Joshua Kimmich — free agent in the summer, Bayern withdraw renewal offer

Would he make more sense for Madrid than TAA? Could potentially come close to solving two seperate positions for them.

As long as we don't stupidly overpay and manage to sell Casemiro. Should take Case's place and we get in a younger midfielder to replace Eriksen.

No more old players looking for a big contract, the fact that Bayern withdrew negotiations from a time-served player says it all about his demands. This has Casimero v2 written all over it. Avoid!

Mental the number of people who think it is us that are in a position to turn him down. Under SAF we still missed out on a fair few stars because we could not compete with Madrid, Barcelona or even London as a destination, especially for players wanting to keep the WAGs happy. Now we are a bottom half of the league club in the early stages of what is likely to be a looong rebuild we are likely going straight to voicemail when a big name is on the move.

Welcome JFK, on what will be the 10 year anniversary of the arrival of BFS.

When will we learn?

We got one great season out of him. Bargain for 70m.
If we could do that for free then it’s worth it. You should go Germany on the clubs behalf to woo him. Get your woo on, Rimmy!
probably not a great idea if i return to germany. last time i did that there was a minor disagreement for a few years between a few countries who didn’t like some of my rhetoric. it was a while ago now, but i think people will still remember.

Kimmich is having a great season at a far higher level than Schweinsteiger when he arrived. He’s also far more technical than Casemiro and less reliant on physical attributes, he’s the sort of player who peaks age 30 to 34.

Great player but United have been burnt here before... Schweinsteiger, Casemiro, Varane.

When clubs as good as Bayern & Real at squad building suddenly let 30+ year old players go who've been a core part of their success you have to ask why.

In terms of fit as well, he's not athletic enough to play RWB in Amorim's system and probably not physical enough to play in a 2-man midfield either.

This aside from the fact I highly doubt he'd join current United. Feels like a City signing, perhaps Barca if FDJ leaves and they want a shiny new toy.
Kimmich and Pep had a great relationship at Bayern but City want (and need) to get younger. Doubt that we'd be willing to take him on now.

Why is his right mind would he even come to us? We need to be targeting players at the likes of Bournemouth and Palace, nevermind Champions League players.

That's a big issue though. According to the Bayern poster on here, he's been offered good terms but his wage demands are very high.

Eriksen's stock was hardly high when we signed him. He'd had his heart issues and was playing for Brentford. Kimmich is opting to leave one of the biggest clubs in the world because they can't match his wage demands. I don't think we'll pick him up on a reasonable salary.

It'll probably be one of those 'frees' were the money saved by the buying club on a transfer fee is negotiated into very high player wages, signing on fees, agent fees, etc.

Yeah you’re right.

Ah yes, Id forgotten about that episode. I was shocked you got away with faking your own death and I’ll never understand where you found that cadaver who looked so much like you!

On paper he could be super versatile for us but I'm always wary of players Bayern move on from, and we just can't afford this type of Woodward-esque signing anymore.

The more relevant question is, even if we wanted him, why would he want to join us?
I dont mean to be rude but why would he?

If he leaves us id bet money on him going to City, Real, Barca or Liverpool.

The only reason would be wages and if he did move for that reason it’s probably because he’s not hungry for it anymore and is moving for financial and not football reasons - ie the sort of player you don’t want. Also Ratcliffe is trying to cut costs so United probably can’t offer the wages he wants anymore too.

We should steer clear of this type of player because it's rare they adjust well to the league and/or keep their level, even an acceptable level, for the duration of their deal. More Dorgus, less Casemiros until we are back in the black and doing well on the pitch.

Don't want no mercenaries looking for a quick payday before retiring.

Why would Liverpool? Signing players on the rise, rarely players with “big names” on high salaries who might decline.

Madrid seems like an ideal destination for him? They do lack a high-volume passer in the middle and Perez loves his free signings… I’m surprised that there haven’t been many links.
Yeah I think we're gonna go for him pretty hard

Barcelona might too, but with Gavi, Pedri, De Jong and the other kids doing so well I'm not sure they'll match our interest

On a free you would obviously take him but it feels like a lock for Real Madrid or City if he does leave Bayern.

I agree. Time to move on from these types of deal and go for the top young talents

1+1 contract. Job done :+1:
He'd ask for a signing on fee which would be at par to a transfer fee. In such circumstances we'll have to give him a long term contract because no one spends 40m for a player who will only be kept for 2 years

Apparently Arsenal are showing interest now. Him and Rice together would be interesting, though I suspect Rice would have to play a bit more defensively since Kimmich might not be able to cover as much ground as Partey can. He's a ready replacement for Jorginho, don't know if Rice does play deeper when playing next to him.

I'd imagine that they'd work similarly to his pairing with Goretzka. Neither one would be a pure holder (Rice seems to want to move away from that role), Rice would provide more physicality and attacking runs into the box & Kimmich would be setting the tempo.

He can go to those teams, he will want 250k a week for 4/5 years given his age. I am not even sure he has the hunger to succeed given how much he has won.

This is the type of signing we need to avoid, better if he says no and goes to one of the teams mentioned.

Yea though Bayern fans would say that partnership never worked because Kimmich struggles to cover ground defensively. I don't necessarily agree with that though, I think Goretzka's drop in physicality contributed to that partnership declining more than anything else. I personally liked the Kimmich-Goretzka partnership from 2019-22 and thought they were formidable.

Would be interesting how Kimmich handles the faster pace of the EPL when it comes to defending breaks. While Kimmich prefers a pure number 6 rule, I do think there's better balance with Pavlovic next to him, who stays back more than Goretzka and Rice do. Though that means you miss on an additional attacking threat in the box.

For all we know he might still sign a new deal with Bayern. I expect that to happen.

Why have Bayern withdrawn their offer then? Are they just trying to call his bluff because they don't think he really wants to go anywhere else?

Saying he now either has to extend on his existing terms or leave, before they were giving him better terms.

What could go wrong with signing a vet with nothing to prove in his wind down years. it is unfortunate that Utd do not have any recent experience with that type of transfer to be able to weigh up the pros and cons.

Have to admit I’ve got a feeling we’ll do the right thing and give him a wide berth, only to watch him go to city or Madrid and be class until he’s 39.

If we sign him then I give up.

He'll come here on a 4 year contract on obscene wages, be amazing for the first 8 months and exactly what we are missing then turn to into an absolute liability who we are unable to shift and a player who doesn't have the physical profile to compete anymore.

Absolutely quality player no doubt, but definitely one to avoid.

I dont think we even have to worry or think about Kimmich as a Manchester United player. I very much doubt he wants to join the financially troubled number 14 of the Premier League.

The only free agents we should be giving a serious look at are Angel Gomes and Jonathan David. Kimmich is not the profile of player we should be pursuing.
