Jose Mourinho sacked

You must be joking, all they care about is winning the CL....and they’ve sacked countless managers in their desperation to win it.
Winning CL and playing good football is not mutually exclusive. PSG have a brand and they won't have Neymar and MBappe defending deep and parking the bus. And Mou is hardly a guarantee of CL at this point. He can barely hold together his teams anymore. If Pogba annoyed him, Neymar will just push him over the edge in no time and whose side owners will take, I can give you multiple guesses but you only need one.

Nah it’s obvious PSG have a brand and image they really care for. Jose does not fit that at all.
What brand and image ...apart from once winning the UEFA cup back in the 90’s.

Just because they’re now one of the worlds richest clubs doesn’t give them an image. Win something big first, then image will come.

It was a matter of time, the Super League announcement with that meaning funds for Spurs just accelerated it.

All best despite everything.

Still feel sorry for his father, ever since that he looked like almost never truly enjoying football.

Sacked or walked? Clearly him and Levy have fundamentally disagreed on something and that’s that with Mourinho and his massive ego. The timing is too odd to sack him now ahead of a cup final with Mourinho’s good record in one off finals. Seemed a crazy signing at the time after his last debacle leaving United. He needs a sabbatical and then if he craves it again, take a lesser profile job in somewhere like Serie A or Ligue 1.

I don't believe you can walk from a job by receiving a compensation of 20 million pounds. You'd think that Levy would have learnt from Woodward's mistake (that cost United 19.6 million pounds) but this didn't seem to be the case.

Imho, this was always a disaster waiting to happen even though both parties knew exactly what they were getting at the start of their collaboration. Mourinho was desperately looking for a new job that would give him the opportunity to prove that he still has got it at the highest level and Levy was looking for an experienced manager who would take the baton from Pochettino and make this Spurs side push for the highest prizes. Unfortunately for both, Mourinho's days at the highest level seem far behind him and, as it proved, consecutive top-four finishes and a CL final was the ceiling for this Tottenham side. They should have rebuilt and they needed a new direction too and Mourinho wasn't the man for that. It was a rather costly mistake by Levy. And now they run the risk of losing Kane too.

If i'm allowed to speculate on the timing of the sacking, i'd wager that winning any silverware would have increased the amount of Mourinho's compensation payout by a few million pounds. And, truth be told, it had become rather obvious that he wouldn't stay at Spurs beyond the end of this season. And while i agree with you on him being quite competent in one-offs, i suspect that part of him must feel a bit relieved that the man who knocked him off his perch as the hottest name in the managerial world won't get the chance to put the final nail in the coffin of his career at the highest level.

they signed with the Jordan brand for a reason. It’s not just winning trophies. I’ve been to a couple of holiday destinations over the last year when restrictions were lifted and I saw more PSG shirts than any English teams and that was in England.

Their brand is growing even without European success. My 7 year old wants a PSG shirt for his birthday for example even though he’s never seen them play.

He'd be boring without it and certainly wouldn't be making a living off of his youtube channel.

I suppose if you were local to London you might be used to it. I cant cope with that.
I am from Dublin and I find it hard to listen to inner city Dubliners with their accent.

I really don't understand the logic here? Since when must one have history to try and establish a brand? The Qataris, like all these rich owners want prestige, they want an image that rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid. You just can't do that with trophies alone, you need to make earn the affection of the younger generations and attract the best players. Not to mention, that you might have been capable of winning the biggest trophies playing reactive football 10 years and definitely 20 years ago but now? It's not impossible, but when you look at the very best teams over the past 10 years and by best I don't mean reaching CL finals like Atlético or Juventus, I mean, consistently winning and challenging for the biggest trophies, it's really hard to think of one that plays Mourinho's brand football.

Mourinho the only manager standing up for football. Deserve our respect. Wish we still had him over Ole right now not for the football, but for standing up to the Glaziers.

Why fair play to him?

He's been sacked for being shite, nothing to do with him making any kind of courageous stand against this Super league bollocks

Something surely happened you don’t sack a manager days before a final but yeah looks like the earlier rumours of him taking a stand are false

If he was sacked for speaking up against the super league than I retract my statement about him being a cnut. Very strange timing. Jose can get a result against anyone in a one off game & they have a cup final coming up.

Amazing time for that.

This could be related to the Super League, whether he's against or Spurs no longer giving a feck about CL qualification.

The casual sacking of Mourinho during a huge shitstorm is quite funny, gotta admit.

I was expecting after the final EFL Cup, this decision makes no sense to be made now. Jose was the one who made them to final so he deserves the opportunity to manage his team in the final EFL Cup. If you are going to sack him, should have been done a month ago.

Just finished ordering my "Errr..itage.. matters" t-shirt.

He wasn't sacked for going against this Super league. If he was so against this Super league (which I highly doubt), he could have resigned :D

Actually fitting he's sacked as this time as it ties in with some of the problems that so called big clubs have with the CL. Spurs sack him becasue they miss out on top 4. England has 6 clubs that now expect a spot and it's quite damaging if they don't get one. Liverpool after recent success at the top could very easily miss out on top 4.

I find it really interesting is that though José was a pundit for Sky for a period and made appearances at some other channels, you don't get the sense that his old "mates" hold back when criticising his work as a manager.

Typically in football, pundits shy away from criticising their mates, so I just wonder what he was like to work with as a co-pundit, never mind a coach

Amazing. Mourinho is our new god because he spoke up against the dystopian future that is the ESL. In the process he successfully deflected the real reason for the sacking i.e., his incompetence into an ideological position as well as earn 30m pounds without actually having to put up any work.

Beautiful man. Best voice for mankind since Gandhi.

So I woke up and the world didn't return back to normal. Instead it's just getting weirder..

There goes any hope Spurs had of winning the league cup final, yes Jose is well past his best but his record in finals is up their with the best.

Didn't think Levy would pull the trigger until it was certain spurs wouldn't finish in the top 4. That should be the end of any other English team giving him a management job.

You could very well be right that he fought against the Super League. Otherwise no point in sacking him before the Final. They could have sacked him after the Final.

Bit weird to sack your manager right before a cup game.
He thrives in those situations, so despite Spurs' form, they'd have had a better chance than their managerless state now.

Now I want to see him in full force against this Super League. Come on, Jose. Be on the right side for a change.

20m is the reported payout figure.
A regular person gets laid off and there is the dread of going to the dole office.

A top football manager gets laid off and there is a few million in his bank account by the time he gets home.

Elite football is a different planet.

Spurs fan after sacking Pochettino were positive that Jose would succeed and happy of the news of Pochettino sacking.

@balaks , @InLevyITrust , @otherspurs fan

You guys have any comment on this news?

The good news though is that the favorite is nagelsman or Rodgers. These managers are more like Pochettino, so maybe they will reach his height there.

I don't believe that he is sacked because of the new plans. mourinho and the club were in the last lane, criticising players in front of the camera, I think he lost the backing of the players - history repeating - and maybe that a key player asked for a transfer if he wouldn't leave. City is huge favorite and maybe that Levy thinks with a new manager that will sort out a special effect. Now they have a little bit more chance to win the cup because guardiola won't know what to expect of the tactics of the person in charge for that game.

Curious which fool - if there is anyone - will give the "grumpy one" a new chance. If I have to make a guess I think it will be Pinto da Costa if the clone of jose leaves Porto. That would probably the best choice for Jose if he wants keep on coaching.

Fair enough, I hadn’t known any of this.

But I would still think they need to win the CL to maintain it or it’s like all show and no substance.

I really do hope PSG win the CL this year.
