That was me being sarcastic in response to a poster dissing Spurs. I wasn't comparing the clubs at all. My point was that Jose has managed clubs before that aren't the traditional 'mega' clubs like Madrid, etc.
Nice pivot.

The point still stands. He is being hypocritical but it does make sense now from his POV as he isn't at a sugar-daddy club and they won't be able to compete with the City's of this world. He must be the only manager in club football who negotiates player salaries if that's true.
its true for fecks sakeNice pivot.

To me it seems like getting in his excuses early.

I'm sure his endless whinging as to how Man Utd can not be considered a giant club because we don't have a player like Neymar, had nothing to do with giving Alexis Sanchez £400,000+ a week.He must be the only manager in club football who negotiates player salaries if that's true.
So almost half of them. I'm confident Jose will get our attack working eventually.
The same Burnley that beat Utd 2-0 at Old Trafford in January? Yeah id say we would need our players fit for that.Yeah against mighty Burnley and Norwich you needed all your players fit.
He had an open chequebook in his first stint at Chelsea. He literally could do whatever he wanted. If a player he signed for 60 million wasn't putting in world class performances in their very first 2 games for the club, no problem, just replace him with another £60 million player. FFP was brought in to stop guys like Mourinho from destroying the transfer market. Now he's the one crying from the sides now that he doesn't have an open chequebook anymore. He must be the only manager in club football who negotiates player salaries if that's true.
No im not making that inference at all. Ive already told you what i meant. You can choose to believe whatever you want. What is?
You appear to be implying that Mourinho managing a mid-tier team like Spurs is not abnormal because he already had stints at Porto and Inter. The inference there is quite clearly that you feel these are clubs of similar stature to your own. They aren’t. They’re miles ahead in terms of achievement.
The same Burnley that beat Utd 2-0 at Old Trafford in January? Yeah id say we would need our players fit for that.
Fair to say our injuries were pretty significant. No injuries now though so no more excuses. To get more shots on target?
Yeah might Norwich also won against City, most be tough game. Poor Jose had so many problems.

Id be interested to see our attacking stats since the start of the season with Poch and compare it with Jose. I genuinely have no idea what it is but i suspect there wouldn't be much difference. Not significant enough to have piss poor attacking game in most games.

Lets see how he does shall we? His last club he joined with no success for several years was Utd and he brought you a couple of trophies. So hopefully he does the same for us.He has managed mega clubs like United. He has managed second tier clubs like Chelsea. Now he manages Spurs, which is largely irrelevant in the football landscape. It’s an unreal climb down.
That said, his biggest failures were with the super powers which suggests to me that he may be more comfortable at a less rarefied level.
Did you see our lineup against West Ham last season? If that's not sabotaging to feed his ego, then I don't know what is.You think his ego would let him fail to get into Europe with Spurs then?
Here I supplement with another set of data - points and expected points. As you can see, in the more successful seasons Mourinho had (14/15, 17/18, and arguably this season), his team always got significantly more points than expected. When his tactic didn't work and he got a similar point as expected, it was already bad enough to get him sacked (18/19). His negative playstyle is just simply unfavorable for him in these stats. Refer to the "Tiki Taka vs Counter Attack" section to this thread if you are interested.
Season (League position) PTS xPTS Difference 14/15 (1) 87 75.32 -11.68 15/16 after 16 games (16) 15 22.88 +7.88 16/17 (6) 69 70.89 +1.89 17/18 (2) 81 62.33 -18.67 18/19 after 17 games (6) 26 23.92 -2.08 19/20 recent 24 games (4) 41 32.37 -8.63
This season's team is the only valid comparison if we are to compare the two. The team was dreadful since start of this season and it has improved under Jose. Lets look at these stats under poch this year and compare. What about all of Poch’s previous seasons? Yes, he had gone stale and your players downed tools, necessitating a change in manager, but you selected an absolute dinosaur to take the reins. Stylistically, there were far better choices. Now you have to make the most of it.
Lets see how he does shall we? His last club he joined with no success for several years was Utd and he brought you a couple if trophies. So hopefully he does the same for us.
Let's see what happens. If he wins us a trophy i won't give a toss what he does.He spent hundreds of millions to win second tier trophies. Winning the Europa League and League Cup in exchange for a toxic club culture and a dross filled squad that takes years to repair is really not worth it. Even when you are winning, the football is putrid, so I don’t see much hope for sustained success.
Let’s be honest, City and Liverpool are dead certs for the top four, United are the real deal, Chelsea are tooling up and even Wolves are a better side than Tottenham. Arsenal are of a similar level to you. You will hover around 5th to 8th for the foreseeable future in my opinion.
Not really, we just won the FA cup and missed top 4 on goal difference before he joined. One would have expected us to improve from that point but we just didn't.Lets see how he does shall we? If you want to use historical data then let's compare Jose's Chelsea to Pochs Spurs, or his Inter, or his Madrid. Do you see the point im making?
He got you second place in the league. Id say that's a significant improvement on not making top 4Not really, we just won the FA cup and missed top 4 on goal difference before he joined. One would have expected us to improve from that point but we just didn't.

He has definitely done a lot of work in our defensive shape and play. Its obvious he is coaching them effectively. Still a lot of work to do though.I just don’t think you should equate a run of good results with an actual improvement. I saw the same thing with Mourinho at United where we would get a bit of momentum through a sequence of promising wins and draws, but it was just papering over the cracks. I look at Spurs and do not see a team that appears to be particularly well coached. You have glaring deficiencies but a manager who would rather apply quick fixes than put the hard yards in on the training ground.
If we win something, that in itself will bring our club forward greatly in terms of starting a winning culture and belief in the club which is currently lacking. Id give anything for us to start winning trophies. That’s fair enough, but kind of sums up the difference in approaches. He will unquestionably set your club’s development back but if he delivers a League Cup then happy days.

Injuries destroyed our season. That's not on Jose, that's on Levy for not adequately buying players we needed to ensure we coped without Kane or Son....finishing a record number of points behind the winner.
His other league finishes were average / below par.
There’s no way positively spinning this situation.
Mou has gone from serial winner to hoping to get into the Europa League.
He’s a PR genius, I will give him that, because at one stage you were in the box seat for CL qualification, and now you are miles off but sitting there thinking he’s done a good job.

You Utd fans are spoilt.
Our attack needs a lot if work. Totally agree with that. But you can't ignore the work he is doing making us much harder to score against.Defensive organisation is an area he is traditionally strong, although my point remains that you are due a rebuild in that area of the team. And I wouldn’t personally trust Jose to oversee it.
There is no consistent pattern of play in attack though. It’s just incoherent guff.

You have dismissed the europa league and league cup. Id give anything to win one of them. Id say you are very spoilt yeah.Spoilt? I’m literally saying I would rather not win things if it means my club’s long term health is harmed.
Him winning you the League Cup isn’t going to instil a culture, just like it didn’t in 2008.

Maybe he had the same problems with Utd then, doesn't make it wrong. Are you suggesting we didn't have critical injuries and they didn't impact on our season? Im amazed if you think we should be fine without our two best players (plus losing eriksen).People made exactly the same excuses when he was here.
Injuries, not backed in the transfer market, it’s the board’s fault.
