof, quicker than Lindelof and much better in one on one situation. His ball playing is also better, so not only he is the answer to Lindelof’s weakness but also an upgrade.
Ok so you’re saying if we had a defender who wasn’t all out physical and was defending with rationale and skill that would be good?

Essentially my point is Kounde isn’t the answer. He’s a good CB but no our solution
Being a top-class defender requires both, Carlos lacks one side and Lindelof the other, you see? Not that difficult.
Koundé is quicker and physically stronger than Lindelof and actually has some bottle. They aren't comparable.

Better 1vs1 is subjective and also relative quality is an issue.
Ball playing better again I’m not sure passing wise unless you mean on the ball as in dribbling?
I don’t see him moving to United and being the solution I think it’s another press hype after a great solo goal.
I agree it requires a bit of both. Kounde doesn’t have both yet.
We already have 3 very good CBs in Maguire, Lindelof and Bailly if we want to progress we can’t just add good ones with potential but flaws.

these 2 reasons are why we’ve struggled over the last few years as others have got better at it while we ignored it. We are getting there slowly but ole needs to stop worrying about fast counter attacks and we need to learn how to play a high line better.
players like Kounde are playing that exact game pressing game for sevilla right now, and they’ve had 7 clean sheets in the last few games in a row.
it’s no coincidence nobody good sits deep defensively.

I have watched Kounde in 7 full matches this season, I can guarantee you he’s better ball playing, better one on one, and stronger. How many games have you watch Kounde this season?

Thank you. Our single biggest issue as a squad (contrary to popular belief about needing a striker) is the inability to play a high line confidently. There's a reason we looked so solid when Bailly was fit a while back because we could defend much more aggressively and higher up the pitch, which in turn means that even if our attack is off of it we are consistently pinning the opponent in and having more cracks at creating chances than a team who defends deeper might.
Most fans don't seem to understand this though and I can't for the life of me understand why, as it's the reason both Liverpool and City have been so dominant in recent years. City isn't hoarding possession like Barca in '11, but they win the ball back so quick and high up the pitch that it makes attacking relentless on the opposition until they break down.
I've been banging this drum for years now and i've dedicated numerous posts to the subject.
Without repeating what i've said for a long time in its entirety, our current starting CBs don't allow us to play a 2-4-4 in possession. City and Liverpool can or have been successful in implementing the formation with their CBs, hence creating overloads in multiple offensive zones and thus putting the smaller teams to the sword.
Our teams attack would improve more with a Kounde or Konate than a RWF as things stand IMO. Because either Kounde or Konate are strong at defending the channel on their own as the RCB. That would then open up the opportunities for the RB and Right sided forward to overload the opposition with support from the right sided CM. We can't do this effectively currently and resort to dropping deeper with the double pivot and fullbacks in support of the CBs and the counter attack becomes the default setting. The counter press is also off the menu due to how deep we're.

You obviously don't watch much of Atletico, they don't play defensively unless it's against teams they know they can't keep possession against.
They are one of the most drilled teams on the planet though, and certainly the odd 1 out compared to the rest. Do you want us to play like Atletico?

No I don’t. But the point stands. Top teams can defend deep but I agree we should now be ready to play higher up the pitch (which we have done this season hence our better goalscoring record but worse defensive record)

At times you can't always play with a high line, but how often do you see City camped in their box having to defend an onslaught? it just doesn't happen. They defend from the front, keep a high line and any balls over the top get swept up by Ederson.
It feels like Ole wants to adapt to play this way but it's not possible with our personnel.
Pilger is also reporting in the piece below that the two targets are Kounde and Konate. Konate's injury history may go against him or Sevilla's asking price may be deemed too high by the club.

Should be our target no 1 for me. Has everything you want and we are looking for. Ever since we played them, i was convinced of his qualities.
Was really impressed with him when we last played them. Would be a good signing and certainly an upgrade on Lindelof.

Think of why Lindelof and Maguire cannot work together not just focus on Lindelof alone. They both are not mobile centre back and passive, they are too similar as Lindelof strength doesn’t compliment Maguire’s weakness at all while Maguire strength doesn’t compliment Lindelof’s weakness apart from the physical strength and the aerial presence.
To put it in short, you can’t play those two together.
Kounde has pace and aggressiveness (not fully aggressive like Bailly but he still able to play both aggressive and passive CB and he also can commit towards the ball rather than wait like Lindelof/Maguire), these compliment Maguire’s weakness. On top of it, he is a better ball playing centre back than lindelof (not talking about dribble but ball distribution is playing more risky passes and long ball, check stats below) and he is physically stronger and more muscular than Lindelof (check pic below). If you watch him, you should know these. I've a strong suspicion they'll end up signing him. Their allure is too strong.

It does feel something of an inevitability, thankfully there's not a shortage on CB talent at the moment.

Honestly, I know the owner is rich but I‘m still not sure if PSG needs a very expensive centre back when they have Marquinhos and Kimpembe. They should be aiming to sign a much cheaper centre back to provide back up for those two.
Anything else would be a huge surprise.
