Jose Mourinho | Spurs manager

At every club he's been at since 2002, Mourinho has won trophies. Will he win one at Spurs?

there was an article on the BBC yesterday about how he had got his mojo back. Didn’t read it, just saw the headline.

thing with Jose, you know it won’t take too much to break him these days. He will implode, it’s just a question of when - everyone knows this except some Spurs fans.

Better off not reading it. This is the first two paragraphs. Absolute nonsense.

The manner of Tottenham's late defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday was painful for Jose Mourinho.

However, while losing - and losing the leadership of the Premier League - was an undoubted blow, in another sense the whole match was a triumph for the Portuguese.

They could have won/drawn against Liverpool if Bergwin had taken his chances, and the loss to Leicester was like one of those days everything goes wrong for you (Aurier brain fart, Lo Celso injury after taking Ndombele off, own goal ..... )

Their form seems to have dropped in recent games but the y are doing quite well so far imo and are still in the running for the PL.

Think its too early to judge this season.
I think so too. Even though it is always fun to watch him lose any time of the season.

It actually shocked me that Jose trusted Aurier after last season dreadful performance. Either way, Leicester deserved their victory anyway even if you take away the Aurier's foul.

So a loss can truly be a win.

Another thing for Spurs fans to consider: Mourinho’s sides, at least for the past decade or so, tend to have a worse 2nd half of the season. Obviously we are not at the half way point yet, despite it being near Christmas, but if the form from the last 6 or so games become the norms for the remainder of the season, it’ll be a struggle for EL again, not CL, never mind the title.

Since Spurs were hailed as the title contenders, I hope they struggle a bit until we meet them again.

I thought in a way, Liverpool and Leicester losses were a bit weird, I could have seen both games being draws to be fair. But they lost it.
Once they go behind, they don't have many players to dictate the attack through passes, most of their "creative" players dribble or attack the space and expect someone to pass them the ball. So I think against this side, scoring early might be fatal. But, again, too early. I would wait MD 19 before talking about anything. Mid Jan should give us more color on what this Spurs side is really about this season.

hilarious. Mind you the Spurs fans on here acted like they hadn’t lost that match. Best chances etc

Well they were spot on. He got his mojo back, 1 win in last 5 league games means Jose is back to his normal level :D

That foul was shocking, but Aurier is their only Right Back who aggressively attacking. Their performance would be more dull and predictable without him.

Better CV sure, dunno what to make of OGS as a manager but Mourinho is 100% done. He still holds on to his outdated views and they are biting him in the ass.

That dumbass 4231 he loves so much. Did the same shit at Madrid, a defensive block of Alonso and Khedira. Benching Modric(!), his teams suffer for it because they can’t string 4 passes together in build up. So what happens is they play it wide and long resulting in loss of possesion. Even a tiny bit of pressure and his teams turn into Stoke not knowing what a ball is.

The way he sets up his team is weird, back when he was at United he had the same problem iirc. The second balls are usually lost to the opposition which invites more pressure. And it is that pressure his teams can’t handle. Football has changed and become much more dynamic than even 10 years ago when he won the CL with Inter. Mourinho hasn’t evolved his game and tries the same old crap. Even the simple stuff like trying to hold on to a 1-0 lead. That shit rarely works for him (last week against CP) and yet he keeps doing it. Hell he did it with Madrid as well, we’d get dominated by smaller teams and it was only due to the likes of Ronaldo and co we’d edge out those games but it wasn’t pretty nor worthy of a big club.

That ‘dumbass’ football took Real Madrid past the best team in history. It won Chelsea the league again for the first time in years after that. The ‘dinosaur’ still has the best achievements at United since 2013. He had Spurs leading the league vs Liverpool 100 minutes ago.

He may well implode again because of his personality issues, I’m pretty sure at some point he will. I’m still relieved he’s not at United anymore because of his style. He has weaknesses, and his tactics has weaknesses. Just like any manager. To me, Solskjær and him have shown comparable in-season achievements the last five years, but I think Solskjær’s work is a lot more sustainable. Caf experts will have us believe both are clueless, yet ‘the Solskjær table’ and ‘the Mourinho table’ put their results near the top at the English league in it’s economically most competitive state perhaps ever. They regularily get results against world class managers (who subsequently are termed ‘dumbass’, ‘clueless’, ‘past it’ or ‘naive’ for the next few weeks).

To the experts, his tactics may be dumbass.or pre cambrian. To the best managers in the world, his teams are still very hard to beat.

He suits second tier teams where he gets more leeway for setting up as he does

He's done better upto now than I thought he would. He really is reliant on Kane/son though.

Though Aurier's brain freeze was important, Jose is poor in this era when he has to chase games.

Having said that , Spurs wissed some genuine sitters.

Top post with fairness and nuance.

