True but we can't guarantee them that they'll start every game. Look at Brandon Williams, a brilliant prospect but Ole uses him sparingly in the right moments. Foden was a bigger talent than Sancho St City and he must be wondering if he's made a massive mistake by sticking around at City.
Dortmund probably offer them contract guarantees where they will start every game if they are fit enough to play.

How on earth will Dortmund ‘guarantee’ a 16 year old ‘will start every game?’. That’s nonsense.

And I have no idea why people here love to use the development of Phil Foden as some sort of stick to beat City with. He’s been given plenty of football for a teenager at a top club, has started a fair amount of games, big ones too. He’s exactly where he needs to be, and Pep has handled him brilliantly. Same goes for Brandon Williams who you also mention, who is nowhere near the talent of Foden and Sancho and has been given a very generous amount of football here.

The vast majority of a players development is done in club training, NOT in games. The gametime is the end product where you execute. It is not the most intregral part of a players development regime, altho obviously also beneficial. Talents are matched against good players on a daily basis.

Brandon Williams barely registered before this season, and suddenly he's been MotM twice and has been given ample playingtime. He's also struggled a couple games which is why he's being used in tune with where he is at.

Of course BVB are not promising starting spots to anyone simply because. But they are undoubtedly offering a way into regular playing minutes, big difference. Are we? Greenwood, Williams, Rashford, Taunzebe, AWB,. If you are good enough, you get gametime. Chong has been given playtime, Garner, even Gomes.

Bellingham will feature in cup games and the odd PL game like every other talent who goes the same route.

Assuming Sancho goes, they still have Reus, Brandt and Reyna as attacking central types. Even if one of Reus or Brandt ends up out wide replacing Sancho (with Hazard on the other wing I guess) the other will definitely be ahead of Jude and Reyna has done very well for his age. Though I guess with injuries or if Bellingham can play out wide or be Can's backup he can get a good number of minutes.

Disagree on Foden. He could have been on loan at a club playing good football and learning stuff that would help him play for Pep and getting 1500-2000 Prem minutes under his belt instead of 355. Easy enough to have his loan be dictated considering how good he is. A club like Norwich, Southampton or Bournemouth (instead of taking Wilson as their RW) that presses and tries to play a bit of passing football would have surely let City dictate playing time for Foden if it got them a talent like that for a year. Or if they're less concerned about style, imagine how well he'd have done for Wolves as an AM/W type this year.

I think with foden and city it comes down to if they trust him to replace d. Silva ...

If they do then his development seems to be on track as by the time he's 21 he will be a regular player on a very good squad

If not then hindsight will say they should have loaned home out

We will know next season but gut feel he's gonna play a lot more next year

not seen enough of him to be sure but absolutely everyone seem to say he is going to be among the best in the world. Not heard anyone say a bad word about him (other than he is young which doesn't actually mean much)

Uh? I've seen quite a few people say he's not super impressive going by eye-test. He's not a very flashy player, scouts know what they're doing though

Any news after the Bild article? They seem to think it was imminent that he is going to sign for Dortmund.

“United are in the market for a holding midfielder, too — as good as Nemanja Matic has been — and the Birmingham City teenager Jude Bellingham is seen as potential in that regard, albeit Borussia Dortmund have long been his preferred destination.”

It’s interesting that Laurie Whitwell considers him to be an option to replace Matic. I’ve always thought he’s more of a box to box but perhaps he could be more suited for the DM role. Possibly one to mould?

I don’t see him as a DM, very aggressive runner with the ball and likes to win the ball higher up the pitch and he himself says he wants to be able to bomb forward.

I don't think any major transfer decisions will be made until clubs can see the end in sight to the virus.

In regards to Laurie Whitwell, I haven't read anything credible written by him all season, I think he's just making stuff up. Everything suggests Jude Bellingham will play as a no. 8 mostly and sometimes as a no. 10, and he's even stated this is where he prefers to play. Whitwell is just putting 2+2 together and getting 5, knowing Matic will need to be replaced soon.

I think Ole would like to have a specialist no. 8 in the squad, one who can score, assist and tackle like a Gerrard. Hence his interest in this kid who will probably sign for Dortmund soonish.