The disrespect Jose Mourinho gets is truly astounding.
Any can rightfully and gladly critique him but to constantly disparage what is arguably a better record than Pep, who is also a phenomenal Manager, is very poor

With Jose's style of football you have to get results, which fortunately he has been. Fans are not willing to sit through 6 defenders and the occasional foray forward as the home team. The Spurs fans are buying into it atm but as soon as the results dry up the Jose out crew will start ramping up.

Jose's football when the results aren't forthcoming is horrible for sure, but I'd say yesterday was a poor advert for Joseball even on its own terms. There's no way Jose was happy with the lack of workrate and the naivety in defensive areas, even if he was cool with surrendering possession the way they did. That for me was not typical Jose, it was well below par.

He had 2 bad "unexpected" results (draw vs Crystal Palace and defeat vs Leicester) and people are already trying to say he is a fraud and how bad he is.

Sure those are bad results but Spurs had a very rough run in the last month or so with mostly difficult teams (Wolves next and Chelsea and Liverpool will come soonish too again), if Spurs can get good results against the weaker teams when they play them all again in a row I can't wait to hear "it's just easy games" or "look at their lucky streak" :P

Sure, but I think some of those easy games have been tough for them too, so they are probably losing points. But you're right, they can still do it.

But we have years of this to judge him on

His team has dropped 17 points in the first 14 matches and have taken 1 of the last 9 points.

8 dropped points in a 3 match stretch in a league this tight makes is certainly alarming for a team like Spurs, who were being touted as title contenders 10 days ago.

As it stands, Solsjkaer - who has been excoriated and ridiculed by the media all season long - is ahead of Mourinho, with a game in hand. Despite that, Mourinho has has an easy ride so far as the bulk of the news coverage has been positive (case in point, the oleaginous piece written by the BBC trying to convince readers that Spurs' loss was a win for Mourinho) while Solskjaer continues to get ridiculed.

That isn't to say that Solskjaer has done a phenomenal job this season. It's just to highlight the difference in coverage of the two, despite Solskjaer doing an objectively better job with a 'poor United team' than Mourinho has done with what he himself described as a better team.

Simon Jordan spent all morning shitting on Ole this morning on Talksport.
Ole wins the league this year and there will be an epic amount of I told you so dished out.

Does he have a choice? The squad needs loads of work so hes going to have to keep some players he would like to replace onside.

Mainly down to the fact that he frequently acts like the mother of all thundercunts.

But I do agree that trying to downplay his genuinely impressive achievements over the years is silly - and petty.

Problem is, if, but and maybe's work both ways. What if Burnley, Brighton and WBA took their chances? What if Lloris didn't make a world class save from Mount?

Oh I don't know, I find that it helps to identify idiots very quickly.

Poor Jose is getting lot if unnecessary criticism. Also not sure why he gets so much abuse, one of the nicest person to manage in UK, always takes the responsibility for everything and never uses media to shit on players on his behalf.

Also never talks anything bad about his ex clubs either.

You really love the guy don't you

His result have been better than I expected, I'll give him that, but I don't think Jose ever realized he is working in the entertainment business. I don't care how many trophies he's won, his style of football/antifootball is hard to watch. Throw his toxic personality into the mix and try to convince yourselves that this will be a happy chapter in Spurs history....
No chance of that happening. Zero!

I know it’s a ‘in jest’ post, but think he’s actually a bit of a media darling at moment.

That's pretty obvious why Spurs were considered contenders for the title: they were in first :D
Losing away to the champion (in a tight game) is fine to anyone, the real bad results are the last 2.
Solskajer is doing a great job in the league obviously (1 month ago or so it wasn't this positive, the teams there were on top have been dropping points, look at Chelsea that was on par with Spurs) but also take into account that Man Utd was eliminated from the CL.
Mou does not have any media protection, there are a lot of media and pundits that hate him, just remember the feedback after Arsenal and Chelsea.

You really love the guy don't you

What's there not to love, brilliant manager who laid the foundations at Madrid for them to win 4 CLs in 5 years, laid foundations at Chelsea for them to win leagues, Europa leagues. He improved Rashford, Martial and McT was his gift.

Not to forget how he was always right. If only we had signed players like Willian with winners mentality, we would be flying.

Oh I don't know, I find that it helps to identify idiots very quickly.

Yeah, there is that.

Same thing with Pep, incidentally. If you think either of those two is a "fraud", you're probably an idiot. Possibly a WUM, but most likely just an idiot.

Anyone who leaves ManUtd becomes media darling instantly. It was hilarious to see Jose fans worried about him not getting enough credit if he wins league this season

You don't think Jose was a media darling before he was Man Utd manager? Yeah Utd made him huh

I don’t mind Jose’s shitc**tery, which provides endless fodder for banter, and no one can deny his trophy haul, but his tactics are hideous to watch.

If you told me that you could guarantee me a trophy but that I’d have to watch unwatchable football as the price for that trophy, I honestly wouldn’t take it. What’s the point of watching the unwatchable?