I was quite surprised Laurie Whitwell hinted that we'd be looking at him as cover for Matic, which I don't think is his skill set at all. He's definitely an 8 by all accounts so maybe a Pogba replacement in the long term and a much better version of Fred. I get the sneaking suspicion he's gonna go to Dortmund though, in that case we should really go all out for Eduardo Camavinga. Also a massiveyoung talent, who can actually be the replacement for Matic but with better attributes. He's more mobile, passing is more adventurous and can either play as a DM or CM. Rennes are open to selling, either bring him in immediately or leave him there on loan for a year.

Aye, Camavinga looks a freak. Although if things are really bad at Barcelona, I’d love us to go and get Frenkie if there is half a chance!

I think Camavinga will be the Frenkie De Jong of the next transfer window, everyone will want him. But we will have a small chance to get him. PSG already have Verratti. Barca have Frenkie and Busquets, City have Rodri, Chelsea have Billy Gilmour, Madrid have Kroos and Casemiro..... So you never know.

I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if we also said ‘United have James Garner’ tbh.

Personally I'm not too fussed at this guy going to Dortmund. If he thinks that's the best move for him then so be it.

In my opinion, Dortmund's ability to improve foreign imported young defenders and deeper to central midfielders isnt anywhere in comparison to their ability to improve foreign imported attacking players. Sure they maybe be exceptions (you could argue if Hakimi is a defender at all but I digress; nothing is in comparison to their ability to help the pure attackers like dembele, kagawa, sancho, Lewandowski, Mkhitaryan, Haaland etc & it's not even close.

Whilst I agree I've not seen much of Bellingham, he doesnt look purely attacking in his play and more box to box to really get that freedom to go an excel like the other attackers can go to a club like Dortmund and act like this is the best club for youngsters all the time.

If he has made his mind up then so be it.

Sure, definitely a lot of clubs in for him but a small chance is all it takes if we show initiative. Think our biggest competition for his signature will be Madrid but we can offer Rennes a good deal by allowing him to stay one more year, like Arsenal did with William Saliba. Apparently Madrid are looking for someone as back-up for Casemiro and if they don't get Pogba, he will definitely add to their midfield. If its between him and Bellingham, I'd go for Camavinga; he'll be world class in 2-3 years time.

There's no way we get Frenkie, he's the future of their midfield. We're gonna need to be creative and bold to get some proper midfield talent in, whether its guys like Bellingham or Camavinga.

Camavinga is Real bound imo, they even sacked their previous director or someone along them lines, as he agreed a deal to sell the player to Real without the consent of the other board members. There was a link after this had happened saying Real for negotiating with his club for him.

Please take this the right way, but his style reminds my of Lingard..... a Lingard with physicality and composure. Not a bad thing to have.

A Brummie Gerrard? And a Pogba replacement

I don't really see it. Jude from what I've seen is much more demanding of the ball. Lingard is more about his movement, usually limited touches with the ball unless on the counter attack.

I get what you are saying, but I think the thing about Jesse and movement is a smoke screen for when he is playing badly. He energy is an asset but only when used productively like it was a couple of seasons ago. Hence my comment, like Jesse with composure and physicality.

Flattered to deceive didn't he

Although I can see he is a good player for his age and probably has a lot of potential to grow, but at this stage I don't see an exceptional player, certainly can't see what they hype is all about. I may be wrong but that's just my two cents.

Although it seems he was used in more of a versatile way by Birmingham. However, the main hype doesn’t come from his performance, it’s actually coming from his age.

He made 25 starts in championship level at age of 16. That’s the hype is all about. Not every 16 yo players can do it.

Yeah true, that is impressive and like I say, he has lots of potential, will be interesting to see how he develops. Hopefully we can look back in a few years and see this as an absolute bargain.

I think there's too much hype surrounding Dortmund. They had developed some decent players in the past. However we're hardly a youth graveyard either. Pogba, Ronaldo, Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, McT, Williams and Shaw had either came from the youth academy or were bought at a quite a young age.

I concede that Dortmund can offer regular CL football and a juicy minimum fee clause. That's the beauty of playing with a selling club. However we offer truly competitive football and salaries that Dortmund would only dream to pay. Making it at United is tougher which is why players who graduated with us with flying colours and then left us went on becoming top top players with some of biggest salaries in football. We're talking about the likes of Ronaldo, Beckham and Pogba here who dominated the Spanish and/or Italian league and went on winning World cups, Euros and CLs. You don't find many former United players who did extremely well with us only to look silly elsewhere like Kagawa and Mkhitaryan did.

Yes being ahead in your development curve doesn't guarantee that you'll become one of the best.

I've only seen a few clips and not seen anything special from that
